If you setup alerts you will get automated calls on loads that fit your criteria, its a nice feature to have so you can get a load lined up before you deliver
@truckingandfixing
@truckingandfixing 4 жыл бұрын
The load alerts are why I love Landstar, I usually have three searches setup at once and that is how I basically book all my loads. I personally usually the email alert option over the phone calls because I sleep during the day, but the calls are nice if you're driving and don't want to try to read an email.

@@johnnyboycrypto Yes, it has slowed down quite a bit here at Landstar, probably about the same as everywhere else. It's really a volume problem, I've seen the load count on the board go from 50k loads 7 weeks ago, to around 20k now. I have been getting decent rates using the load alerts, but you have about 45 seconds to call on good loads, or they are gone. I have also been staying out on the road longer than I normally do. I'm leaving out again Thursday, I will try to get another rate/load update video out around that time. Thanks for watching!

This is exactly what I was looking for. But do you see the market paying less on miles? I have an opportunity to bring my truck over but I have about 500K on a paccar and I’m not sure if it’ll need some engine work soon. Awesome video.
@truckingandfixing
@truckingandfixing 4 жыл бұрын
It's really hard to say if rates will go lower or come back up, I can see scenarios of both happening. With several states opening back up after April 30th, I would think that volume would pick up, we will just have to see if guys jump in and take any rate just to make a truck payment or something. Your Paccar MX engine should hold up pretty well if it has been serviced at recommend intervals, including the DPF. Between 500k and 750k miles you might be looking at things like an EGR Cooler, Turbo, etc., coming up for service or replacement. I clean my DPF once a year, and change out EGR coolers at 250k.

I'm thinking of signing on with landstar and live in northeast Florida /I need to make $12000 a month gross to the truck to cover all my expenses truck and personal you think its a good idea to sign on right now?
@truckingandfixing
@truckingandfixing 4 жыл бұрын
Hello, thanks for your questions. I believe $12k gross per month is certainly obtainable here at Landstar under normal conditions, if you work at it. After I deliver this load on Monday, I will be just under $30k gross since February 26th 2020, so that's roughly $15k per month, even during Covid 19. I have also been at home about a cumulative of two weeks during that time, but I'm out of Ohio also, and run pretty hard. Florida and South Georgia are pretty tough on rates, you might have to stay out a little longer to make up for that. Without the pandemic going on, I would say go for it, but if you are staying busy now, you might want to wait until things start picking up. On the other side, if you are not busy, it might be a good time to move, and be all ready on the load board and everything for when things start picking up. Several states are opening up soon, and I think freight will pick up shortly after, although I have stayed busy with my lanes. Please stay tuned to our channel, I try to provide an update on the situation every few days. Thanks!

I'm currently working for unigroup doing logistics/I do a lot of installs on specialty equipment like fitness machines and make multiple deliveries but since COVID And even before COVID we lost a lot of business does landstar have any of this type of freight? I have done very well financially with this thanks for your input
@truckingandfixing
@truckingandfixing 4 жыл бұрын
Landstar does have a lot of specialty freight. I have never done any installs, but I have done a lot of customer load/ unload assists, with as many as 15 stops across the country, which pay well. These include cabinets, furniture, hospital equipment, trade show moves, and concert tours. I did a few stops for the band "Muse" on their concert tour last year, sometimes you can get into concert tour or show for several months, and they basically pay by the day. Their are a lot of opportunities here, you just have to connect with the agents that have those accounts.

Im an agent for Landstar, $2000 on 400 miles... we do .35cpm this week and that will fluctuate with the gas prices week to week. So take .35 x 400= $140 subtract that from $2000 and you have $1860 as your linehaul which if you make .71 percent of that is $1,320. Now if you run flatbed and need to tarp or have to do driver assist we assign accessorial which go 100% to you. So if someone gives you $100 for unloading you keep all of that $100 same with tarping. I use accessorials a lot too, whether it's deadheading a driver or unfavorable appointment times. I really think that if you can do it, Landstar is the best place to work for as a driver.

I guess I have 2 questions. Can work 3-4 days a week if you want to? And are you able to take the truck home during your home time? I live in texas.
@truckingandfixing
@truckingandfixing 4 жыл бұрын
Hello, the great thing about Landstar is that you are the dispatcher, you can work whatever schedule you want as long as it fits your needs. The only things that you have to keep in mind is that they want you to notify them if your trailer is going to sit more than 10 days (company van), and you will still have costs building up weekly ( insurance, plates, eld, etc.) that will come out in full on your next available settlement. So yes, you could work 3 or 4 days a week as long as that would cover your income requirements. No one will call you here pressing you to get back on the road. As for taking the truck home, Landstar is a 100% owner operator company, so you have to buy or a lease a truck to work here, so you would be able to go wherever you want with the truck since it's yours. Finally, Texas is kind of a tough area if you are trying to stay close to home, there is a lot of competition down there and rates are low. I have a friend down there with landstar now, and he just did a run to California for better money. So in short, if you have high expenses, it will be hard to stay local and make ends meet in Texas and surrounding area. Hope that helps, thanks for watching.

Yes, you would be running under their liability and cargo insurance, and their authority as well, that is included in the 35% they take out (if your using a company van). Hi, my apologies for the late reply, just went back on the road last night. I would say you are definitely in a good position to make some money in the trucking business! If you don't have any attachments and don't mind running, you can really follow the good freight. I would suggest getting a reasonable truck, and maybe trying out Landstar or Mercer for a while, to get the feel of running your own schedule, learning the freight lanes, and running a business. If you like it, you might be a good candidate for getting your own authority down the road, because you could make those extra costs pay off in your position.

Road-Field-Home with Ryan & Sophia great! Thanks for the reply. I’m going to try to add another 10-20k onto my savings before I make the o/o jump. Still trying to gather all the right info to make the most informed decision I can make. Landstar though, I am thinking is the company I’m going to aim towards working for.

@@truckingandfixing yes this industry is cyclical, it will be up and you better prepare for when it goes to poo, you will have to drive on low margins and still survive until rates come up again. look at what freight is hot (now is amazon, home delivery type stuff, so box van and local/regional is paying, if I am not mistaken)

And I don't like the nickel and diamond every week for your tags and stuff ect...... I would rather take a couple of 1000 and pay what I have to pay up front in that way. The rest of it is profit in my pocket.

How much is usually the FSC on the loads, is it actually enough to run the load

20 - 40 cents per mile, it varies every week. It is just a supplement, it won’t cover your fuel.
