good advice. I've been in art school for 5 years and the single most destructive thinking is, "I'm not where I should be". I've learned to accept that negative alter ego and ignore it.

Oh yeah, that thought can really mess you up if you believe it. For me, thinking about where you "should" be never brings anything positive. It's all about choosing where you want to be and doing things to bridge the gap. It usually takes longer than we expect because there's always so much more to learn than we tend to think

The problem is that I’m not making any progress. And in actual fact, my work is- from first piece to present, over a year- is significantly worse. Those who say “keep trying, it will improve” are not always correct. Just a fact.

I'm sorry you're struggling with improving your work but in my experience this usually comes down to not understanding the learning process properly or practicing the wrong things. If you don't practice correctly, you won't improve much. So learning how to practice effectively becomes one of the problems you solve along the way
