Thank you for this inspirational video. I am a french "polyglot" even though I don't like referring to myself as one, in the sense that I can speak French, English, Italian, spanish (C1), Portuguese(B2) an japanese(B1). My wife is Chinese, so as our kids are growing up bilinguals, I decided to start Chinese 1 and a half years ago. And it's useless to say that I am really struggling. Not with the hanzis, but with the language as a whole. According to my wife, I am not that bad but I've recently started feeling disappointment and frustration toward my ability as a language learner. And then, suddenly, and thanks to the mysteries of the algorithm of KZbin, I found this video. Once again, thank you for this short but encouraging piece of advice ❤

In your experience is 2,000+ hours accurate for reaching a high level? I haven’t committed to moving beyond “survival Mandarin,” partly cuz I feel that (for me) those thousands of hours might be better invested elsewhere

@@darrentaiwan I think that it would depend on how efficiently the person studied, how often they practiced each day, etc. But I think that two thousand hours of focused study and practice would definitely help you reach a very high level, especially since you do live in Taiwan! It is a lot of time, though, I can’t deny it!
