I appreciate your videos. I've been growing my locs for 10 years and six months. I stopped twisting four years ago and my locs have been. The healthiest and grown alot. I don't know if I'm a real freeformer because I separate them by hand but the new growth locs up just fine on its own. Good tips you have on finding a balance in washing them. Congratulations on reaching 8 years. Peace

Thanks! Congrats on 10 years and 6 months, that's a vet for ya! Don't get caught up in the titles. You're a freeformer if you consider yourself a freeformer. The important thing is that your locs are healthy. Hopefully, I'll get to your level. Thanks for the congrats! Peace :)

Great tips and they are always helpful. I am approaching three years with locs in October 🎉. I agree that having locs is a journey and not a hairstyle. I get so many unsolicited suggestions on how to manage my hair. Also people tell me to let them know when I am ready and they will recommend a loctician (the nerve 😅). Well, I follow many of the tips that you suggested. Always glad to see your content!

It's amazing because at the start of my loc journey I was all over the place. now I'm almost 2 years in, doing less has become best. My retwist are now going longer in between and when I do get it done. if I feel tension I will loosen it because the health of it is what's important not the sharpness of how it looks. Like always such a great video

I been getting sores in my scalp for years, sometimes the lumps will start bleeding, i been loc'd for 8 years and according to my dermatologist i have cellulitis, i don't retwist or style that much and i use coconut oil and other oils but the problem remains. Is it true locs isn't for everyone because of issues like this?
@AtreyuLocs2 жыл бұрын
I suppose this could be one reason why locs aren't for someone but everyone is different. If you've had your locs for 8 years, then it doesn't sound like it's true for you. When I make that statement, I say it because not everyone can handle the loc journey, from the look of locs to the maintenance however infrequent.
@Keenan-X2 жыл бұрын
@@AtreyuLocs yes. I was wondering if that's something you has dealt with, i know you dealt with scalp stuff before in your previous videos, i know other lockers that had the same issue but can't solve it either, but i wish to keep my locs lol

Fortunately, no. The extent of my scalp issues is Seborrheic Dermatitis, which is quite the beast too.

Tnk you for the tips, I have been loved for 7 years now, but my challenge now is my scalp is scaling and strands of my hair drops everywhere. I hope you understand. I don't use products on my hair from the beginning, now I have stopped using shampoo, I use just water to see if I would achieve any changes, though the itching has stopped, the hair fall has reduced, but am still very worried about it. The scaling is still there, am contemplating on cutting my hair.
@AtreyuLocs2 жыл бұрын
You're most welcome! Congrats on 7 years! Maybe you should see a dermatologist about the scaling. They might be able to figure out the cause. Watch the stress too; it can have negative effects on the hair. Good luck!

I’m coming from your video where you researched flaxseed gel. I’ve been using it for my retwists (five months loc’ed in November 🥳). It got me thinking about how it may be impacting my hair. It doesn’t smell weird, there’s been no strange smells, or flaking of any kind. Idk, I guess I’m just worried now, and would like to know if your thoughts have changed

I still don’t use it for the same reasons that I mentioned in the video. But I f it’s working for you, then don’t stress over it 🙂

I definitely wanna be a semi free former my hair grows away from locs going on year two but doing less maintenance in between I’m at 4 months in between maintenance but slowly pushing for 6. Love your videos.

Congrats on 2 years and on that semi freeform journey! You really got to love it. I like how you're gradually pushing yourself to more time between maintenance. That's the way to do it, for sure. And thanks so much for watching my videos. I'm glad you're enjoying the content :)

right now i’m a couple days a way from 4 months with no retwist but after doing research on something i’m worried about hair loss. i do crochet needle maintenance rather than retwist and the last time i got it done my loctition added 4c hair to add a more course texture without my permission (i have 4a hair). i’m worried that the hair that’s in my locs might be too heavy for my hair in the future or just might bring some sort of damage and i’m not sure what to do, do u have any advice?
@AtreyuLocs2 жыл бұрын
Wow, I can't believe they did that without your permission. I'm sorry to hear that. Your locs will probably be okay as long as too much hair hasn't been added. Pay attention to how your locs feel at the roots of those locs with the added hair. Are they noticeably heavier? If not, you're probably okay. I'll make a video addressing this question. Either way, don't stress over it!
@-Akuji.2 жыл бұрын
@@AtreyuLocs they aren’t extremely heavy but i notice when i wash they’re heavier than they most likely should be and leaning my head over feels like someone is giving a slight tug to my hair. I have a high top set of locs that go down to the bottom of my nose plus im on month 4 with no retwist, so maybe that’s just because of my length. she added a handful or 2 apparently, and it was more or so wrapped around my loc for texture purposes rather than added to the end for length. Do you think she added too much or would you say that it’s not a detrimental amount.

I probably get my hair parted and retwisted professionally once a year I'm definitely a semi free former because I only leave my style in for about a month after I get them done
@AtreyuLocs2 жыл бұрын
That's so awesome! I really like that approach too. You can let a professional re-establish those parts once a year, while the rest of the time you're living that semi freeform lifestyle. That's what's up!

@@AtreyuLocs yep. And when I want to look decent I can do a 2 strand twist myself in about an hour and throw a hat on.
