Great video! Somewhat surprised you didn’t show isla pasión which I really loved or some of the beautiful sunsets. Gonna throw in my two cents since I’ve been to holbox 4 times already. Avoid going September, rainy season, bring mosquito repellent, they are brutal here. June/ July:extreme heat. April/May: ideal. Bring water shoes or sandals, it rains, it floods. If you have extra cash, take a tour to Cabo Catoche, trust me, new paradise found on isla Holbox. Skip Yalahau, isla pájaros tour. Holbox is getting touristy, so try not to tell anyone lol.

@@TobyNomad right after the cenote they should have taken you to a smaller island that has like a tower, it has a huge sand bar too! Not to be confused with isla pájaros or bird island.

It’s important to note that walking on the side streets to get from point A to B is not always accessible due to the water. But you can ALWAYS walk along the beach and then cut into the block where you need to go. For instance, from your hotel, you didn’t walk to Punto Cocos because of the water puddles, BUT you could have simply walked to the beach and then walked along the beach to get to Punta Cocos. You could have also rented a bike and gone through the puddles, riding along the outer edges. When we were there, the seaweed was not as bad. Hotel Nomade and CasaSandra are great beach clubs which allow you to spend money on food and drinks which go towards the beach chair/bed rentals. Walking to Punto Mosquito on the sand is possible during low tide and it does not take 2 hours there and another 2 hours back. Walking in the water is MAYBE 1 hour, definitely not 2 because we did it, and the water was consistently at our shins. Good video, but I do feel like it’s misleading and missing some important information for potential visitors.

Thanks for your tips! It’s helpful. The video isn’t misleading because it’s only one persons experience of what DID happen, but it does raise issues that many visitors might have. Nobody would know that you can use the beach to get to Punta Cocos, and I believe that also depends on the tide and you can get stuck there if you don’t time it right. And those aren’t “side streets”. Those are the MAIN STREETS haha. And there are not always outer edges depending on how big the puddles are, depending on the depth you can also get stuck on a bike in the puddles. I saw it happen. It all really just depends on condition that you get. So a lot depends on your weather. One person having great weather and a great time doesn’t mean that will be the same experience for anyone or that there are easy work-arounds in that case. One could easily argue that the videos showing nothing but a great time are equally misleading, but actually the right word is just “different experience, different conditions.”

I went for 2 weeks in March 2023 and loved every second of it! We only had 1 bad weather day - the rest were nothing but sunshine! Going back in 145 days, but who's counting?! LOL!!!

@@TobyNomad I stayed at Villas Tiburon. I paid approximately $140 USD per night for a room with a garden view. I am going again this March and I'll be staying there again, but this time in a standard room which is $99 USD per night. I absolutely loved the location, about a 15 min walk into town and it is quiet at night and has the absolute best beach IMO and the beach service from the hotel staff is incredible. The Alma Bar is on top of the hotel and there is a rooftop pool that you can enjoy drinks in and the view is spectacular!

Haha, apparently there truly are people who like to feel like they’re at a club on the beach :). I love just hearing the waves and the birds and feeling like I’m in nature. That’s what Holbox used to be known for. An off the grid vibe. There are TONS of party beaches in Mexico (Cancun, Tulum, Mamitas in PDC). Would be great if there was an option for both preferences, but sadly what’s happening is that all the quiet beautiful nature beach experiences eventually get taken over by the clubs because that’s where the money is made. If we don’t learn to appreciate nature sans techno, eventually there won’t be any 💁🏻‍♂️

It was the tour kiosk right there at the beach where the main street of the town goes to the beach and near the pier/dock.

I think you picked a bad time to go to Cancun/Holbox. I've been to the Yucatan in earky May & early Sept, it was hot & humid and rainy. BUT, I've been in early Jan and Loved it!

Yup, January more chances of Norte’s blowing in. Sorry to say since our first of 9 visits 2015-2022 the roads have deteriorated to the point many impassable. I’d say it’s already a tourist trap. Prices have increased 40-80% even from 2021-22. Thank you for the video.

Interesting comment. I would say it felt right on the cusp between gem and tourist trap :). You’re right about prices. Nothing “low key” about the prices here! Stay tuned cause I go to both a lagoon near Tulum and Bacalar next after I finish walking ALL the beaches of PDC :)

Having been to Holbox multiple times, your portrayal of it is inaccurate . No one can control the weather, but the comment you made walking by Mystique was ludicrous that it was a "hike" to the beach. I spent 7 days at Mystique and the hotel is literally on the beach. I'm sorry that your short travels only allow you a limited perspective on the places you visit. My recommendation is you spend an appropriate amount of time in a location before offering your uneducated opinion.
@TobyNomad
@TobyNomad 4 ай бұрын
@@Amanda-x9b7j interesting comment. Sorry you’re upset that you overpaid. So “hike” was obviously being funny, but what I wanted to make clear is that unlike what most people expect when booking a place “on the beach”, at Mystique, your room and also actual hotel are not directly on the beach. You have to cross a dirt road (which can be full of muddy potholes if it rains, which I does often), then walk through a bar/concession place for a bit, before you can even see the beach. I show exactly what I’m talking about in the video, so I doubt anyone was confused about my comment. It doesn’t take 7 days to see that although the mystique PROPERTY is on the beach, the hotel itself is not. In my opinion this isn’t a bad thing by the way. Building further back from the beach is better for the environment and the beach itself.
