I am a Dangerous Girl also. I LOVE Dancing the Dream and have read it frequently over the years. I’ve also turned to it during this difficult time. I have two of the first edition bought in the early ‘90’s, one of which is falling apart from being read so many times. I have this very sad image in my mind of this massive pyramid display of Dancing the Dream at the book store being sold for $2.99. At the time Michael’s name was being dragged and they were just trying to move these books. I’m now wishing I’d bought the whole lot. I was 12/13 and had no money so I was grateful to find it so inexpensive and bought myself 3 copies, one of which (Lord forgive me) I cut up to make an MJ collage which I hung on my bedroom wall. I love that you mentioned the poem Trust it’s one of my favourites. In 2010, as a tribute to Michael, I had the last line of that poem tattooed on my arm. “In the space where fear used to live love is allowed to grow”. I love my tattoo and it serves to this day as a reminder to try to choose love over fear. In this moment that seems to be the battle taking place. Thank you for your work MJ FanGirl. On 8/29/19, I found a first edition of this book in great shape in a used bookstore. It was cool that it was on MJ’s birthday and decided that I was going to get it. I went back the next morning with some old books that cut the price with store credit. I last saw this book when it came out in 1992 so it was rare not seeing it around and even libraries. I remember having to write poems like this in school for grades where some were published. I associate the Dangerous era with my time in college.

Me and my gal are at a flea market that we have been to multiple weekends in a row yet this time my gal did some deep digging in this one sellers collection of stuff because it was just a huge mess pile and sure enough she goes look what I found is this book anything worth buying???? My eyes instantly shot so big and wide because I knew this books whole history yet never in a million years thought I would ever find it or have it in my possession and it was being sold for $12 my gal talked him down to $9 But the real reason for my comment is we bought this the day after Christmas 2021 and when we got it home it read printed July 1992 1st edition yet it gets way deeper because upon further inspection when I removed the book cover sleeve there was a hand written message that was hidden behind the book cover and it reads as follows ""To Justin from grandma L 12/25/92"' Now sure my name isn't justin nor did i have a grandma with a name starting with the letter L yet to know it was originally bought to become someones christmas gift and that I was able to buy it 29 years later to the exact same day after Christmas as a Christmas gift to myself is just mind blowingly special and touching to me because I took it as MJ cosmically whispering to me that we are not alone he is still right here with us in spirit beyond all concept of space and time considering it was once purchased and given as a Christmas present in 1992 only to end up 29 years later to the exact date (just one day later) being sold once again as a Christmas present to another lifelong fan.
