If you frequently eat at fancy French restaurants, chances are that you've been to one with a Michelin Star! Michelin stars are like a symbol of outstanding cooking awarded to restaurants that have distinguished themselves in their art. For restaurants, getting a Michelin Star is by far a very painstaking process. Just imagine, as of November 2019, there were only about 2651 Michelin Stars restaurants in the whole world! When you compare this with the total number of restaurants across the globe, this shows how much of a rarity these stars are.

I found out that I will likely never eat at any starred restaurant even if I win the lottery. Seems to be a poor value for the cost and amount of food. Just a marketing gimmick but it probably helps keeps the quality higher at places that are great yet will probably never receive a star.

I found out that this is about elitism. Great food is served in so many places in the world, and those may not even know about a tyre company or a guidebook. Some great cooks may even be uneducated or illiterate. So here one should be honest and just stick to the label. Cannot call these restaurants world's best. Just like Oscar winning actors are simply Oscar winners: they are not "world's best actors."

Michillan inspectors are from 25 diff countries. They arent wll french lol.

Michelin are not yet trying/testing in all states/cities in the US, that can also be a reason for having less star-restaurants in the US.

It's pretty normal to me that America has less Michelin stars than a lot of european countries. Usa doesn't even grasp the quality of french, italiano or Spanish food. Not even close.
