Do’s 1. Keep your ends moisturized (7:18) 2. Use the correct products and don’t be afraid to switch up products (8:30) 3. Use oils to keep scalp “moisturized” to promote hair growth and avoid dandruff (10:13) 4. Install twist in a proper size, not too small like micros and not too big (11:49) 5. Stick to creams and butters for mini twists to retain moisture long term and make sure your hair is moisturized from the beginning (14:36) 6. Make sure your hair is moisturized (15:15) 7. Test the products mixed together on your hand prior to applying them to your hair (16:00) Don’ts 1. Don’t keep mini twists in for more than 2-3 weeks (17:08) 2. Don’t neglect re-moisturizing (do it at least 1-2 times within a 2 week period) (18:19) 3. If you tend to style your edges and use gel for them, avoid pushing that gel back into the twists at the front. This will cause product build up. Wipe away excess gel after doing edges (18:50) 4. Don’t try to “refresh” or re-twist your hair with gel (20:22) 5. Don’t wet your hair excessively while it is in mini twists and don’t shampoo while you have mini twists (20:55) 6. If you notice your hair gets matted easily with twists, start with stretched hair (23:40) 7. Don’t use gel! (24:39) 8. Don’t touch your hair everyday or try to retwist, unless you’re styling. Re-moisturizing everyday is not necessary. (26:43) 9. Don’t manipulate your twists (styling) without having some oil on your hands (27:54)

There’s some good info in between some of the time stamps but for the most part I almost didn’t watch this video because it was so long and repetitive. I appreciate your info but a huge point of feedback would be to try to be more concise please or at least post your notes in the description. I found myself forgetting some of the tips and having to rewind because of how much you were repeating yourself in between each tip.

Yeah, Im going to have to respectfully disagree with alot of this. I'm weary of any youtuber telling naturals there is a defnitive way to do anything because ALL our hair is so different! I do small twists because i have very low density and fine hair and if i do bigger i simply wont have very many on my head! Just one of your "medium size" twists will have already taken up a big section of my head and the bigger the twists the more comapcted and frizzy my very kinky hair becomes which evetually leads to breakage. On your hair my smaller twists mights be too micro but on my head its working well. So there is not a one size fits all. Dont get me wrong. A lot of good points made but many people watching this will be changing up things thinking they are doing something wrong when they arent necessarily. Some people need to leave their twists in longer than 2 weeks to avoid manipulation. Some people can safely wash their hair whilst in twists. Some people should not be oiling their scalp (some should!) The sooner we embrace that our journey is our own the sooner we can realise these videos are all just suggestions and not the letter of the natural hair law.

For many of these types of videos the viewer should take it with a grain of salt. Naturally we all know everyone’s hair is different, and I believe she stated that in the video, although she should’ve stated that after each do’s and don’t since some people take what she is saying as a blueprint. At the end of the day if something works for you it works for you and keep it pushin.

I also washed my small mini twists a few times while they were in, focusing on my scalp. I never had to retwist, but I did apply oil to my scalp and my twists as needed. Mini twists are my go-to protective style, and I use protective styles because I LOVE "playing" with my beautiful kinky-curly hair. Hi Crys, I just wanted to come back to this video and say a huge THANK YOU for all the tips you gave in this video. I have been using twists as a protective hairstyle on and off for the last couple of years and was never happy with how they looked because it would get rageddy looking after a couple of days because I was doing so much of the don'ts and not enough of the do's in mentioned in your video. After implementing your tips, I now have a drastically reduced amount of breakage, my twists are moisturised for a lot longer because I ensure I get a lot of moisture from my wash day as you said. I actually love wearing my hair in twists now, I'm able to style it in a variety of ways and not be embarrassed by how worn out they look, even after two weeks when it comes to taking my twists out they still look good! I have been using lockdown to educate myself more on my natural hair and have spent hours going through countless of KZbin videos, THIS by far, has been the most useful. Will be directing all my natural friends to your channel. Thank you soooooooo much again!

Lol girl it took me like 4-6 hours to twist my whole head this week. I haven't done mini twists for a whole 2 years. My hair is high density and long. Using my diy butter cream helps to keep my hair moisturized for a longer period of time. I also had to stop oiling my scalp because of the constant itching and my scalp would be dirty faster. I have high sebum production so it's not really necessary for me to oil my scalp. I like to refresh my scalp with rose water and gently massage my scalp.

I am the type to wet my twists every couple of days-that’s how I transitioned. In light of that and what you said, I will say IF you’re going to wet your hair you CANNOT wear them for longer than 2 weeks. Between shrinkage and shedding you WILL loc. Also I use teas and aloe when I moisturize, so I don’t experience as much shedding as opposed to using water and oil.

I agree with a lot of your points except two. I keep my hair twisted always and wash/retwist every 2 weeks. Currently, mine are a bit thicker than yours and is waist length. (1) Butters. I stopped using butters last year and now stick to creams and oils. Most butters sit on top of your hair and protect too well, which may prevent mid-week moisture from entering strands where it is most effective. (2) Gel...specifically Flaxseed. I've been using DIY Flaxseed (marshmallow, fenugreek) gel underneath my cream and oil. The definition and slight cast it creates keeps the frizz at bay, gives a great shine, gives my ends a nice defined curl.
@a_25024 жыл бұрын

SO... Dandruff is actually caused by a yeast like fungus (malassezia) that feeds on oils on the scalp, (everybody has some sort of fungus on the scalp btw) but putting more oil on the scalp for people who does have this issue can do more harm, and the dandruff (which is usually bigger flakes) form because of the overproduction of oils.. I know from experience and research.. now DRY scalp is a WHOLE other ball game, people with dry scalp just need more moisture and is they are not getting that moisture then their hair will flake up (usually really small flakes) but its not called dandruff, its called a dry scalp (like when your skin peels if its not moisturized).

I think gels r changing. Don’t put no wetline or eco style or dont shrink on ur hair. But there r braiding and twisting gels/greases. I use shine and jam and they help prevent frizz becuz my type of hair gets frizzy when moisturized and gel holds the twist stretched and helps with shine too cuz I have dull* hair

New sub here! You won me over when you said "don't shampoo hair with twist...take twist down..." I saw a KZbinr do this, I tried it and had product of shampoo and conditioner riding my strands when I took twist out...my hair wasn't clean😢

I have the Camille rose whipped butter gel, but that’s basically a cream that only comes out when I don’t want to put too much water in my hair.

Sis I feel you on every level, but size of the twist varies because everyone has different density, fine and thin hair will typically be smaller and I speak on this because I have low density and fine hair. Ijs, great video though.

Going into my 2nd week at a new job that was very physical, I def started washing my hair with shampoo to get all that sweat out. I felt dirty all over lol. I moisturized, but when it came to that 2nd week mark, I def felt like it was matting on certain twists.

Love this. Thank you for this video. You are so right. I leave my twist in for a week to two weeks depending on how it looks. Yes!!!!!!!!!! I do switch up my products when I feel the products isn't giving me moisture. Love and Light.

Adding oil to your scalp is also beneficial if you massage it in to stimulate growth hence the oil should have some essential oils to help this process. Hth...😁👍🏾
