Kazakhstan has Chinese restaurants. In Chinese culture, it's generally considered inadvisable to speak while eating. So there are no cultural needs to eat out loud. A lot of street side restaurants has limited seating. So people usually eat quickly and leave. Nobody would care about manners and noise, just like the slurping ramen in Japan. The development of tea cultivation and processing methods began in China. Tea in Sri Lanka began over 200 years ago. The first tea plant was brought to Ceylon came from China and was planted in the Royal Botanical Gardens for non commercial purposes. Thus Sri Lanka tea is called Ceylon tea.

Tea cultivation actually goes back to the border area of southwestern China, northern Myanmar, and eastern India with indigenous peoples there such as the Jingpo. They traditionally drank it medicinally.
@TAL1423 ай бұрын
@@hexkobold9814 Tea plants always existed. But the actual tea culture for drinking was developed by China. It began 5000 years ago.
@hexkobold98143 ай бұрын
@@TAL142 Not true. As I said, indigenous people of that border region were drinking it long before the Han Chinese were. That's why the languages in that region (including Burmese) have their own words for tea that aren't derived from Chinese.
@TAL1423 ай бұрын
@@hexkobold9814 Drinking tea for medicinal purposes is quite different as cultivating drinkable tea people can enjoy. Not every medicinal plants can be used in tea drinking. Cultivating different tea need trial and errors. Chinese not only learned how to cultivate different tea but also process them. Some tea leaves were roasted and then crumbled. Some were pan fried, rolled and dried. some allowed to partially ferment before pan frying such as oolong tea. And there are also yellow tea which has a different process. It is not just cultivating the right plants but also how you process the tea. Black tea like Ceylon tea is fully oxidized tea. It is a process of cultivating, process and storing the tea that make the tea. Tea plants were not most of these countries major crops until the British invaded and make them grow the tea technique they stole from China for their trades. The tea plant, or Camellia sinensis has two varieties - sinensis (from China) and assamica (from Assam). In 1848, the British East India Company sent Robert Fortune on a trip to China's interior to steal the secrets of tea horticulture and manufacturing. The Assam Camellia sinensis was better adapted to Sri Lanka. That was what British eventually used to grow their Ceylon black tea.

Eating loud is something that I don't comprehend. I am Singaporean Chinese, we were told to eat quietly since young as I come from a very traditional Chinese family. So, it is kinda surprise for me that slurping your noodle loudly is a norm in China.

Singapore was colonized by UK, and try and follow a lot of western behaviour and in fact sometimes think western behaviour is superior or the “ right way” to do it. I lived in Singapore for 3 years as an expat and Singaporeans actually look up to westerners, didn’t really understand why!!!

Yeah, Chinese eating culture is different from the West, but similar to many places in Asia like Japan, where people are making big noises when eating noodles, and in VN people are always cheers with very loud noise when in group gathering(1-2-3..zo/cheeers), and Filipino people too, because eating with friends and relative should be happy as a party…thats different form European culture..they eat very quietly not much talking, just like someone has died
