14:17 for the ADHD MFs among you. I was also saying that the APNVG looks slightly auburn, I meant to say olive. The housing gives it a slight pale greenish-blue hue vs the solid blue hue of the DTNVS. That is from the lenses on the housing and not the intensifier tubes themselves. It seems to allow for a more detailed image although that is also likely a culmination of all the high quality specs combined.

You get a headache with your DTNVS precisely because you don't have your diopters adjusted correctly. Having 20:20 vision doesn't mean set it to "0" and you're good...
@polloi8410 күн бұрын
After performing a 'coarse' focus with the objective lens, "Turn the diopter focus adjustment (inner ring) counterclockwise (toward “+” diopter) until the image is blurred. Pause for one to two seconds to allow the accommodative eye muscles to relax, then turn the diopter adjustment clockwise until the image just comes into sharp focus - STOP. If one continues clockwise rotation of the diopter focus ring past the initial point of sharp focus, a range will be seen where the image still maintains clarity. Rotating the diopter adjustment beyond this point, forces the eye muscles to actively work to keep the image focused." FWIW -0.5 to -2 is the most common range of diopter settings for 20:20 vision. The PVS-31 and GPNVG both use fixed diopters set at -0.5, so you could be lazy and just set your DTNVS to that and be happy also...

interesting, yes i have 20/10 vision and ive found it pretty annoying to focus those to a comfortable setting. solid info I havent heard before though, ill try that out
@polloi8410 күн бұрын
@@maximusjoseppi5904 the quoted info is from page 41 of CNATRA P-431 (Rev. 09-21) - describing procedures for aircrew to adjust their ANVIS devices. Google will bring up the pdf. FWIW the Army does a terrible job of teaching Infantry the proper diopter setting procedure and I never learned until I bought my own devices. Many in the mil have a mistaken belief that some people "just naturally tend to get a headache" after hours under NVG. Not true! Operator error.

I own a pair of these, I’m a contractor that can only do logging in sketchy parts of the world in Africa, but getting lumber from some of the most finest wood you can land 20K for one log. Africa you have predators like lions, snakes, then you have the savages that want to rob you, and lastly you have to cut the lumber in darkness to avoid all of that. But these have been great. You need to see where logs are landing!

@ you ever hear of African Blackwood? You couldn’t afford a chair made out of it. I pay city officials to harvest them, locals know if you can afford to pay locals, you must be rich. We’ve lost loggers here to kidnapping and ransoms. One was skinned and burned when family refused to pay.

I have heard that many people who run quads also keep duals handy due to the weight difference. Like despite having quads, they often prefer to run duals because something like DTNVS should weigh in at 17.9 oz while GPNVG 18's come in at 28.1 oz. You don't seem to prefer the duals whatsoever, so I'm curious... do you notice the weight difference at all? How long is the longest you've worn APNVGS? Have you ever tried pano bridged 14s? Neat vid!
@maximusjoseppi59044 күн бұрын
i mentioned this in the video already. the only reason to grab duals over quads is if youre wearing them all night for nights on end and theres low probability of anything interesting happening... but 100% of people would choose quads if you said "hey youre about to get into a conflict in an hour, which are you taking?" same reason why anyone would carry a micro 9mm over a full size combat pistol.... low likelihood of actually needing it and its easy to carry around.

i mentioned all of this in the video. its called the chimera and the dovetail on these is different, likely to avoid patent infringements. they are going to be making their own articulating bridge for this model. there's nothing less "legit" about these quads as they use the exact same intensifier tubes, the housing is simply not government priced.
