From his interviews it seems like he was mostly upset that his dad did not take care of his mom financially; thus why he was so upset from going from a middle-class life to being poor. But i remember it from the late 80s . he actually put up boards to protest against her music in the 80s saying she was not “black enough” and a sellout who was white washed. Michael faced similar criticism but whitney was actually booed at the soul train awards in 1989 for this. He started it. And he has never apologised.

I remember when Rev. Al was a teenager and he came on Soul Train and said that he wanted to be an activist for his people and that James Brown was his father figure. I also remember when Don Cornelius announced Teddy Brown’s death. The death was really difficult for James Brown.
