Our story starts in Cincinnati Ohio in the 1930s at a junkyard owned by William F. Rumpke. Rumpke operated a metal recovery and Coal delivery business. Barter was a very common form of payment during the Great Depression. So, it was no surprise that Rumpke received payment for his services in live “pigs”. Unfortunately, the pigs he got in payment created a new problem for him. They had to be taken care of. So, he sent his son William J. Rumpke in search of garbage to feed the pigs.
Hi, I’m Logan the 64th Gear Jammer Skeele and this is another adventure of Toy Talk. Like I promised at the end of my last video, this video is about another well-known garbage company and its founder.
Yes, it all started in the 1930s when barter was alive and well. Willian F. Rumpke traded service for some pigs. The pigs turned out to be a good trade because William J. Rumpke realized there was more garbage to collect than food for his fathers’ pigs. William J.’s observation led him to the c-suite. Today, William J. is currently President Emeritus and chairman of the board for Rumpke Waste & Recycling.
