In my experience, setbacks are hindsight with God in the middle. When we practice "time-out", trustingly waiting on Him for direction, setbacks can become comebacks. God may use setbacks to refine us as He chips away at undesirable aspects of our personality to reveal the masterpiece He created us to be. God doesn't love us for who we are but for who we can become in Christ, to His glory. He doesn't change us so He can love us, He loves us so He can change us.
