Fun fact: Also the state of Connecticut claims the first flight. It was made in 1901 by the German immigrant Gustav Whitehead. Later Orville Wright made a treaty with the Smithsonian that said that they have to say that the Wrights did the first flight. This treaty really exists. There also photos of Whiteheads plane. It’s likely that he did the first flight.
