At 1:12, that statement is not correct. The Saturn I and I-B vehicles that contained multiple clustered tanks in the first stage were not used or intended for lunar missions, as they could only put an Apollo Command and Service Modules into Low Earth Orbit and not into a lunar trajectory. The rocket needed to get Apollo to the moon was the gigantic Saturn V. The Saturn I and I-B launch vehicles were only used for sub-orbital and low Earth orbital testing of Apollo hardware, as well as for the first manned Apollo low Earth orbital test flight (Apollo 7), the missions to the Skylab Space Station, and for the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project, also all only in Low Earth Orbit. This video is seriously mislabeled, as its coverage of the Apollo 1 fire is quite limited and reveals no more "truth" about the Apollo 1 fire than is already commonly known.

This is the usual shoddy research I’ve sadly come to expect from KZbin videos

The Apollo capsule did not have an exploding hatch. It had three parts, and the inner portion opened inward. The pressure inside the capsule was 5 psi above normal atmospheric pressure and would have been difficult to open even without a fire inside. They just never thought of a fire inside of the capsule.

Its essentially just a basic info program intended for the layman, not those already in the know. Though the cave exploration segment I found fascinating.

If course nasa tried to blame gus just like his lost mercury capsule. Turns out when they finally recovered his mercury capsule years later ithat wasnt his fault either.

9:27 They didn’t need to know what went wrong. They already knew all the problems!!!😢 negligence.

That’s objectively wrong, they did not know the specific and what caused the fire. If that’s how you want situations like this treated, then why not just toss out the NTSB too? No need to investigate plane crashes. Throw it all away.

ROFL Was U asleep when this was said "as in a live countdown and launch the astronauts would Breathe pure oxygen at slightly above atmospheric pressure this early version of the capsule had an old style hatch that opened inwards it would be held in place by the internal pressure later manned missions would have a different outward opening hatch for hours the simulated countdown stopped and restarted but at 6 30 a spark triggered a flash fire in the pure oxygen environment it consumed the capsule killing the three astronauts in seconds"

Fake in what way? What information was incorrect? While they didn't go into any special detail, what they did say was pretty straightforward and common knowledge to only those who were already knowledgeable about spaceflight history. Its still more than schools usually teach on the subject.

The Apollo 1 fire happened on 01/27/67. Yet just over two years later, they landed Apollo 11 on the moon? Hogwash. They troubleshooted, redesigned, and fixed everything in just over 2 years? No. They gave up and it became a studio production.
