This verse refers to Christ overcoming death through his resurrection and finally, all who believe in Him will be resurrected from death to life (no more death again). Context is important. Now, to the issue of death, read Genesis 3:19, God pronounced death to mankind as a repercussion for disobedience. How do we explain this further 1 Cor 15:21 confirms that death came through Adam. This is due to the pronouncement from God to Mankind. Colossians 1:16 answers the last part of seeing everything good created by God. Logically, if all good things were created by God. Who created principalities and powers? Anyway, Colossians 1:16 answers this and please note the conclusion "...... for him"

God spoke, the devil spoke, Men spoke, thoughts of men were documented and so on. God inspired the WRITING of the old testament/scriptures/Genesis to Malachi - BUT NOT THE EVENTS THAT HAPPENED. So you can't pick up every single statement that was said in the old testament and apply it to your life.
