I bought a 2005 Rune new in 05. It was the, all chrome model with the pull back bars which I believe is like the one you have in the video. I believe I paid 24K for it because the dealer sat with it for over 6 months. The good? It was a real motorcycle as in, it rode beautifully and handled well for it's size and the power was great at any speed. The bad? Though it was always garaged, I had to constantly polish all the chrome or it would pit. I got a flat in the rear tire once, and the dealer dented the fender changing it. He had to order 3 fenders before he got one that wasn't worse than the one he dented. It took weeks. The worst part of owning a Rune was I couldn't park it anywhere without people touching it and wanting to sit on it and take pictures. It got to where the bike owned me. I sold it in 07 with only 4K miles on it. And yea, I still regret that.

Great video, Sean! The Rune was an interesting experiment from Honda. But what a gamble! It is so...out there. Definitely not my style or taste. And I wonder...just how many did Honda think they could sell? Strange. Okay, about the gloves... I'm 63, and I've ridden all my life...worn all kinds of moto gloves. I now ride with some tan work gloves that look exactly like Sean's except that they have a tightening strap that might or might not work. Yes, they might come off if I end up sliding down the road on my palms. But you know what? I'm not a professional road-racer. Some times I ride without any gloves at all! OH MY GOD! And since I don't always wear a full-face helmet, nor do I wear full leathers/boots all the time, if I ever go down that hard, my palms will probably be the least of my worries. Work gloves are way more comfortable than any motorcycle glove I've ever worn. They actually make me want to wear them. And the best gloves are the ones you actually wear. To each their own.

Mr. Solitude I just have a tough time believing they'd hold up in a high speed slide. Not because of the quality of leather but in the way it's stitched together. There are after market parts (exhuast, windshields, hard bags, seats), but none improve the look of the stock beauty. If anything, the look gaudy, especially the touring 2 up seat. The Honda VTX Neo Retro used the rear fender style, and that bike is my favorite VTX 1800 model.

Really fun and random video. Came across it because I sat on a new Triumph Rocket 3 a few days ago, really likes it and the idea of excess. So I started thinking about more accessible excess, maybe a late-model Honda Valkyrie, and then...hmm. Wonder if there are any Honda Runes out in the wild? And searching “Honda Rune for sale” brings up your video. I remember the industry astonishment, magazine cover stories/reviews, and buyer sticker shock when the Rune was new. Found a dealer who put one on the showroom floor, did my standard new bike walk around, saw one-ONE-in civilian hands about 8 years back at a Starbucks. Talked to the guy riding it and he was as dreamy-eyed goofy about his as you are about yours. BTW, saw a Fisker Karma in neighborhood traffic just a couple days ago. Truly beautiful machine. I’m headed back to Google to see how far away the 2 Honda Runes for sale are. If I’m lucky, they’ll be in Maine and Oregon...as far away from my Houston home as possible.

This bike was only built on 04 , Honda held 500 back and changed the ID plate to 05 , it's easy to identify this , the originals have stamped ID plates and the held back 500 have a scrolled plate and when I first bought mine the book from Honda at that time they admittedly only made 1700 to make it a actual one year build ! These are the best bikes on the road ......

If someone sat down and attempted to design the ugliest monstrocity of a motorcycle then something like the 'Rune' could very well emerge. It does not even possess the necessary basics - two seats (but possibly one could upgrade), windscreen / fairing, powerful lights. Its exhaust pipe looks like a rubbish shute ripped out of a high rise apartment block. The commentator spoke of its 'fender.' I don't see one and can only imagine that we shared the same vision, i.e. every truck driver attempting to run it over and put it out of its misery. I'm not anti-Honda and indeed own a Valkyrie Interstate.

I own one and can honestly say the only detractor is that the thing eats front tires. I've never gotten more than 3000 miles or of a front.

It was either the Rune or a VTX 1800 18K, but at $31K for the Rune I could not afford at the time but it's a beautiful bike.

Nice video. I recognized where you were once you jumped on 222. Great riding in that area. Do you go to First Sundays in Ephata?

I will have nothing to do with the Rune because it represents one half of the poorest decision Honda ever made to me. In 2003, Honda decided to discontinue the Standard, Tourer and Interstate versions of the Honda Valkyrie, one of the very best motorcycle models Honda ever made. I had a 1997 Honda Valkyrie Tourer when I lived in Hawaii. A year after they discontinued those Valkyrie models, they introduced the Valkyrie Rune. The uproar by my fellow Valkyrie owners was both huge and lasted a very long time. I will have nothing to do with the Rune because it was coupled to Honda's decision to discontinue the other Valkyrie models. Everyone else is free to enjoy it.

Mr. Solitude Not all true, the Valkyerie simply did not sell enough to justify them keep being made. It has a pretty big cult following. I think they were a little ahead of their time and people simply loved V-Twin old style cruisers. It's a beast!

Guilty. I was a member of that cult then. Our loyalty to the Valkyrie Standard, Tourer and Interstate was fiercely passionate. I will never forgive Honda for that decision.

Mr. Solitude I'm with you Bro. I have a 1999 Interstate and I still ride it like I stole it. 2 up, pulling a trailer, around town, or in the superslab...it really gets the job dine. To me, it's the epitome if a power cruiser. I really believe Honda discontinued the Valk because it is a 1500 Wing on steroids and threatened thier flagship. I'm mean, 6 carbs vs 2, advanced cam, and engine hanging out and not behind fairings etc... The Rune is an amazing production, engineering, and design muscle flex for Honda but it will always be a bit of a weird...but awesome novelty bike. It took the revolutionary fuel injected 1800 Goldwing to put the big tourer back on thier throne, IMHO.

That's actually a good investment! After 10 20 years the value of that bike will rise up.

The worst thing people do to this bike is that they buy one and don't ride it because of the mind set the lower the miles it has on it, the more money it will bring. Unless prepped correctly I personally would not give anyone a dime for one.

What is more fun to ride, this Honda Rune or a latter edition Harley V Rod muscle?

After watching your video on the other Rune, Jay Leno's video popped up. He reference your channel & video, he said Honda took a big loss on every Rune.

Fix your mirrors.. By the way, yes there are some part made/available like Mirrors, seats racks, saddle bags, but yea.. to do less to this bike is better. I love the fuel tank filler cap design too
