It's like baby steps watching Sena chase the other action camera companies. I appreciate the advances made with the EVO, but until they concur the image stabilization issue, they will be nothing more than a "dash cam" for me. Thank you Steve, for this video. You did a very nice job of showing examples of the three cameras. Much appreciated.

Hi Oregon Outback! Thank you for the kind comment. Glad you enjoyed the video. If you've seen any of my recent Moto Photo Mexico travel videos from my ride through Mexico and back, there's a distinct difference between the smooth clips from the Hero 7 and the Sena. Don't get me wrong, the quality from the new Sena 10c EVO is fantastic and matches the GoPro color and clarity quite nicely. But I agree, it sure would be nice if it had image stabilization. However, I totally understand it would probably be cost-prohibitive to include it since they already include so much extra that the GoPro can't do (bluetooth connection to listen to music, microphone to record audio and commentary, intercom to other riders, FM radio, etc.) But I totally agree, I would gladly pay more if they would offer a model with image stabilization. Until then, I'll keep producing content and loving the freedom and creativity the device gives me!

As a professional photographer, I’ve been particularly keen on the Sena 10c series of Bluetooth communicators for my helmet. The reason for this is because they are the only ones on the market that integrate a camera into their design! This not only allows me to get all the normal benefits of a helmet communication system while I’m out on my motorcycle (intercom communication with other riders, FM radio, Bluetooth connection to my GPS, Bluetooth integration of my phone for listening to music or making phone calls, etc.), but also to have a built-in action camera! Not only can I use the camera to capture photos of beautiful scenery, funny street signs, and general snapshots to remember my adventures…but it also allows me to record video and time-lapse sequences. The video is particularly useful for several reasons, especially because being a fully integrated unit, I can record narration and audio with that video. This makes moto-vlogging, or creating KZbin videos about my adventures really simple to do. But in addition to that, I use it as a dash-cam to protect myself in the event of an accident. Using a feature within the camera called video loop mode, it’s constantly recording the view in front of me, and the actions of the drivers around me. If I’m ever cut off on the highway, or have a distracted driver not see me and run me off the road, I’ll have video evidence of the incident. Previous generations of the Sena 10c series have been lagging behind current action camera technology from the big contenders like GoPro. The original 10c only recorded in 1080p. The 10c Pro (which I reviewed here last year kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZ-1eHeQnL93hpY), upgraded that to 1440p (2.7K). However, I’m excited to FINALLY have my hands on the new Sena 10c EVO, which has 2160p (4K) quality!

Chris, have you noticed that the gain (volume) of the intercom audio is much lower than your audio on the recordings? I was just reviewing some of my video from my test run/ride and my riding buddy's audio is very low, but it was loud in my headset during the ride. I know it can be corrected in post, but that would be a pain. Maybe I need to set the camera mic to the "Low" setting in the camera setup? Any ideas would be helpful. We start the TAT on June 8, 2023. Thaks dude! Love all your Vids!

Hi guys! Wow...your big trip is just around the corner! We have tried a number of settings to get the audio pretty close. It's not perfect all the time. Which is why we try to ALL record during times when we are chatting. That way, if we have to, we can cut to the other person's audio when they are speaking. But most of the time I get pretty clear audio from everyone coming into my headset. Unfortunately I'm out of town for work and don't have the helmet. So I can't look up our settings. I'll see if Jason can help. But I vaguely remember turning the in-camera mic lower, as you suggested?

Hey this is Jason. Yes riding and the volume in ear not being right is ver frustrating. Without knowing all the details and current settings I can recommend two things off the top. 1. make sure that the speakers are directly over your ears in the helmet. Misalignment can greatly reduce the volume 2. Play with your received settings AND your buddies SEND settings. It's prob a combo of the two. Thanks for the question.

Thanks for watching, Janez! I've been using my Sena 10c EVO for over a year now and I absolutely LOVE IT!!! I've recorded so many amazing adventures with it, which you can find on our KZbin channel. You might enjoy this video where we talk about the various cameras we use and how we record our crazy adventure films: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmnMhIKZaJ2il7M. :-) To answer your question, any Sena should be compatible. But if you're looking for an inexpensive unit with good features, I'd go with the Sena 10S, which you can get here: amzn.to/3wjEGci. Hi Elijah! Check out our latest video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/amSTn2h3jt59mpo. It's an example of how we often ride from sun-up to sun-down, using our Sena 10c EVO intercoms all day long, rolling video clips throughout the day, and never have a problem with battery power. We start the day off with a full charge. We usually make it to lunch with plenty of juice still left. Sometimes we charge the helmets up while we're at a restaurant eating, and they'll last the rest of the day. But usually, or if we're in a remote area and just stop to eat our packed lunch in the woods, we plug the headset into power after lunch before we continue riding. I personally plug mine into a cigarette lighter port on my handlebars, using the included cigarette lighter cable that comes with the 10c EVO. Jason usually plugs his into a small USB Battery pack that he keeps in his jacket pocket or in his tank bag. Steve plugs his into a USB port mounted on his handlebars. Either way, the 10c EVO can actually charge itself WHILE you're using it! This way, when we arrive at our campsite or motel for the night, the helmets are already fully charged. So we just turn them off and they are ready to go for the next morning. Piece of cake! If you decide to get one, please use our link to get the best deal out there...AND to support our channel at no cost to you. Amazon pays us a small commission when you use our link. Thanks and enjoy!

I have heard that the battery life is 2.5 hours filming at its best so my question is can it be charged whilst filming by using a battery pack? Thanks in advance and your videos are great btw.
@MotoPhotoAdventures
@MotoPhotoAdventures 4 жыл бұрын
Hi RJH! I'm glad you enjoyed the videos. To answer your question, YES! If you plug your 10c EVO in before you turn it on, it will charge while recording, and run off the auxiliary power all day. On my trip through Mexico, I frequently plugged it into a small power bank inside my jacket, or plugged it into the cigarette lighter adapter on my bike. I never had a problem with power. Plus, since it accepts up to 128GB cards, you can truly record a ton of footage. I'm a heavy user and had zero problems listening to music and podcast on all-day rides with the bluetooth from my mapping softward telling me where to turn, and reaching up to tap the record button any time something interesting came along. :-)

Can you give details regarding real battery life? Can the camera record constantly?
@MotoPhotoAdventures
@MotoPhotoAdventures 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Yoni! ABSOLUTELY!!! Listening to music or just using the intercom, it will last all day. The actual battery life if you are constantly recording lots of video is only a couple hours. However, you can plug the USB cable (provided) into the cigarette lighter on your bike (if you have one), or a USB port on your bike, or a USB battery brick in your tank bag, or a USB battery brick in your jacket pocket. When you do this, the 10c EVO runs off the external power first. So you can continue to record, listen to music, talk on the intercom, and listen to music on your phone all day long if you like! Here's an example of the EPIC all-day adventures we have: kzbin.info/www/bejne/enqTcqyFesxjf9U. What we usually do is ride all morning, recording a lot, but not all the time. Then we stop for lunch. After lunch when we get on the bikes, we plug the Sena's into power and ride all afternoon with it that way. Bu the time we arrive at our campsite, not only did we record all afternoon, but the internal battery we used up in the morning has been topped off. This way, the next morning we start off with full internal betteries on the Senas...and repeat the process. Works like a charm!

Thanks John! Battery life is a non-issue because you can plug it into the cigarette lighter on your bike, or a battery pack in your pocket, and it will continue to charge itself while simultaneously recording! Thanks for the kind comment, HarleyDayRider! I have to say, now that I've owned this unit for several months, and taken it on a 4500 mile trip around Mexico and back, my concerns about the charging port cover are greatly alleviated. I got caught in the rain several times and just continued to record and listen to music without any problems. Here's the worst day of rain from the trip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYCvaYOBj7CjgNE. Also if you watch other episodes, when it was dry out I would frequently hook up either a battery pack (which I keep in my inner jacket pocket), or the cigarette-lighter cable to the 10cEVO for all-day use. Sounds like you do something similar! :-) Anyway, I highly recommend this headset now that I've put it through the ringer.

The audio at minute 9 was recorded on the Sena 10c Pro. All the "riding audio" was recorded on either the 10c Pro or the 10c EVO, as is marked by the titles. At minute 9, for example, the title says "Recorded on Sena 10c Pro". This means I am recording both the audio and video on the 10c Pro to compare it to the 10c EVO. I also recorded some video using the GoPro Hero 7 to compare the video image quality. For example, at minute 9:21, it says "Recorded on GoPro Hero 7". But this is ONLY the video! I never use the GoPro to record audio during the riding sections of the video. I hope this helps! It's a great product and I highly recommend it!

I have been thinking whether I should get the 10C Evo or the Go Pro. Whilst the 10C Evo has the benefit of having a camera as well as comms unit, I am put off by the fact that it’s not a ‘clean’ video i.e the portion of helmet is still visible. I am assuming it probably depends on where we mount the unit but I doubt I would be able to mount to much towards the front of the helmet thereby compromising it’s stability.

@MotoPhotoAdventures 3 жыл бұрын
I agree with Jason. If having the side of the helmet is a problem for you, GoPro is the way to go. In fact I have a chin mount on my helmet as well as the 10c EVO on the side. You will occasionally see a "clean" shot from my helmet in many of our adventure videos because I move my GoPro around to many locations, including the chin mount on my helmet: kzbin.info/www/bejne/amSTn2h3jt59mpo. We feel the variety ads depth and interest to our videos. However, it's a major pain to get audio into a chin-mount GoPro. You either have to use the special audio adapter, or the Media Mod...both of which make the GoPro no longer water proof...and both of which are a pain to run the wires and all that. The other problem is, if you not only want to record YOUR voice, but also the voices of your friends on the intercom, you now have to add a Y-splitter and a second microphone to the setup. One microphone goes to inside your chin guard to record YOUR voice, the other has to get squeezed into your helmet near the speaker from your intercom so that it can record your FRIEND'S voice! Anyway, it certainly can be done. But as I explain in the video, this one simple unit takes ALL those headaches out of the equation...and it just works. Personally, I don't mind the helmet corner in the shot. But if it bothers you, Option 1 is to wire up a GoPro as described above, Option 2 is to record the 10c EVO in 4K and then do what's called a "push in", basically cropping out the corner of the helmet during your post-production. And Option 3 is to get both the 10c EVO and the GoPro, hit record on both, use the 10c EVO video as your "A-Roll" and your GoPro video as your "B-Roll". (Jason just showed me yesterday how software these days has gotten so good at automatically synchronizing multiple video clips based on the audio wave-form.) Once you have the audio synchronized, you can use the audio from the 10c EVO and the video from the GoPro. All options have their obstacles. It's up to you to figure out which works best for your style of recording! :-)

Hi Carlos! I listen to music all the time when I'm riding. So I'd say I love them! Of course the don't have the same base as a high-end Bose system. But they sound great, while not completely drowning out the traffic so that you can still hear an ambulance trying to pass, or someone beeping their horn. The quality of your helmet, as well as whether your bike has a windshield or not, may affect the volume of wind noise at high speeds of course. But my mid-priced HJC RPHA MAX is fantastic! If you're looking for an all-in-one unit, don't hesitate...you'll love it!

Totally agree! Fortunately I'm learning that "content is king". After a lot more experience telling stories on KZbin, I realize that as long as you're telling a compelling story with great content like this, kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2O2Xq2DZpuffdU, any defects or limitations in footage become negligible. Even my new GoPro Hero 8 doesn't have an FM radio, a wireless intercom system, etc. So each device has its strengths and weaknesses. I want bluetooth to listen to my phone and take calls, and a "dashcam" for my bike that's on my head so its looking where I am looking. For me, this is a perfect mash up and saves me a lot of money in the long run. If I want to actually record my rides someday I would buy a GoPro or something similar. Hi Chris, thanks for the unbiased reviews and well informed videography opinion communicated easily to camera cave trolls like myself. If I may I have two brief questions for you regarding the Evo. 1) can you stabilise the video after the fact in some form of after effects software? 2) Is it purely the lack of stabilisation or is it a depth of field issue with the lens on the Evo that makes the video seem less crisp with more artifacts than the GoPro. Thanks again from Perth, Western Australia.
@MotoPhotoAdventures
@MotoPhotoAdventures 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kirin! Glad you enjoyed it. And after a year of use, may I say my worries about the two rubber covers were completely unfounded. I've had zero problems with them. Anyway, in theory you can run stabilization software afterwards. But it's extremely limited in what it can do. Plus it takes a HUGE amount of computer power and resources to render the software-stabilized footage. At least that was the case in Adobe Premiere Pro. So we've decided not to bother. If you watch any of our travel videos (here's the latest release: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioHUXp-Fat6Zopo), you'll find as long as you're telling a great story you don't even notice that the video from the Sena isn't stabilized. So I say just go for it! Make your story a good one and don't worry about whether it's stabilized or not. In fact in some of the action sequences, the un-stabilized footage actually looks more "real" and "in-the-moment"! Note that only my helmet camera is the Sena 10c EVO. My other riding buddies have an original 10c and the intermediate 10c Pro. The quality of the 10c EVO is very much on par with my GoPro Hero 8, which you'll also see in several clips. Hi Luca! I power the 10c EVO all the time with USB. Sena was very smart in designing it so that it would charge itself while you're using it! Have you seen any of our adventure films like this one? kzbin.info/www/bejne/f56bfmCqh6-Lq7s. My friends and I all have a Sena 10c EVO. Sometimes we will ride 8, 10, or 12 hours in a single day! Usually we can ride all morning using the intercoms, listen to music, and recording video clips using just the device's internal battery. By lunch time it's getting low. So after lunch I plug it into the USP port on our bike (or into a small USB battery pack inside my jacket pocket). The rest of the afternoon we can continue recording video and chatting over intercom. By the time we reach our camp that night, the device is fully charged so we can start off in the morning again using just the internal battery. Works great!!!

Chris, thanks for the good review. Your comment about the charging port made me think I'll need to add some diy hydro isolation... Or a way to glue and unglue the cover easily enough. Some extended rubber glued to the cover and velcro on the side, perhaps? Will see when my unit arrives. Very useful. One thing I noticed is that the helmet you are using is a full-face one. Have you tried putting this on a flip-up version? I got a Neotec 2 helmet and I have used the screws-based mount from 10c, seems to kinda sit in there but I will have to sacrifice the option of having an integrated SRL2 comms. No biggie, considering 10c EVO has both comms and camera. But mildly annoying.

Did you manage to find a way to solve the charging cover issue? It is my main concern as I know from experience that these flaps dont last long. Disappointing to see how the new u it already has this lose. The 10c pro solution looked much better. What are your thoughts now that you have the unit in hand?

The other issue Ibsee with the new design is the small gap beside the lens angle adjustment knob. Doesnt it get full is bugs and dirt? If it does it seems impossible to clean. I doesnt seem like this is built for motorcycle travel.

Thank you for doing this as there is not many reviews on the 10C Evo. Question: If one just sticks to using "video tagging" (only saving footage when button is pressed) will that increase battery life? Normal life is two hours but will it increase if you are not saving the footage and the camera is still on and "ready"? I ask because there are maybe 10 minutes a day I'd like to save but like to know if camera battery will last doing it this way. thx in advance
@MotoPhotoAdventures
@MotoPhotoAdventures 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there Two_Wheeled_Adventure! I'm sure that would save a little bit on battery life. And I do occasionally ride with "video tagging" on. But honestly, the easiest thing to do is to plug the Sena 10c EVO into a USB port on your bike or a USB battery pack in your jacket pocket. If you plug the device into a power source like this BEFORE you turn it on, than it will continuously re-charge itself even while it's recording. When I'm on a long adventure like the one we're on now (kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2O2Xq2DZpuffdU), I wake up and ride the first half of the day without plugging in. The 10c EVO will easily last until lunch using the intercom, radio, and just recording high-light clips as you go. Once we stop for lunch, I plug it into the USB battery I keep on the inside of my jacket pocket and leave it plugged in throughout the afternoon. If my battery pack isn't charged, I'll just plug it into the USB port on my handlebars when we suit up after lunch. Either way, when we arrive at camp, I've been able to use the 10c ALL DAY, and it's fully charged when we arrive at camp. Next day I repeat the process. Works like a charm!

I had the older 10C and it could use 64GB SD card then, on Sena site they declare the evo accept SD card uoto 128GB as opposed what you mentioned in the Video 32 & 64 accordingly. A major issue with the 10C was battery life I had to ride with the charger connected which eventually broke the charge plug and ruined the unit all together. How's the battery on EVO? Last question is the Tagging mode I had on the 10C is it still there on the evo? it was a great feature enabling me to keep scenes otherwise I would have missed since while riding you are not always free to start recording on time Thanks

Hi Zapopper! I also had the original 10c, which I sold to get the 10c Pro, which I sold to get the 10c EVO. :-) The EVO is by far my favorite so far. The quality of the video is SO MUCH better than the others!!! You'll have to check the specs as far as which cards they take because they often change from when I first did this video, as they do updates on firmware. For example, I have a friend who uses the original 10c and he uses a 128GB card in it, which according to their specs won't work! I also sometimes use a 128GB in my EVO with no problem. The EVO is smaller in size than the 10c and 10c Pro. But they managed to keep the battery life approximately the same. I can use it all day for just music and communication. But recording video it only lasts several hours. However, I find I have no problem at all plugging it in to use the USB power off my bike's electrical, or a small USB Battery Pack inside my jacket pocket. I do this all the time and have never had a problem with damaging the charging port. The new port is in a different location. Maybe they made it stronger? As far as the Video Tagging mode...yes they kept this great feature!

Hi Steve! That's definitely a concern, as I mentioned in my review. In reality, I haven't found it to be too big an issue yet. I often carry a battery pack in my riding jacket to plug it into, and also plug it directly into the USB outlet on the bike. It works no problem, just like the 10c Pro did. But as I mentioned, I would have preferred it if they'd kept the port at the bottom.

Yes it does. It's called loop mode. I use it around town when I'm just running errands or in traffic...basically anytime I'm not on a trip recording my adventure. In loop mode, you start recording when you leave the house. The camera continuously records clips in short segments (5 minutes I think?). As the card fills up, it goes back and records the current footage over the oldest footage. If anything ever happens to you, you'll always have that evidence captured on video!

It has excellent stabilization, but my new GoPro Hero 8 doesn't have an FM radio, a wireless intercom system, etc. Even though the Sena doesn't have stabilization, it has other features I like very much. So each device has its strengths and weaknesses. Hopefully one of these two companies, or some new startup, will make a new device combining the best of both worlds for us! Thanks ! Received this from Sena Tech - May helps others looking at options: “With the Mesh Intercom feature on the 30K, you are able to communicate with a virtually limitless number of people in Public Mode and up to 16 people in Private Mode. The 30K also features the same Bluetooth Intercom feature as the 10C EVO and you are able to talk with up to 3 other people over the intercom. The 30K allows you to talk using the Mesh Intercom feature and listen to music at the same time because of its dual module Bluetooth architecture. The 10C EVO allows you to talk using the Bluetooth Intercom feature and listen to music at the same time but it is not enabled by default like it is with the 30K and you can only talk in a lower quality version of Bluetooth Intercom because the 10C EVO is limited by the single module Bluetooth architecture. “

Hi Bambi17ish! I'm so sorry you are having trouble with the app. Remember you should have WiFi and Bluetooth connected. When we can't connect, it's almost always because we forgot to turn WiFi on. But once we turn it on, we always connect no problem. My friends Jason, Steve, and I do lots of long trips. All three of us have Sena 10c EVO. Like any electronics, we occasionally have to re-start if connection is bad. But other than that, they always work great! You can watch the video we released yesterday to see how well they work with recording video AND audio from our intercoms as we chat while riding: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpnWammPf6uhpaM. I recommend downloading the instruction manual and trying one more time following step-by-step. If this doesn't work, perhaps you can return it to the shop, or send it back to Sena for an exchange? Perhaps it's defective? I know that sucks. But any man-made product has the possibility of being defective. Unfortunately I don't think there are any other apps that work with the Sena camera system except the Sena Camera app. Again, I'm sorry you're having trouble with yours. Since I've been using mine for several years with no troubles, I'm afraid I don't have any experience to draw upon to help you with your specific situation. I'm sorry I can't provide more, and wish you luck in getting it resolved.

I like the 10C Evo and am tempted to buy one but I can't come to terms with the fact that a significant part of the shot includes the helmet. I think that the next great development from Sena would be some sort of AI type feature which automatically removes the helmet form the recording - much the same way as a certain action camera removes the selfie stick from the shot. What do you think as a pro?

Hi Michael! I guess it's a personal preference thing. But I personally like that the helmet is in the shot. It provides perspective. I also mount a GoPro to my helmet's chin mount. But that's a totally different shot. So having the 10c EVO gives me multiple camera angles with totally different shots, which I like. However, if you don't like that the helmet is in the shot, you could easily record in 4K and then simply "bump in" the video during editing, essentially cropping the helmet out of the frame.

Hi Chris! It's not bad. If you're just listening to tunes and such, it'll last a full day of riding. If you're recording video, it'll do a couple hours. But the BRILLIANT part is, if you connect the 10c EVO to a power source, it will continuously charge WHILE recording!!! So on long trips like this adventure through Mexico kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWmkp2lrprGSo7s, I carry a small USB power bank in my inner jacket pocket and run a cable up to the headset. Good review. But yeah, what Sven said: the new Sena's video is herky-jerky compared to the newer GoPro in your examples. I know, I know, there are other features that riders will like. But in the end, effective stabilization is pretty wonderful. The jerks and shakes are magnified when you present the results on a large screen. If you watch your video on a smartphone, who cares? It's all about priorities, isn't it.

Thanks for the kind comment, Jim! I totally agree. Image stabilization should be next on their list. The video quality and color profile is now spot on! I was very pleased to see the improvements over the previous model. One nice thing is you can always add image stabilization in post-production. I'm planning on trying that on a future video to see how close I can get it to the GoPro. I wonder if adding stabilization would make the cost too high? Maybe they left it out to meet a certain price point? It's about the same price as a new model GoPro. The GoPro has stabilization. But the Sena has intercom, FM radio, bluetooth for music, gps directions, and more. It packs in a TON of features for the same price. So logically something has to give. But YES...I hope they find a way to add that in a future model...I'd have to upgrade AGAIN!!! :-)

@@MotoPhotoAdventures Yeah, it's a mystery why they left out digital image stabilization. The GoPro and DJI offerings have perfected it. I've had two video cameras that predate successful image stabilization. The video is shaky at best, and post processing often does very unexpected things. I shot one video on Deal's Gap about 3 years ago, and used a post process shake stabilizer. So, the horizon and trees are sort of stable, but the road centerline jumps all over the place. Makes the *road look drunk.* I have a 120 inch projector and screen at home. You should *see* what it can do to your sea sickness propensity with shaky video. *Urp.*

Hi Guys! Thanks for subbing to our channel! I just checked out your channel...LOVE IT!!! You got a new sub from me! :-) The crispness of your videos is impressive...and the lively banter between you is so much fun. To answer your question, the Sena 10c EVO does have a setting where you can tell it to record intercom audio in HD. However, I think the week link is the fact that the other helmet's feed is arriving over wireless transmission. So it's never going to sound as good as the wired mic in your helmet. Luckily, all three of us ride with a Sena 10c, 10c Pro, or 10c EVO. So occasionally Jason will clip the audio from the other person's helmet if we are both recording at the same time. However, to be honest, I kind of like the difference in audio quality because it makes the video seem more organic, more accurate to the reality of riding and chatting on an intercom. I think the viewer feels more like they are "there" with you in your helmet. As long as you can still hear the other person clearly, I wouldn't worry too much about the quality of their audio. Anyway, love your videos. What settings are you using on your GoPro? 1080/60 or 4K/60? It looks awesome!

If your old mounts, wiring, and speakers are still going strong, I'd go for it! Once you get the new EVO units and have them all mounted and working properly, take the "new" mounting hardware and headphones that came with the EVO, and put them into the "old" box with the Pro. Then you can sell them as a perfectly functioning kit! I did this and was able to get $250 for my 10c Pro. This makes the upgrade VERY affordable!!! I hope this helps. If you decide to order and are kind and helpful, would you mind ordering from my Amazon Affiliate link? It's at amzn.to/2XAmJ9b. I get a little kickback from them for the referral, which helps cover the cost of putting out these videos. Thanks and ENJOY!!!

Hi TwoAmBlacktop! Thanks for the comment. I didn't find the EVO that way at all. Are you viewing the footage on a nice big calibrated monitor or a little tablet with all the default settings from the factory? I mention that because by default, factories usually send out their devices with high contrast settings and saturation turned up. This helps their displays "stand out" in the stores better. I viewed and edited all the footage from the 10c Pro and 10c EVO, as well as the GoPro Hero 7 Black, on my calibrated monitor. To me, the 10c Pro looked pixelated and grainy, had a high contrast setting, with a color balance that was on the cool side and slightly magenta, and blacks that were without detail and "blocky". These were similar characteristics of the original 10c I had before the Pro came out. But the EVO seemed vastly improved, with much smoother gradations in colors, a beautiful warm color tone that matched the GoPro Hero 7 Black perfectly, better details in the shadows, and less pixelation in the video. Do remember though that this was not a scientific test. Because I was just riding up and down the neighborhood, it's possible the scenes I shot on the EVO happened to have more contrast due to the direction I was riding, or the shift in cloud cover from when I had ridden with the Pro attached. Also remember KZbin ads their compression to all uploaded videos, which hinders quality. But to me, the EVO was a clear winner in image quality.

Chris Smith I usually watch on a 4K TV or my iPhone 7 Plus, like the majority of KZbin viewers watch videos. Gopro footage usually looks pretty good unless someone just has no idea what they are doing. It’s not just your video, it’s every single Evo video I’ve watched. I definitely agree that the Pro looked blocky at times, but not horrendously contrasty.

Hi P Kant! Thanks for the kind comment. The feedback is more positive than I ever expected! I've put a LOT of miles on my bike since getting the 10c EVO. Many of those were on a long adventure ride through Mexico, which you can check out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fV67o2Cbicmdm5Y. During my trip I got caught in bad weather several days. One day was super cold with pouring rain for 5 hours!!! I never had a single problem and in fact recorded during the rain each time. The product has been working fantastic and I haven't had a single issue. The rubber battery doors that I thought would be a problem and would lose their seal have not become a problem at all. I am extremely happy that my initial reaction at these changes was completely unfounded. It's a great product. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend buying it!

Hi GreenZX9R! I believe Sena and other intercom brands "can" be connected to each other. You just have to jump through a more lengthy setup system. Basically it records 2 videos of the same footage, one 4k and one low resolution. 2- The video recorded shows a black fog on the sides left-right I think this must be faulty as I have seen some videos in KZbin and do not show the black fog on the sides left-right. Can you helps please?

@MotoPhotoAdventures 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Oliver! I'm so sorry to hear you are having trouble. 1 - YES, the Sena 10c EVO records 2 videos. This is a new feature over previous versions, due to the recently added ability to cache video files to your phone via WiFi/Bluetooth. Being able to preview your videos on the phone is a nice feature. But I agree, having 2 copies of each video when you download the MicroSD card to your computer can be confusing. The nice thing is, they are labeled with an "A" and a "B" at the end of the file names. All you have to do is delete all the "B" files before you begin editing. 2 - I've never seen this black fog you speak of. Unless there is something on your lens, or fog inside the lens, I agree this must be a defect. Hopefully the store you purchased from can issue an exchange for you. I hope this helps!

Is there a way to fix the exposure on the 10C evo? It seemed like it was overexposed, and while slightly diminished in quality, the 10C pro white balanced better.
@MotoPhotoAdventures
@MotoPhotoAdventures 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jean! Thanks for your comment. Are you watching the video on a monitor that has been color calibrated lately? I calibrate my monitor about once a month. On my screen, I found the 10c EVO to be spot on, nice natural color tones, and nice clear exposure (not overexposed). It matched the quality of the GoPro Hero 7 Black almost exactly! By contrast, the 10c Pro has a slightly cooler and slightly more magenta color cast. The image on the 10c Pro is also more pixelated and "blocky", meaning the dark shadow areas loose all detail and go black. I hope this helps. I'm not disputing your opinion. As a professional photographer, I tell students in my workshops all the time that color and exposure are very much subjective. Each person has a unique vision of what they are looking for, and a different preference on how bright or dark a scene should be...within limits of course. :-)

@@jeanerm2478 All the other benefits aside, I think upgrading to the 10c Pro or 10c EVO are worth it for the sole purpose of the "loop video" mode. I turn mine on even if I'm just riding 10 minutes down the highway to the gym. You never know when some distracted driver on their cell phone is going to pull right out in front of you. Maybe you saw that guy do exactly that during my review?!? Had he pulled out 2 seconds later, he would have hit me! Knowing I would have had video footage of him doing so, is totally worth the price for the device. If he'd hit me and then run, I would have had the evidence for the police to arrest him, and my insurance company to go after him. As far as the charging port, I have a friend who keeps a piece of black electrical tape over hers to seal out any moisture. But I have simply stashed a zip-lock bag and a rubber band in my tang bag. If I ever get caught in the rain, I'll just cover my 10c EVO with the bag. Better to be safe than sorry. And that's a very quick and easy solution! :-)

Hi @@JohnDoe-gc1kt! Thanks for the kind comment. The guys I ride with tell me that Sena and Cardo are the best brands for quality. I only have experience with Sena products. My first was the Sena 10c, which I upgraded to the 10c Pro when it came out, and of course now upgraded to the Sena 10c EVO. I have been nothing but extremely happy with the product, or else I would have switched at one of those upgrades. I don't connect the intercom with my friends very often. (We all like to listen to our own music or enjoy the sound of the wind when we ride.) But on those short tips across town when we wanted to, it was super easy to connect with my friends that were using other Sena devices. I understand you can even connect a Sena with other brands. But it takes a little bit of jumping through some hoops to set it up. With any other Sena, you just hold the pairing button on both units in for 5 seconds. Once in pairing mode, you click the jog dial on either unit one time. And you're connected! I've only ever connected with one buddy at a time. But I understand you can connect up to 4 units at a time this way. As far as quality, I find the sound to be pretty amazing for such a small device! I have a fairly quiet helmet (HJC RPHA MAX). I would suggest the best thing to do for top quality is to make sure you have a well fitted and quiet helmet. Anyway, no product is perfect. But I highly recommend this product. I hope this helps!

Pretty impressive, actually. Using just the intercom, it'll last all day. Recording video, it'll last 2 hour solid. On our adventures, we usually start the day with a fill charge, intercoms connected the whole time, recording the interesting bits as we go. When we stop for lunch, the battery is usually getting low. So we simply plug the Sena into either a USB power bank in our jacket pockets, or directly into the USB port on our bikes. You can continue using it just as before, while it slowly charges back up at the same time. By the time we get to our campsite that night, the Sena is fully charged again. Repeat the process the next day, and so on. This system never leaves us with a dead Sena!

@@MotoPhotoAdventures thanks for the advice. I have been following instructions to the letter from on manuals and their websites/videos. Normally once you are connected through wifi in phone settings when you 'go back' you see the app screen again. But in my case it does not, it goes to my main settings screen and then to the home screen (android phone). Calling tech support i have not tried yet, but i'd rather go back to the store where i bought it from and show them there how it does not work (first thing tomorrow morning if it has not changed yet - store was closed today). I'll first do the unistall of the app though, hopefully that'll do the trick. Either way i'll keep you updated. Ride safe!

@@MotoPhotoAdventures yea so uhm... I unistalled the app. And what do you know.. it works now. Weird, but i'm glad. Don't know how it did not work the first time. I gave the app premission to change settings of my phone just like the first time. Oh well. Thanks for the solution ;) ! Ride safe!

Hi Denny! That would certainly be nice. But then again, at the same price as a new GoPro, you might also say that a GoPro needs to have an intercom system so you can talk to other riders, an FM radio, and a way to call home via bluetooth connection to your phone. ;-) I totally agree it would be awesome if we could have it ALL in one device! But I'm very pleased with how much they did pack into this unit, and have been really enjoying it so far.

@@MotoPhotoAdventures I agree it has quite a bit into a small package, but since I already have a few GoPro cameras and Sena 20S Evo on my helmets, it isn't worth it to switch unless it fulfills all my needs. It is a step in the right direction though. But with GoPro having issues with damaged files, it will be appealing to those who haven't purchased the new GoPro cameras.

No image stablization is a deal breaker. Even iPhones have it.
@MotoPhotoAdventures
@MotoPhotoAdventures 4 жыл бұрын
Yes! I would love that as well. It's one thing that is missing. Of course you can add some video stabilization in editing. But it's not always the same. The good news is, the quality and color profile of the video is now just as beautiful as the GoPro. The video I'm seeing from the 10c EVO is a big step up from the 10c Pro. Plus GoPros and iPhones don't have a helmet intercom, FM Radio, and a sleek profile when attached to the helmet. They are all great devices. Each has it's strengths and weaknesses. Not one device on the market has everything in one package. But for me personally, the Sena 10c EVO is the best all-around product for moto-vlogging.

@MotoPhotoAdventures
@MotoPhotoAdventures 4 жыл бұрын
Hi 2LiveNoob! I totally get it. I wish the Senas had stabilization built in. But they have so many other features (FM radio, intercom system, bluetooth for music and navigation, etc.) that I totally understand why they couldn't fit that in. I did try using software stabilization at one point. But it just takes WAAAY too long to render and process the video (and sometimes it doesn't even work). However, note that in this particular video I wasn't trying to keep my head still. When I'm out recording actual vlogs, if I make an effort not to bob my head around looking at my mirrors and off to the scenery, it's actually a lot smoother and user-watchable than in this little tutorial in which I was concentrating on talking, not so much in recording.

Thanks for your feedback, Nick! I'm really sorry you didn't like yours. It does take a little getting used to. But once we figured out all the quirks, we love ours. Check out our most recent adventure video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4eoeoVmn7uVqJI. All three of us have a 10c EVO on our helmet. We love that we can capture our comedic bantering back and forth as we chat over the intercom, capture that classic "helmet camera" angle with the video, and mix that with b-roll from our GoPro cameras to give us something entertaining and fun to watch.

Hi Xtamhor! Thanks for all your great comments. After repeated use, and more experience shooting moto-videos, I've come to the conclusion that CONTENT and STORYTELLING is king. Unless you are watching for the specific purpose of finding flaws, you can't help but enjoy a fun video like our latest one, in spite of any technical limitations: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2O2Xq2DZpuffdU. :-) Having said that, yes I wish the Sena had stabilization. However, even my new GoPro Hero 8 doesn't have an FM radio, an intercom system, etc. So each device has it's strengths and weaknesses. The key is to use all the tools together to tell a great story.

@MotoPhotoAdventures
@MotoPhotoAdventures 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gordz! Sorry to disappoint. The review isn't a comparison of the pixels or resolution, but rather the features, the color, and the dynamic range. Even if I did do a 4K comparison, the compression and artifacts that get thrown in by KZbin when uploading video would make such a comparison hard to evaluate. If you have stringent requirements for shooting 4K, my recommendation would be to download an un-edited original 4K clip and analyze it directly in your editing software. If you can't find a clip online, feel free to let me know how to reach you and I'll be glad to send you one. My contact info is in the show notes. Happy to help any way I can!

@@MotoPhotoAdventures Cheers for the response. I run a 32:9 1440p monitor. I don't render to 4k, I crop/resize to 5120x1440. Kills my CPU, but the result looks fucken fantastic from my house. My issue is that you're not showing anyone the resolvable resolution. Sure these online services will fuck with it, but 1440 to 2160 is far too big of a leap for you to dismiss on the grounds of artifacts and compression, in my opinion.. (16 year graphic designer)

Hi pipingmad11. Thank you for your insights. Technically, professional photographers never have to worry about audio at all...we capture still images. However, my "professional videographer" friends have indeed explained to me the importance of good audio. That's one reason why I like the Sena 10c EVO. It does use an attached boom microphone to capture audio inside the helmet. And when I'm recording shots of myself on the phone with dialogue, I do try to use either a Rode Videomic ME (small cardoid mic), or a Boya lavaliere mic. For this video, I was using the Rode. (All the equipment I use for my videos is listed in the notes.) Yes, in a perfect world, if recording this video had been a paid assignment, I would have spent more time getting audio, lighting, and other details more dialed in. But I make these videos for fun in my spare time. I'm glad it helps others who might be considering these products. But I still had to make it to the gym and get back home for dinner after recording this. So I cut a few corners to save time. My apologies and I'll try to do better for you on the next one. Enjoy and have keep riding, my friend!

Hi Kapsol! Thanks for sharing. If you get wind noise, it's because of the position of your mic. Just push it up so that it's tucked in behind the chin guard on your helmet and you'll be fine. We talk at normal levels and have no problem with ours. Cheers!

Hi Gerry! Not a dime!!! I bought the original 10c with my own money. I bought the 10c Pro when it came out. And I bought the 10c EVO when it was released. I've used it to document tons of awesome adventures like down through Mexico, across the US on the Trans-America Trail, and around my state on the South Carolina Adventure Route. Check them out on my channel. Ep 42 on the TAT is a good example of how this thing takes a beating and keeps on recording all day long. It's not perfect. But it's a great tool for the job. And that's my honest opinion in the review.

I totally agree with charging port. Im on the lookout for my first device. The packtalk bold is ip67 certified, has mesh, auto volume but no camera. I really want the camera but don't feel comfortable risking a $600-700 device with no ip67 rating and at this price doesn't have mesh. I'm thinking cardo not having a device with a camera that they will answer sena 10c evo with they're own device and I'm pretty sure that will tick all the boxes.

Hi Andrew! Now that I've had a year of real-world riding, much of it in heavy rain, I've changed my mind on the charging port. It's actually been quite durable and elegant. The cover still snaps int place like it did when new. I ride while charging all the time. And I only take it off in absolute downpours as a precaution. I still think this is by far the best all-in-one device on the market. I wouldn't hesitate to get one!
