Great discussion! Made a career pivot teaching full-time in 2020. Lasted in high school environment 2.5 years due to continued antics by Principal. Now teaching in higher education and love it!

No longer a public-school teacher, but all told I did it for 10 years. Most of that was as a substitute teacher, a few of the last as a contract teacher. One of the insightful views I got in teacher education was that the public schools were "government schools." That's a concept we can connect to the Native American/First Nations' view of government schools on reservations. That community understood what a "government school" was and its function in and against their community.
