It's funny everyone brings up the lack of Hawks playoff success since 2021, but he's made it every year and they've been competitive against highly seeded teams. Luka didn't even make the playoffs last year and he basically gets a free pass. I'm not trying to hate on Luka, just pointing out the double standard a lot of folks have mostly because they dislike Trae.

While it's not American football or rugby, scoring at the rim inevitably comes with contact, bumps, and potentially, pain or injuries. Trae's size is a disadvantage, but other players his size do just fine. I think his issue is the aversion to getting hit; it's like he panics at the sight of an incoming defender and flings up a poor shot or pass.

I think is kinda his mentality around the ring and his iq. He trys to get the foul and force a bad shot, instead of looking for a good shot or pass. Curry is not way more stronger than Trae, but because he knows he is about to pass or shoot, he dont hesitate when he is going to the ring.

His career started in a league where the foul-baiting was at an all-time high, and he benefited enormously from that. With the rule changes veering towards less foul-baiting and more physical contact, we knew Trae was going to be one of the most affected players. He is an inmensely talented player and a legit all-star, but his game (and the Hawks in general) needs serious adjustments if he pretends to lead the Hawks to title contention.

I don't respect Trae's team making the ECF in 2021. That came after the bubble and produced a shortened off season. Every team that competed in the Bubble playoffs got whooped in the 2021 playoffs. Some Hawks buddies tell me that problem with the team is... 1. Trae isn't a volume shooter, he needs to cut down on shot attempts to be efficient. 2. Players aren't smart players or not buying in with HC quinn bc they're worse than before record wise. 3. They're a small team. They want to play OO but he's small for a center (who says is actually a PF) and is a reason why Clint is not gone yet. 4. Defense is worse than before. 5. Quinn is forcing them to play a style they're not good at, taking many 3s which they're not a good shooting team.

Trae off ball movement is borderline trash because he wont commit to it. Without offball movement defense wont respect him, and he wont get clear lane to the rim. The thing that makes steph OP is his extraordinary cutting ability after he pass, he will take 2-3 cut to find defensive gap. I think steph 0-5 ft fg% is high because of his high cutting volume. It exhaust, disrupt, and create a late arrival contest.

Good video. Trae is one of my favorite players but he definitely needs to be better. Hopefully he returns to form because this video came out after he's seemed to get back on track to some degree, his last two games were his best of the season so far. I honestly don't think Trae will ever be a good defender, but he can definitely improve and absolutely needs to improve when it comes to his shot selection/decision making. I can safely say that his poor efficiency is a result of his poor decision making when it comes to shooting the ball. He takes way too many bad shots, and insanely difficult shots. We know you can hit a three from the logo, it doesn't mean you should. We know you can hit some insane floater over a guy who's twice your size, it doesn't mean you should attempt it. He'll often just throw up some horrible shot up at the basket when he's driving, hoping for a foul. And like you mention, he gets knocked off balance easily because he's so small so his touch seems horrendous around the basket sometimes. He almost doesn't seem to have the ability to identify when the optimal time is to put a shot up. I feel like other players will look at the defense and think "is this a situation where I can get a good shot?", Trae just goes without thought. It's just so evident, I watch other guards you mentioned like SGA, Mitchell, Curry, etc. and they don't have this issue. I just hope he can improve because I've always defended him, and I still will defend him because, like you mentioned, people don't realize his impact, some people just look at his efficiency and dismiss him entirely but they don't actually watch the Hawks. Lots of players have flaws, but they'll always emphasize Trae's. The first thing brought up is his flaws, while for other players, it's their strengths. He's disrespected... but he absolutely does need to be better.

@@YeeSoest you don't get within two games of the finals on a fluke. They've had horrible injury luck since then. Trae had a slow start and jalen Johnson just got hurt but they have the talent to make a deep run this year if they can stay healthy. Just sit back and wait.

Doing lay ups against 7 footers is hard! Trae is a foul searching player. On break he stops so a defender will run into him. Eats at free throw line.

Trae has struggled immensely so far this year. His inconsistency this year has been hurting the hawks. There are times when the defense will converge on him in the paint and he’ll throw up a wild off balance floater. Or do too much with the ball.

The Hawks would probably be able to build a title contender if Trae Young became more like Chris Paul. There’s not a high ceiling for a team that builds around a player like Young is now. Just look at the Sixers all those years with Allen Iverson.

The one part of his game I feel like young needs to implement is running around off the ball. Majority of the time he just stands at the 3 point line waiting for someone to pass it back to him. That either leads to a far three point shot or a contested one leading to horrible shot attempts. He even has another highly skilled pg playing next to him who can handle the ball himself but isn’t the shooter he is. It’s unfortunate since this team tries its best to play around him but that’s the main issue. If you stop him you stop the team more or less.

Hawks fan here for over 15 years. Since I learned about basketball, the Hawks have been the team I’ve seen grow from fringe contenders to playoff staples to blah seasons to trash seasons and until now. I personally never like Trae’s game, even when he dominated college basketball. I wanted luka so badly, and when we drafted him in 2018 I was so excited, but then we traded him for Trae. I’m personally not a fan of small guards who can’t defend , even if they can score 30ppg. It’s not trae’s fault about his height , but you can’t build a team around a player who is literally the worst defender in the league. I hate pulling this card on him, but if Quin Snyder doesn’t make this roster go far in the playoffs, potentially an nba finals appearance, then he’s getting fired. Trae is gonna get the label of coach killer , and I’ve always thought Trae had a thing with coaches. Lloyd Pierce and Nate McMillan probably aren’t the biggest fans of him , but if quin snyder , who’s been a really good coach gets the boot, all the fingers are gonna point at Trae since he’s the leader of the team. That 2021 ECF appearance was great in the moment, but looking back at that, it was a cupcake matchup against a playoff dropper in Julius randle and Ben Simmons playing like a ghost. Yea we exposed Philly but if we were to face them again in the playoffs, we’d lose. Yea I’m hating like crazy on Trae ,but I never liked his game , I personally don’t think he has that great of a winning mentality, he can’t defend, and if it wasn’t for the rest of our guys stepping up we’d be horrible. We’re never winning a title with Trae young, and I’ll give it 2 years until we start hearing about Trae young trade rumors.
