Climbing Mount Everest may be on a lot of people’s bucket lists, but if you ever have a burning desire to climb the world’s tallest summit, you may seriously want to reconsider. Sure, if you do it, you’ll be able to brag about the accomplishment and annoy your friends forever, but it is not a fun climb
Moreover, the trek is so dangerous that a lot of people die attempting to summit Everest. From the inexperienced people who keep climbing it because they can afford the travel costs to the truth about the deadliest part of the mountain, let’s take a look at why people keep dying on Mount Everest.

I'm a retired recreational mountaineer and have summited some worthy peaks in Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, Canada and South America. For every summit accomplishment, I've failed to make it to the top 5 times more often because of bad weather, unstable rock/snow conditions, technical difficulties beyond my skills. Peaks above 18,000 feet even with acclimatization training I turned into a helpless creature barely able to descend without assistance from my mates and that taught me a lesson. Don't push beyond your limits. So I never aspired to do world class mountains. The oxygen supplemented fixed ropes on Everest and other mountains have become a carnival of pay to play rich supposed athletes looking for bragging rights. Sorry, I never would stand in line sucking on a tank for a summit. My summits were modest but every one of them was a wonderful experience and an accomplishment done in alpine style which I treasure. Can't brag on them but my mates and me share the memories, some of them pretty epic adventures and that's enough for me.

The sensible thing might be if you only get to attempt Everest if you have a certificate of having summited three other 7,500 or 8,000 meter mountains already (of which there are dozens in the Himalayas). Everest would thus be reserved for mountaineers who have earned (not just paid for) their chance, and Sherpas would be able to get to work on the other less crowded mountains as well.
@Quicksilver_Cookie
@Quicksilver_Cookie Жыл бұрын
This would only lead to mass commercialization of other easier 8000ers. Like Cho Oyu. Not solving the issue, but making it worse. People will still want to climb Everest, because...well, it's the highest point on Earth. All this talk about putting requirements for some experience among climbers is fantasy. Nepalese government likes it the way it is, it pays well. The fact that it is deadly honestly only increases a potential customer base, as people would want to brag about how dangerous it was being carried up the mountain by 5 sherpas. If K2 was not so inaccessible in terms of just getting to the foot of it it'd be commercialized too. Precisely because it is so dangerous.

I have no idea why anyone would. But anyway, they shouldn't allow so many people on the mountain. That makes it more dangerous. Also if the Sherpa says go back, the climber should go back with them. Johan Fouche some people do it for other reasons than to just “prove they can”. A lot of mountaineers find solace in the environment and feel in a completely different realm, away from the hustle and bustle, and pollution of the cities. I loved doing the Everest base camp trek, or being up any mountain. And it’s for the same reasons I go hiking in the jungle or swimmng miles out to sea - it isn’t so much to prove I can, but to get away from people and see nature close up.

A Brit named George Mallory, 37, when asked why he wanted to climb Mt. Everest, his reply, the famous saying, "Because it's there." Died along with Andrew Irvine on June 8, 1924, they were last scene about 800 feet from the Summit, when a storm struck and poor visibility kept those below from seeing whether they made it to the Summit or not. Mallory's body was found in 1999, 75 years later, Irvine's body is yet to be found. Mallory said to his wife, "I will leave your picture on top," his papers were found, but his wife's picture wasn't with them. Did he Summit? A camera that is possibly with Irvine's body might tell the story of the 1st Summit, if not Edmund Hillary, New Zealander, was the 1st, on May 29, 1953. Cheers Mate!
