To anyone watching this in 2021 and thinking about applying, do it. They treat their employees with the upmost respect and compassion. They have flexible hours that you can choose yourself (speaking from experience working part time) and the part about raises are true as long as you’re charismatic. During the Pandemic, tj’s not only gave their employees 20 percent off instead of 10, but also added two dollars in addition to their normal salary. Best job I’ve ever had

I joined Trader joes just one week ago, and everyone there is very friendly and in a positive mood. However, if you're under 18 they'll make you do a lot of physical work with carts, bathroom cleaning, etc which can get really tiring when they make you do a lot of it. Otherwise, its a wonderful first job, and everyone should definitely apply!
@CoCoFantastique7 ай бұрын
that sounds like a mate and captain issue. Ideally the company would like everyone should share the load to the best of their ability . What you are experiencing shouldn't be happening. I was at a store where everyone did PLH/ Carts. No matter what age. 17 year olds or 70 year olds literally. Staff could also trade duties with other staff as long as the updated the managers. People who really liked going out and doing carts would swap with crew who would rather stay indoors and do another task.

I worked in one of the original Trader Joe’s in the Los Angeles area back in the early to late 1970’s when we were mostly a glorified 7/11, before they went totally house brand products. I mostly enjoyed working there, but many times, if I worked the closing shift (back then we were open 7 AM to midnight, 7 days a week), I was put in the checkstand and told I would be let out to work on the floor after two hours. Most of the time, I would end up checking out customers my entire 9-1/2 hour shift. Nobody liked working the cash register, main reason being it is sometimes difficult working with the public. But for the most part, I truly loved working there and seeing the regular customers on a daily basis. At the time I started working there, we had a total of 16 stores, including Pronto Markets. My store was the fifth Trader Joe’s in the chain, which opened back in 1969. I still have dreams (and sometimes nightmares) that I still work there!

I love and shop at TJs weekly. Not because the people are friendly or happy (they mostly seem overworked and tired) but strictly because they have a few must-have staples for us plant-based eaters. I have to say, though, that there is almost zero diversity among the crew. I live in a very culturally mixed area and have shopped at the same location for 7 or 8 years. Just something I've noticed..
@ckrtom24 жыл бұрын
Rose .T. I completely agree! The employees don’t seem warm and genuine at all. Yesterday, I actually came across a friendly one which is very rare.
@ashrt2325854 жыл бұрын
@@ckrtom2 Right?? There are only 3 locations in town and my location is very very busy no matter what time of day you go in. The lines are down into the isles and the constant stream of customers seems overwhelming. I think maybe these people are overworked.
@EcoMouseChannel4 жыл бұрын
It's not a "culturally diverse" type of store to begin with. You kinda have to know about the store to even want to shop there, and understand it's store brands and features. However, their hiring practices lean heavily on team players, up-beat and quirky personalities. I've got tons of super market experience but can't get hired there because I'm introverted and don't really like talking to people. But enjoy stocking shelves, inventory, late night shifts etc... I'm better suited to a store like WinCo, where they stock in the middle of the night. Anyway, if you know of any minorities, POC that fit the quirky, super friendly profile, they'd get hired. And BTW, the hiring manager (or shift manager I guess) who I dealt with is black. As are several others in the various locations around my town (Las Vegas/Henderson). So it's not like they are actively discriminatory.
@ashrt2325854 жыл бұрын
@@EcoMouseChannel I never stated they were actively discriminatory, simply that I noticed their work crew wasn't very diverse considering the population in its located area and the amount of years I've been shopping there. The team members aren't noticeably "quirky" or "super friendly" at the loc I shop at so that doesn't say much. That's not to say that customer service is bad, just that they are mostly focused on working. The only time I'm recognized as a customer is when I check out. Otherwise, no eye contact, no smiles, no "hello" or "are you finding everything okay?" which I really don't mind. I live in LV too, maybe it's just the location I shop at.
@EcoMouseChannel4 жыл бұрын
@@ashrt232585 The Summerlin location is a "bit more" white. The store captain there is, from what I hear, kind of a task master. I can see how crew members there are forced to keep their heads down. The only location I've not been to is the Centennial location. But I go to the others regularly, depending on which side of town I find myself on. The store's tone is definitely set by who ever runs it.

@Truth-of-the-matter Жыл бұрын
As someone who works at TJ's I don't actively ask invasive questions and understand that most people are just interested in having their items checked out vs having long drawn conversations. As someone who leans more introvert I can't sustain conversations with every customer for hours per day so I prefer friendly/genuine greetings and small talk (depending on the person). On busy days I think most people are just interested in getting in and out of the store hassle free.

In my experience, I usually see the customer as the one continuing the conversation. The person ringing up the items usually inquires if the customer found everything they were looking for.. For others, it could be the Trader Joe's register is like an abridged version of therapy.
