The man was born almost a century ago, raised by people older than that, in poor working class Scottish culture and presumably lived through WW2. His values were not the same as ours because his situation was tougher and bleaker than ours, his role models were not ours. But he seemed to grow and evolve, if the later years of his life are any indication. He was a remarkable man and a great actor.

I;n a great adnurer if Sean Connery but I have no illusions about how he might have treated Diane Cilento. In his interview with Lee Bailey in 1967, in which Bailey visits his home, he stated, perhaps half jokingly, that he always had to win arguments. There was clearly an underlying tension between them even then, not helped by Cilento's apparent envy of Connery's own career outshining hers. He she been less ambitious, the marriage might have lasted longer, but I believe they were equally responsible for the breakdown, since Connery was never goin g to be a yes man to his wife.
