I actually really like the idea of God Valley just being erased from the maps but still physically existing because, to me, it gives a deeper importance to Nami’s dream of drawing a map of the world. She isn’t influenced by the world government so her map could possible end up being the only accurate map of the world to exist once she finishes it

My idea for why Shanks was in the chest - Garland put up his child as part of the bet (like a gamble - "I bet I can beat all of you! I'm so confident in fact, that I'll put up my own son as the prize for 1st place!") The Celestial Dragons take baby shanks, put him in the 1st place chest, but then the Rocks incident happened and, in the commotion, Roger got the 1st place chest without realizing there was the bay inside. Garland, for his part I imagine, was pissed but ultimately shrugged it off with the mindset of "I can make more".

I was wondering how many times Oda has introduced us to the word “incident” which had major consequences and involved the D. clan, and this ordered list is what I got: 1. God Valley incident (38 years ago): Garp & Roger vs. Rocks --> Dissolution of Rocks’ crew. 2. Ohara incident (22 years ago): Saul saves Robin --> Robin becomes a major target of the WG. 3. Enies Lobby incident (2 years ago): Luffy and his crew declare war on the WG and save Robin --> 1st major defeat for the WG since its birth. 4. Banaro Island duel/incident (2 years ago): Blackbeard defeats Ace --> Paramount War. 5. Was the attack of Blackbeard Pirates on Baltigo (HQ of Revolutionary Army) also called an incident? If anything it also shocked the world. The WG sent the Navy and CP to the island but it was already razed. They did clash with the BB pirates before the BB Pirates fled.

I think doflamingo's father homing was at god valley and when he was there something happened that motivated him to step down and live amongst the humans. Doffy was 3 years old during god valley and homing descended to become a human 5 years later.

So about the naming scheme. After some quick research, the real surname "Garling" might be derived from an old German word for spear; the name "Garland" (as in Figarland) derives from the French "land of the spear". So "Shanks" would fit this naming scheme as the verb "to stab."

Someone mentioned the treasure chests for the prizes to the contest could hold devil fruits. It would make sense that Yonko could get their hands on Devil Fruits, but it also makes sense that Rocks would get them from God Valley here.

The only thing we know about God Valley is what we heard from Sengoku, who said that Garp teamed up with Roger at God Valley to protect the Celestial Dragons, and more importantly, their slaves. If Rocks rolled up wanting to kill all of them, they could both be evil.

Rocks may have not expected as much resistance as he ended up getting. It may have been a "resource raid" where he was there for the prizes, kill some of the CDs along the way, and free some of the slaves to join his crew. He may have not expected Roger to be there, nor as many of the Marines.

One thing that's been bugging be about Roger's involvement in the God Valley incident, is that he supposedly reached Lodestar/Roadstar Island, the last island on the Grand Line, that same year. It makes me wonder which he reached first, but in a way, we can surmise from the likeliness. Unless they 1) had a reason and 2) could pass the Calm Belts to reach God Valley and then return to the Grand Line to finish their journey, they would've had to have reached Lodestar (possibly finding the All Blue where all Seas converge?) which allowed them to make their way to the West Blue (where we first hear rumor of the legend pop up btw). No one else seems to be trying to make sense of these two events, and I don't have a comprehensive enough understanding of events or lore to figure to out. I'd love to hear what others think!

I am not to familiar with it eather... But how about this explanation... A year takes some time... I dont know the exact number of days in the One Piece world but it is certainly more than 100 days... So lets say Roger reached the last Island at the beginning of that year and realised he had to gather all 4 Road Porneglyphs and he happend to start his search in the West Blue... Imo that could explain things

What keeps me up at night is the fact that the Moon tribes came down to Vearth and used the term "god" a lot with Enel even calling himself a god at some point but the celestial dragons never bothered to annihilate them for using the term "God", also calling themselves celestial dragons makes it seem as if they came from outer space, maybe the moon even. Also Roger visited the sky island and its existence was a known legend, maybe not the fact that there was a poneglyph up there but if it was known then all the more reason for the celestial dragons to want to destroy it unless they have some connection the the moon tribes and don't bother them to maybe keep a secret. And also this, Kalgara was called Shandora's Demon and Enel was called God Enel, demon and god fought and the demon lost but his will was carried into the future by his descendants and one day a man carrying the Will of D appeared and defeated God.

I believe Dragon was a young marine and he helped free Kuma, Ivankov, Jinny. The celestial dragons were going to kill Dragon for being a traitor and Garp offered himself to save Dragon. Someway somehow Garp promised to take on Rocks to save Dragon. Roger being a friend to Garp same way Koby is to Luffy fought along side Garp in order to save Garps son Dragon.

Crackpot theory, Brook is from God Valley. I have no evidence other than Brook says that he’s from “a certain country in west blue” with certain being a word Oda typically uses to describe an important thing he doesn’t want to say the name of yet. For example in fishman island Jinbe said that Aokiji and Akainu had a duel on a certain island in the new world. I feel like Brook’s homeland will come into play at some point and the only other island I could see him being from is Toroa.

Since shanks got sake from his hometown and it was said godvalley got wiped off (might be imu) but maybe it got pushed away by a previous user of the nikyu nikyu no mi and died allowing kuma to eat it (it might be the island he lived on between between birth and when he joined the roger pirates, cause they might have dropped him off somewhere and visited it like how shanks visited luffy)

I’d imagine that there is an amount of points also for haki users.Having haki doesn’t mean you’re the leader. You get 10K for the leader but if there’s a million people on the island at least 1/4 has haki and another has CK.

My theory - Roger went there first to stop the tournament and while engaging the marines, Rocks shows up to kill everyone. Enemy of my enemy and all that Roger and Garp team up to stop the Rocks pirates as they are the bigger threat overall.

The only issue with garling giving whitebeard the scar is the oden flashback. We don't see whitebeard initially with the scar and after the scuffle with the roger pirates it is implied he got the scar there based on the bandage. I wouldnt mind if they retconned this but it would still be a retcon

Rocks recruited all those top tier pirates because he knew his main goal was to overthrow the world. One pirate crew vs gods knights admirals gorosei and imu. That’s an uphill battle and he knew it. Tbh all he had to do was expose the world to the taboo info he had and then watch the world fall apart and then make his move during the chaos. I’m pretty sure he was aware of joyboy and imu

Its incidents like these than make you question yourself and ideologies before picking a side. (Same for wars) Why would Roger side with Garp and protect the Celestial Dragons? I like to believe that he had some other grander benefit for helping them, otherwise someone could say Rocks were doing everyone a favour by killing Celestial Dragons and destroying the WG. And the only reason i see to rationalize Roger's decision is being the fact that the Rocks crew was so strong (indeed they were) that they could rule the world and exert their will quite easily. (Think about it, prime Big Mom, prime Kaido, prime Whitebeard , prime Qebec and who knows how many more strong pirates grouped under the same banner as the strongest. I can imagine only the WG had a decent chance to stop them from world domination. Yet even they needed some help to put it out thus Roger steped in. But here is the deal... Do you preffer a world where it is ruled by the mightest to dictate everything? Or a world ruled by deceptive rulers that are fully corrupted? Roger chose the latter. Dictatorship or Oligarchy? Its literally a one to one parallel to our real world geopolitics really. Where we all believe and have the facade that we have a say for politics but the elites are the ones who pull the real strings, or in contrast a strong leader that is ruling with a strong regime of his own. Pick your poison. There is no "right" or "wrong" but a contest of might and will, because in either case you will require the ability to exert and enforce your will into others who are unwilling to submit to you and your ideas. Thus power is key unfortunately, you can not always talk your way out of every situation. This is unfortunately the way the world is working. Just charisma can not contain everyone from their own ways that may be bad. Look at Luffy he is supposedly turning everyone into an ally but it is not really possible...even in fictional standards. Kaido, Big Mom, Jones, Lucci and others will never align themselves with him unless they have a mutual benefit. We can not like everyone and in contrast we can not be liked by everyone. Unfortunately we can not all together unanimously agree into one thing or at least not yet. Things like these that are bringing ideas that can be applicable to our own world or legit parallels is what makes One Piece the best anime in my opinion. The relatability and the "realism" that it presents by reffering to real life issues and generally aspects of our lives. Like religion, politics, society, traditions , morals, physics, geography, history, technology, evolution , race , injustice and the unique fictional metaphysics that compliment them in the story is peak. One Piece worldbuilding is the best. At this point i only hope for its ending NOT to be a cliche Utopian world were everyone and everything is fixed , happy and complete. Because this is way to goofy, ironic and bs imo of an outcome after all the dark concepts and stories that lead up to it. I want a semi happy ending, where not everyone is content but everyone got what they deserve, with no exaggerations. In the end we all have our own strengths and flaws, we should try to get the best out of ourselves and co-exist, work together and explore this vast universe that surrounds us. Free from our own selfish and evil nature that leads us to God complexes and then to wars among ourselves for whatever reason, just to dominate our own species. PS This is tragedy.
