Hey, Wrestle Mania needed Mr.T because it needed a big name, tough guy celeb to pack the seats and bring in much needed publicity. Vince understood that, but the wrestlers did not. Sounds like Piper was genuinely upset and behaved unprofessionally. All Mr. T did was react understandably to the disrespect. Don't try to paint him as some sort of premadonna.

Mr T was actually a pretty infamous prima-donna at the time. He pulled a lot of ego antics on the set of the A-Team, had a huge entourage, and many 'rules' about interacting with him. He later mellowed, but he was a bit of nightmare to work with for a while.

Andy Warhol wasn't a "celeb guest" as such - he was a genuine old time Capitol/WWWF fan who had been a regular at the Garden shows. Being kind of royalty in New York, he was allowed everywhere, even the locker-rooms. Yeah...it's all been said and done so many times before, that even I, a wrestling fan of nearly 39 years, am sick of all the rehashed stuff that's been done over the years. If you read an exciting book, but read it over and over, sooner or later, you're not gonna read that book anymore. You'll know every bit of it, word for word. The same principle applies here:the same old junk makes one sick of it after awhile!

At 3:09, the wrestling territories map mistakenly shows Manitoba as part of Stampede Wrestling's territory, when Manitoba was actually part of the AWA territory. Stampede only promoted a couple of shows in the Winnipeg area in the late-'80s in conjunction with Winnipeg promoter Tony Condello, some time after the AWA gave up Winnipeg to the then-WWF.

If anyone here plays the Total Extreme Wrestling series, there is a series of mods called iDomination where Wrestlemania failed, and the NWA still reigns. There's basically several WWE'S. Dusty owns WCCW, Lawler's Memphis is huge, ECW is still going strong, Flair never recovered from his plane crash and bought out JCP, and McMahon came back as part of the NWA under Titan Wrestling Entertainment. This goes for Canada and Mexico, as well. There are mods for 1990, 2008, and 2010, with an unofficial 2015 mod. I'd suggest checking it out.
@steveharvey21027 жыл бұрын
Sounds interesting. Is it a P.C. game?
@arthriticpenguin11287 жыл бұрын
Steve Harvey Yes. There's a free version (2005), but the version that I'm thinking of is for the 2010 version. The unofficial mod is for 2013, and the most current version of TEW is 2016. It's text based, and you can grab a demo of previous versions and they all come with a conversion tool after 2005.
@steveharvey21027 жыл бұрын
I'll definitely check it out. Thanks for the info. Cheers.

There have been wrestling supercards way before Wrestlemania. Starcade 83, Superbowl of Wrestling 72 & 78 and Showdown at Shea come to mind. With the Rock n' Wrestling Connection being a success, the Brawl to End it All and the War to Settle the Score both shows on MTV being big successes, Wrestlemania 1 seemed highly likely to succeed.

Roddy Piper in his infamous surprise return to WCW to confront long time arch-nemesis Hulk Hogan with the roles reversed as Hot Rod was the uber face and Hollywood Hogan being the mega heel, cut a classic worked-shoot promo the likes of which only Hot Rod could pull off. Long time wrestling fans like me got high and excited just off the nostalgia fumes of seeing these 2 wrestlers on wrestling's version of Mt. Rushmore in the ring together again. Then Roddy said the one line that brought legitimacy into a business that needed an adrenalin shot of realness injected into it. Hot Rod laid it out very plain and simple as I'll paraphrase his infamous line; Hot Rod-"If I hadn't made the fans want to see me dead and hate me like they did, do you (Hulk Hogan) really believe that the fans would've loved you as much as they did?!" Roddy drew legit heat at the time for allowing Hogan to beat him every which way possible EXCEPT by clean pinfall, which allowed Piper to cash-in all those years later when in the same great promo, Roddy told Hulk that he was the ONLY man that Hulk Hogan never beat, i.e. could never get a clean win over. That led to the match while not being a great technical masterpiece, told a great story inside the ring with the shock of Piper being one of a handful of men to cleanly beat Hulk with Roddy's sleeper-hold finisher, and the fans went crazy because Hollywood was unbeatable at the time. Hell, Lex Luger submitting Hulk to win The Big Gold Belt was treated as being a miracle. No doubt that the impact and contributions which Hulk Hogan made to the business took wrestling to main stream heights not seen since the days of Gorgeous George, and many would say (myself included) beyond that era. However without Piper's hard worked for nuclear heat (which legit put his life constantly in danger) in the first ever WrestleMania, not Mr. T's or Muhammad Ali's mainstream star appeal, along with the popularity of Jimmy Snuka, and not even the iconic Hulk Hogan himself, would have been enough to save the first WrestleMania from being a bust which Vince couldn't afford literally putting all he had into the event without the nuclear heat Piper gained and spread by proxy thru to Mr. Wonderful and a mundane star like Cowboy Bob Orton. Indeed, if the fans didn't hate Hot Rod so much, would they have loved Hulk Hogan enough to invest in tickets and closed-circuit television in the hopes that Hulk will finally put Piper down & out for good? We'll never know, but when Hulk couldn't shut Piper up and beat him, fans showed with their money that they hadn't much hopes Mr. T could do the job Hulk couldn't by watching Hot Rod verbally destroy Mr. T with every one of Piper's promos with absolutely no repercussions given by the "toughman bouncer" Mr. T. If WM2 was the card for the original WrestleMania, then we wouldn't have had the epic WM3 and the great, (along with the terrible), WrestleMania's that followed the original which Piper was the undisputed unsung star of!

I believe I have seen all (11) current stories on the "Behind the Titantron" series. It is very well produced. (I'm sure I am not the first person to ever think of or say this) However, I think the series could and should be edited and packaged as a standalone DVD for sale as well. The "internet and disclaimer aspects, (Examples: references to click like, share, leave comments and, subscribe - Last week we, Join us next week when we, we will, and, Join us for more...") - could be edited from the main program, instead they could appear as a "buffer" and as advertising for the internet site/side respectfully. These could be placed at the beginning and of the program. The "Montreal Screw Job" episode should be presented as one continuous story for DVD purposes, not in three separate parts. -with the other stories being different, separate "Chapters" on the same DVD! If the DVD series was packaged and sold in a collectable storage case w/cover art - I know I would perches in a heartbeat, for a fair price. (from $10 - 20 U.S. dollars) I'm not the only one that would buy it, I'm sure! Thanks, again.
