Eh, look over at the game development of Star Citizen - hasn't helped there. They've been developing their games for a very long time, and give weekly status updates, have a huge roadmap showing exactly where they are and where they're going, and ETA's. A board that shows updated estimates, what's been done early, what's been done on time and what's lagging behind. Chris Roberts is still broadly seen as an incompetent grifter, even though at this point, Star Citizen has more content you can go play than certain other games that are considered finished. Not to say the two situations are comparing apples to apples - Star Citizen really is a crowdfunded project, and it suffers from several management issues I don't really think apply here, at least to the same extent. But the point that certain people are going to stir shit and mischaracterize what's going on is pretty constant I'd say.

It seems watching the video didn't seem to clear things up for you. - He decides his own standards and goals, yes. We all decide that for ourselves. We can discuss whether the standards are realistic and healthy, but ultimately it's up to him what they are. - "Lying to people who pay his salary" That's just a fundamental misunderstanding of things. We are Wintersun's customers - not their employer. I'm not convinced Jari is salaried either, as he says his income streams are mainly tours, record sales, some ad revenue and merch. But that's the money Wintersun makes. His personal income may be a salary he takes/gets from Wintersun, but even if it is, we are not the ones who pay his salary - Wintersun is - with money we exchanged for a product. Now, as for whether he lied or not, I don't think he has lied. What are you saying he lied about? I'd like you to elaborate, but do provide sources, so I can be sure it's something he said and not something you read in a youtube comment that some guy heard in a dream. - Releasing albums about a decade late: Late compared to what? Compared to his original estimates? Sure, he did that. I would have liked to have it sooner, but I don't think he gave me a deadline and said it will be done by that date. Even if he did, I personally don't care, but if you do, then that's fine, you can care all you want. - Is it good management? Well no. I don't claim he is a good manager. I think he's an amazing songwriter, guitarist and a very good singer. I don't buy the albums for how well they're managed. I buy them because I like the music, and yes it took a really long time for part 2 to be released after the first part. I don't know that I care very much, because I haven't paid him anything without getting what I paid for.

This, to me, just shows that people believe what they want to hear. I participated in the 2017 campaign, and I knew exactly what the plan was and that there were going to be other campaigns. You made that point clearly in the videos you uploaded before and during the 2017 campaign. Also, just to make sure people know this, for the 2017 campaign, you did not receive just The Forest Seasons album. I also received a remastered debut album, remastered Time I, isolated tracks for Time I, Live in Tuska album , a gorgeous photo album, and finally The Forest Seasons. I just want to make sure that people understand what people from the 2017 campaign received. I'll be ready on March 1st, and I'll happily contribute again.

All of the drama around Wintersun has never, not once dulled my appreciation and anticipation of their music. Truly a one-in-a-generation band - the passionate arguments will rage on but we should never lose sight of what is most important - THE MUSIC. That's what Wintersun is all about, their music changed my life, as it has for so many. This is a nice sentiment, but it's difficult to believe. It's unimaginably hard to maintain excitement for over a decade for drip-fed music. You're either a new fan, or didn't really pay attention to Wintersun over the years. If you were truly somehow here from the start and never once lost hope - then kudos. But I suspect a lot of these statements are fans posturing now that the album may finally be released. That being said, I'm doing my best to dust off the old wintersun fan in me, because I'd really like to join back in on some of the hype. The way of the fire is still my favourite metal song, and I've barely heard it.

​@@pbmdh That's awesome, I bet you're stoked! When I ran out of material I ended up binging on some of his inspirations, including the mighty Summoning. Time II definitely marks an end of a 2 decade era, no doubt Jari's regretted his decision ever announcing it! I imagine each Wintersun album will likely feel like a pleasant surprise going forward (Like the forest seasons did, but alas it fell a bit hollow as many of us were still awaiting anything from Time 2 and the crowdfunding felt like another carrot down that road). Really happy for Jari that he can finally put this all to bed, I wonder why he didn't put this video out earlier though. Perhaps it just took a while to understand what it seemed like from a fan's perspective, our snide remarks (I've definitely left one or two) didn't help either.

People buy a huge digital package from you, and you make a good amount of money from it that is YOUR MONEY, transaction complete! I really wonder how people can be upset after the 2017 campaign. It was clear, to me, that you buy a finalized product via the platform. Simple eCommerce. It was not about crowdfunding the Wintersun HQ - that was just a vision and an ultimate bonus should things go super smoothly. Could all this have been clarified earlier? Perhaps, but as Jari said, they spent 3 years touring after which more plans were set in motion. Completely false. Initially it was intended as a FIRST campaign in order to reach ULTIMATE goal which was even SET to 750K euros to build Wintersun HQ. They literally asked people to help to reach ultimate goal. Moreover, the campaign page with all the updates is still available via indiegogo and everyone can go and refresh their memory. It wasn't a bonus or vision, it was a straight plan. I paid 50 euros not for the package alone (not interested in isolated tracks or anything) but to eventually get more Wintersun releases FASTER as they PROMISED. It was a payment to support the band reaching ultimate goal. And guess what? I got nothing for 7 years. No more music at all. Plan was abandoned long time ago and Jari didn't even care to be open about it as soon as the plan got abandoned. How it is possible is beyond me.

Like, you paid for a product and you received said product, so I'm genuinely baffled at where the "scamming" claims came from. I think part of the issue was the way the initial funding campaign was worded and promoted. I distinctly remember that the way the campaign was set up was designed to take advantage of people's desire to see Time II completed. Yes, we all understand the complexities of your vision and crafting music this complex is no easy task. We understand that sometimes it's not as simple as sitting down and making it happen. That said, yes, The Forest Package was a finalised product, that people did pay for. And you could use the proceeds from that anyway you wanted. Nobody disputes that. The problem was that the emphasis at the time was less about 'you are spending your money for this album you really want', it was more so 'If you really want us to make Time II, you have to buy the forest seasons from us first' No other band large or small bargains with fans in this way. It felt a little bit entitled and obnoxious - especially after multiple delays and missed release windows already. But at the end of the day if the music is worth it i can forgive a bit of big-headedness! Congrats on finishing Time II!

INB4 Time II also has barely audible guitars and sound drowned by poopy synths. The only correct way to listen to TIME I is the live rehearsal (before it got remastered and ruined ofc)

@@aexalven i don't know, listening with a really good pair of over-ear headphones really elevates it. I was and still am stunned by the quality of the sound of Time I. The songwriting is up to subjective taste, but the simple feat of getting so many layers mixed and working seamlessly was astounding. It truly is a leap forward for metal production and sets the standard to this day. That said, that alone does not give you any right to fleece people out of money for a followup that should have come out 12 years ago and strong arm your loyal fans out of their hard-earned cash by forcing a lesser album on them. It was all in the messaging, if Jari had just said 'look, as you know this is a herculean task, it will take years for this to be complete' from the outset, the drama would have been avoided. Instead we got a decade of empty promises and aggressive marketing, which just wore thin eventually. Luckily, the album is now done, and that's really the only saving grace

I remember being a little confused at the time about how the whole crowdfunding thing was supposed to work, but I didn't really mind because I just wanted the music. I paid money, I got my copy of The Forest Seasons, that's good enough for me. Looking forward to the next album, but I still have the Time II stress ball to hold me over until then!

So in other words, the Indiegogo campaign was basically using a crowdfunding platform as a "made to order"-deal. It's a little unusual so it makes sense that people might have gotten the wrong idea, especially if the description for it explicitly mentioned long term goals technically unrelated to the campaign itself.

You have to live somewhere, eat something, have some money for the future so people who gave you a couple of euros shouldn't feel like they are gods who can control you.
