So basically there's a first batch of backers that get scammed "willingly" to then go and scam others. You buy a tile for Earth2 at $100 despite knowing it's a scam and the game will never be finished, just to resell it at $200 by scamming someone else. It's the scamchain. The whole thing is just depressing, people defending the scammers just so they can take part on the gig.

Play-to-earn is actually even worse if you give it some thought. In mobile game they make money by hooking people and making them stay. A play-to-earn game makes money by people leaving. They make the most money by people joining, finding it boring and then leaving. With how cheap making a basic game is the fact that this mechanism will only be sustainable for a year or two doesn't matter. Once the word is out that the game is bad they will just make another one. If a game is good and it keeps people sticking around they will lose money off of it. Asking for a play-to-earn game to be good is asking for the company to make a product that's directly against their own interests. It's also why I usually talk in defense of fandoms. Sure they empower large corporations, but they directly encourage them to make a long lasting product that will keep people sticking around. We consumers are at the mercy of corporations so the only thing we can do is incentivize them to make the products we want.

The craziest part of all this is that game reviewers or content creators are kind of having to cover this because these projects are claiming to be tied to a video game. When everyone who's an actual gamer knows they have zero to do with one. I'm not saying this shouldn't be covered. It's extremely interesting and hilarious. But it's just a strange topic, because everyone involved.... from the shill "game developers" to actual gamers know they have nothing in mutual common. That it's all just some pyramid scheme, get rich quick thing with no actual game attached to it. But the "game devolpers" continue to pretend they're making something for us gamers. It's like a company making battery operated back massagers shaped like a phallic dick claiming to work wonders on your chronic back issues. No one using it is alleviating back problems, but that's the ad campaign that everyone is OK with. LOL

It's the whole attitude most people have of _"I'm not a millionaire... Yet."_ when there's almost zero chance of it. Crypto has been sold to many as investing (like the stock market) for the regular Joe, when it's as unlikely as playing the lotto that most of these projects will make anyone but a select few rich.

True. One should view crypto as nothing more than a speculative asset that one might take a gamble in with their spare money. And know that it is ultimately a zero sum game, especially when there isn't any inherent value nor any matrix to tie it to anything of value in real life. And what you gain us because of the loss of others. Especially the late comer who hold on to the end of the rope when it crashed.

Think about it another way how many people instead of smoking and playing the lottery just dumps that money in crypto. There are multiple areas where its deemed useless to spend money since its not innovative or needed for sustainable living. Will buying that beer get you a better high then winning a crypto lottery. So what if another person gets rich the big guy is inflating us to oblivion so why not burn my money in hopes of summoning a genie

Making money from almost pure hype is a new concept in the gaming space but people like Musk for instance have been doing this for years.
@Brad.M.2 жыл бұрын
Ehh not exactly. There have been games that quite literally rode solely on the hype train only to launch so badly that they were either forgotten quickly and died out, attempted to continue despite the launch issues, or reached a level so unspeakably bad that the controversies around the games were more popular than the games themselves. Thus forcing the devs to fix the games, issue refunds, end any further updates to the games prematurely, or just kill the games and disappear into the night with the money. Games like The Order 1886, Assassin's Creed Unity, Watch Dogs, Duke Nukem Forever, Mighty No. 9, or more recent games like Fallout 76, Anthem, Battlefront 2042, New World, etc. You get the idea. Making money from pure hype is not new to the gaming industry, its just become more prominent with publishers becoming lazier and greedier.
@justanothernobody71422 жыл бұрын
@@Brad.M. Yes but the difference is that usually most hype around new games comes from the fanboys/girls. The studios just let it happen. Yeah, NFTs and crypto solve nothing in the context of games. The technology fundamentally does not provide anything that games can benefit from that can't be done better with an alternative non-crypto solution. Any purported benefit falls apart once you actually start to think about the implications of what relationship the technology would have with the game and the benefits evaporate, leaving just a shittier, slower, more costly, more complicated and hard to maintain ownership tracker.

I think a big part is people still having the mindset of the early internet, most of the cryptobros are of that age where they grew up with the internet and quite likely heard a lot of skepticism of it. That's partially why they are so dismissive of criticism and so confident in web 3. They just assume a market that when they grew up was evolving and growing rapidly will just continue to do so. In truth most markets experience a period of rapid growth and innovation and then stabilize and often stagnate. I think that is what the internet is doing with it already being about as good as it is ever going to be and "web 3" really is just people refusing to accept that. "As good as it's going to be" does not mean I think the internet is a paradise by any means. I just think it won't really get any better for a variety of reasons, mostly corporate interests, and it will most likely continue to get worse from here on out. Most industries even in ancient times follow a trend of increasing quality until a peak is reached and then a slow reduction in quality as "innovation" mostly means reducing costs while keeping the quality 'acceptable'.

The main problem is that the people that are already bought on a game, will incentivize people to join, so it will raise. It won't take long until the late joiners start to get mad for losses. What am I missing? How does having blockchain or NFTs in a video game going to make it better, in terms of a gaming experience? I do understand that you could make money on the side, but I complete miss why that's important to the video game industry when the goal is to create fun and engaging video games. WHAT AM I MISSING? For example, I don't like VR, But I 100% see the potential that VR gives game designers and one day see VR being the norm. I do not see how NFTs or blockchain currencies in games does anything even remotely similar to VR technology when you are looking at the game experience for the consumer.

I'm honestly just disgusted with the crypto world and have nothing but contempt for what it has become. I remember years ago when crypto currency was something talked about by a community of people who actually *believed* in the fundamentals and philosophical tenats of blockchain technology and currencies based on higher concepts and analysis of the political economy and how they could positively play a role in the future. Some of them were ideological libertarians who saw BTC as a sounder alternative to the "federal reserve funny money out of thin air", some were leftists and OWS types who viewed it as a way to undermine the oligarchical crony capitalist system, some were mere IT and math nerds who viewed it as just a much more elegant and internally consistent mechanism for transactions that just worked. 3ven though my ideological views and beliefs about monetary policy have shifted quite a bit since 8 years ago when I first read about it. Still there are obvious virtues and solid reasons speaking for it, but nobody cares anymore. Its all just sleazy slimey hypemen and carbon copy cookie cutter comments and replies under every crypto twitter account with rehashed 5 year old memes and vapid rocket diamond hand emoji spam, totally shameless and devoid of meaning like the most shameless used car salesman its all just a nihilistic way for the bottom feeders of the internet to get rich and cash out
@carlwide65942 жыл бұрын
Bitcoin is better money than anything else we've ever seen, imo. It's a great idea to have a reserve currency that Central Banks can't tamper with. As to the rest, technology is only what people use it as. Everyone goes on about political and economic systems, but the reality is that what controls everything is human behaviour and human values. If Leftists gave half their money away to the poor, living their life by the values they claim to have, there wouldn't need to be Leftist political parties, but they don't because they like having their money. If right wing people allowed for easier access to Capital and allowed for more genuine Capitalism there would be less inequity. That's the real truth of the matter, almost everyone just wants more money. So when a new technology comes along, the first thing most people want to do is to try to make more money. Everyone's playing the same game. All the social justice demonstrations are just people who want more money. The right wing just want more money. You're either the smart guy who gets the money or the dumb sap who gets nowt. Both Leftist and Rightist philosophies are Materialistic. Both sides say that Material wealth is the only status that matters. They just argue about how that wealth and status gets distributed. We can call it immoral and probably be right, but our virtues don't pay the rent, the heating or the food in this secular world. If we all want to start living up to the highest spiritual ideals and sharing everything, then let's do it, but politics and economics is just a grab for money no matter which side you're on. Cynical, I know. Peace.

I liked the change of pace with this type of video. Your regular videos are great, of course, but having something a little different every once in a while is good. As for the basic thing that's happening with this, you lay it out pretty well. The most ardent supporters of these types of projects are those who will most immediately lose if it crashes too suddenly. The earliest backers and the creator already got theirs, so they don't need to fight so hard for it. It's the people who came in after the tipping point who need the show to keep going, if only for a little longer, so they minimize their potential losses. ...also, if your waifu game idea ever got off the ground, I will be there. The way I look at it, it gives me something to do with my money besides buying some crypto and waiting for it to moon. It gives me the sense that I'm actively participating in my investment's growth. And the team consists of solid people who have been pushing out new content for years which goes a long way in building confidence whereas most projects end up having nothing to show for their "efforts". I actually found myself changing a lot of my views of crypto because I didn't realize I was not fully informed of all the perspectives or what it fully entailed. Thank you for illuminating things I didn't realize even were there.

Trust me Kira, if you created, directed etc an MMO, I would back it in a heart beat as I know it would have your morals and intelligence driving it.
@KiraTV12 жыл бұрын
definitely don't do that!

Those are not the teachings of kira. I'd first watch a gameplay trailer, and need a submition of their resume and exact roles in previous games :)

That a fallacy from authority, but I do understand that one would place appropriate trust on Kira. I would - but that doesn't mean unquestioningly :p

@@spring3281 nanana no gameplay TRAILER, for me it is needed some kind of Demo or something like an Alpha test.

As someone who supplements their income on penny stocks none of this is news to me. We all know the companies are BS and the game is getting in and getting out before you are the last person holding the bag. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose but as long as you don't get greedy you can grind out some extra cash. That being said I would never touch NFT lolol.

I think the space can and will work. Like everything there is a lot of signal and noise out there. As a developer in the web3 space but not in gaming I think the projects that are being labelled as gaming projects with absolutely zero members of the founding team with no credentials in gaming, you should run a mile in the opposite direction. blockchain is a tiny feature albeit with massive potential impact and you should ignore anyone without the skills and track record in gaming or any other previous industry. I get its frustrating seeing people fall for this stuff I really do. But you can never change someone elses mind for them no matter how right you are and how much you try this is just a sad reality.

How can any project with a goal of "lets just get rich by getting rich" work? Someone always pays, and if you're not sure who's going to be paying, its probably you.

Problem is that many people who buy shit coins and get on nft scams do zero research and just pretty much gamble invest. If people would just learn how most of the cryptos, market cycles and emotions work, they would actually "invest" in stuff and not just gamble and get burned.

This is basically a game of hot potato. The one holding the potato (NFT here) in the end will be the victim and will face the financial loss. Hopefully it will be the same person that bought the NFT in the first place as he started it. If there were no people buying these pixels this scam wouldn't even exist. The sad part is the creator always wins. Honestly the longer i live, the more im disgusted by humanity.

Nice vid! Why dont you just say that all that nft-blockchain games are essentially pyramid schemes. And then it is clear that early investors into pyramids can get their profit by withdrawing at a right moment, all others lose everything.

The idea of making a fortune or decent living of such games is somewhat similar to the dream of making it in pro sports. Few will succeed and become rich, few hundred will make somewhat of a living and the vast majority will waste both time and money.

the hype for crypto and NFT's is the entire reason there is any value in it, the value of the crypto only goes up the more people invest, so being absurdly zealous is your best way to get money back for your investment. Once youve suckered in some new fools, and made your money, you can cash out on your investment, and the value drops. Now the people suckered has to be uber zealous too to get their money back. And if they succeed, theyll think "hey, this made me some money, I should keep doing this." Every, single, penny, that someone earns on crypto, another person looses.

in kickstarter every MMO should honeestly say, wee are unexperienced in Gaming Industry, We need 500 Million funding, and 12 years of devlopement. This is the hard truth,
@ssbrunocode2 жыл бұрын
Well this is a tricky question, I think it's the right tool used for a different purpose, as a player I don't like where this is going, soon we won't have good "no-crypto games" because the investment will pile up on the market of crypto games, so digital games as we know them today will no longer exist, on the other hand, as a tech enthusiast, I really like to see the power moving from government hands to decentralized distribution, and I see the digitizing of the individual as a natural phenomenon and money is just an extension of the value that the individual brings to society, so values are becoming abstract and digitized and money is just another value in the value chain, it is not surprising to see this transition... With all that said, this video is excellent, thanks for bringing some critical thinking to me on a really interesting topic.

Someone's already doing the procedurally generated waifu game thing. (from the guys that made Waifulabs, the thing that uses machine learning to make new waifus) No mention of NFTs in that though. On the other hand, the game's titled Arrowmancer: Capitalist Space Witches, so who knows where it'll go.
