Children really should be protected from this kind of manipulation. Contracts schmontracts. Adults know what they're getting into. Minors do not have the capacity to make that kind of decision, and virtually every Dance Moms alumnus has deep emotional scars as a direct result of being on the show. We have laws that prohibit minors from having a job, because that apparently protects them or something, but it's perfectly legal to let backstabbing TV producers drag them by the ankles through hell for the cameras, and they don't need to be protected from that at all. Talk about some fucked up priorities.

As someone who participated in SYTYCD I know EXACTLY what you mean with things being 'set up' to inflate a situation and cause chaos. They made people redo the walking up and down the stairs towards the staging area,'because the producer had to go'. When it was my time to walk up the stairs, I entered a dark room and was announced that suddenly I was next! I wasn't even given the time to tie the ribbons of my pointe shoes. So yeah, my audition tanked. When the audition aired, it was so different from the real thing. The audience were laughing, one judge called me a liar another one told me I should quit dancing altogether. It shocked me so much that THAT was how they made me look like a dumb airhead who was so full of herself. That night I changed my hair drastically and changed my name. Dance is my life! And I was afraid that THIS was going to be the end of me ever being casted in any production ever again. But I'm proud of you, beautiful girl! You are already making it and I am so sure that you can and will become an even bigger star. You don't need Dance Moms for that. Just be and stay the shining star that you already are. I actually liked you and your mom on the show. I never saw you as bad guys. Over time the other moms did end up showing a less than pleasant side. For future videos, many of you dancing, of course. I would also like to hear your mom talk about her experience on Dance Moms. I am a fan of you both.
@gdaym8y5 жыл бұрын
Yeah I never liked her mom a whole lot but I always felt like she wasn't trying to be mean - the producers didn't cut out the part where she tries to jump in and explain things, so I always took that to mean it was a misunderstanding and she just couldn't get a word in edgewise or we would know. It makes me feel so wise knowing I was "right" lolol XD

I am so happy to see you post this! You are so brave to have fought through all this drama and still be so sweet and nice! You are right. Dance moms is the worst representation to the point of a false representation of dancers like you, asia, sophia, kaylee quin and some of the amazing candy apples dancers like gavin and mckenzie. The producers manipulated the show and made u seem like a bad brat but they were the bad guys who edited to show so cleverly that it made so many dancers suffer hate from the dance moms community. Dance moms should not be associated the to real dance world. The dance world is 100 times better. I am glad that you are saying this so that more people might be convinced that screaming mums, rigged competitions and cheesy lyrical dances are not what the dance world is made of

My grand daughters have been dancing since they were three so I found the behind the scenes stuff interesting. Anyway, I’m happy to see you survived it all, and are completely sane and intelligent! I got to meet you and your mom at ALDC Pittsburgh Booty Camp after season 1 had aired! You and your mom are genuinely the sweetest family at the studio... I had made multiple visits to train at the ALDC throughout the summer growing up and you have always been the most genuine person from the show that I got to meet at the studio. Not to mention my mom had an awesome time talking to your mom at the studio. I wish you the best in LA you are an amazing dancer, I hope others take the time to consider everything you said in the video. After I actually got to train at the ALDC I sort of lost interest in the show to the point where I knew everything was set up and I knew everything wasn’t what it seemed on TV. As I said before, good luck you and your mama are awesome!

That editing thing is awful...I know it's true because they're NOT that great at actually tightening the edits. That's really terrible. I watched every episode of every season and honestly, you never ever came off as a villain...you were just older and more advanced. Even Abby (as rough as she can be) constantly praised you and blatantly told you it was your age and height, not your ability, keeping you from being a full time member. ugh...then they DID choreo that dance where you were actually "The Bully." I'm so sorry it comes off to painfully on your end. Honestly, from a fan's view...I can tell you it came off as a profile of a very talented teenage dancer with a great mom who would have done anything for her daughter. That being said...I wish you had left your original video up where you talked about your time on Dance Moms...you told an entirely different story and told it to us as the truth. SO, until this popped up, I was taking what you last said as the truth. See my issue? You praised Abby so much in the other video...this video seems much more authentic. So, to play devil's advocate...which is it?

My opinion on Payton has completely changed thanks to this video, I guess I was oblivious while watching the show and believed that Payton wasn’t a nice person but now I can see how much of a sweet person she is and she is so beautiful. I think it’s horrible that they would edit the things you would say and make it sound like you were saying something bad, it can greatly affect someone’s mental health because obviously there are gonna be a lot of rude people bullying her for what she does or says, also she was a teenager at that time and would of also been pressured at school making it even worse for the producers do that, but Payton is a very strong person for dealing with it

I'm so sorry they set you up like that. I used to work in tv production of "reality" tv and this is so spot on! It's crazy when you actually see what happens behind the scenes. No matter what show you're watching, none of it is real. Which kinda sucks but it's very true. When you see a random person on the street get pulled into something, they were hired to be there! On the show I worked on, I was in the "audience" or background so many times because they need people to fill it out. And even if it's something happening and you react, they'll still reset and have you do the same thing over and over again! It's crazy but that's so so true!

If people don't understand what Reality Television is, then they are naïve. Reality Television is for entertainment purposes, so behind the scenes, the producers are bound to attempt to create drama to help build ratings. Aw Payton this video was great. You weren’t rude or negative at all. I feel so bad about what you’ve had to go through. That show is so toxic. It kills me to think how much I love it when it’s caused so much damage to everyone who was on it. Even IF you did say that you were better than all the other girls, it shouldn’t have caused you so much hate. Kids say things without thinking them through and sometimes it comes out a way they didn’t mean it, or they didn’t think it would be that bad. I know you didn’t say it though. Anyways you’ve turned out beautifully :) I love you 🥰

This happens on almost every single reality tv show. Producers have every source of editing in the world to twist words and personalities. Whenever I watch reality tv and see a bratty or rude character, I’m always aware that it’s probably fake and they aren’t even mean in real life.
