May God bless your ministry and you bring more people to Christ. I like how this encourages others to engage in fact based or logic based discussions. But we must do it in charity. Our goal is not to embarrass or hurt but to bring others into the truth and to eternal salvation. The other point is that if God does not exist, then there is no truth. We are all blobs of random particles because life began out of nothing and our evolution is done by RANDOM selection as opposed to a God that intentially designs us with purpose and who has written his law on our hearts.

I ask some youth at our son's church three questions. None could answer them and none knew of anyone that could. "What is a belief, how do I have one, and how can I be sure that I am right?" If you believe in God with a passion, then you should know the answer to these questions with a passion. Other than that an evangelical endeavour is on the expectation that people believe what you say, because you do. Christian's have not understood Modernity or Postmodernity as alternate ways of thinking about ourselves and our world.

There are times when it is appropriate to say or discuss "this is only your - blank - " but then the blank has to be filled in with a term other than "truth", such as "this is only your understanding" or "this is only your best conclusion so far". It is good for us to question others with "Why do you believe that?" and "How did you come to that conclusion?", but also to ask ourselves the same, and be prepared to explain that to others. If the message we call the Gospel is something we only know to be true because a preacher that we like said so this past Sunday in a sermon, then we ourselves have to do some more thinking through the issues.

@anthonymorris5084 I really appreciate your comment - not because I agree with it, but because it made me go away and consider it. Having considered it, I would like to say that in one regard, you are correct. However, its important to explore the genesis of a belief (opinion). It is the more logical conclusion to see a higher intelligence/power behind the things we see in existence rather than to conclude chance or randomness is the driving force. I suppose humans look for a way to personify that higher power, and draw the conclusion of God. If someone holds an opinion or belief, its for that person to understand where that belief came from and what evidence it is based upon. It is important for that person so that they may be able to debate and defend their belief/opinion. So many neoliberal and postmodern beliefs/opinions are held by people with no evidence to support them..... and so they aggressively attack and silence their 'opposition'. Truth is defensible without linguistic gymnastics and circular arguments. Where as many of today's opinions and views are based on nothing..... what is a woman for example. Again..... thanks for your comment....... it wasn't intended for me, but it certainly gave me cause to pause and think.

Easy, in that it's true that among we HUMANS ( mortals) , alone, all we COULD have is our own perspectives of the truth. The truth as best we can know it. But we are body, mind AND spirit, and God's Spirit, His existence, His word, His truth ( the truth) resonates with us unless we talk ourselves out of it/allow ourselves to be, harden our hearts against Him. Then " for he who has not, even what he does have will be taken away" ( use it - vrs. ignore, quench, starve or deny it - or lose it) , in my perspective on that verse anyway, after being a believer for many years. Anyways, this IS where faith comes in. We know that man is fallible. Even the most agnostic amonh us tho, is very willing to accept many facts, and many near facts backed by really solid evidence, holding up over time. That creation had a Creator and that the Bible is His word to us, are reasonable "facts" of life, not a lot of faith needed for that, actually, once you really find out all about that &/or aren't indoctrinated out of the common sense off it. On faith, mainly the faith that is the Christian faith is actually not about believing there IS a God (that didn't used to be so unbelieved), but that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is He, and His promises are yes and amen. That if we surrender ourselves to Him, accepting redemption in Jesus, that Jesus paid it ALL, we will then be covered by His life & death/sacrifice AND become a new creation in Christ ( officially and Spiritually, physically to come soon !). Will be raised again, if we die before He comes, as Jesus was. Faith. Believing, based on more than reasonable evidence to, that God has said these things and does not lie. That John ch. 3 is for YOU. For "whosoever will". " Come, drink of the water of life freely".

It's just another 'sound-bite' that sounds like it means something important, but it doesn't mean anything. I suppose one could say a 'judgement' is a comparison between the 'Truth' and 'An Experience'. Without 'The Truth' there is nothing against which we can compare/discern/judge etc.

When someone says “that is just your truth”, the simplest response is to commenter is, “Is that true?” Inherent in the absurd comment on the claim to relativistic truth is primarily a self refuting appeal to absolute truth. The Post-Modernist rejector of God operates in God’s world and has no foundation on which to stand in discerning anything, because they have no fear of God and thus do not even have the beginning of knowledge. That is the absurdity of their worldview.

“Truth for all” is “objective” truth. It stands apart from personal perception and opinion. To state that a mechanical device that has 4 wheels, an engine, a steering wheel, etc is commonly referred to as a “motor vehicle” and have another counter “no that’s a mail box” runs away from common convention and understanding. Some might believe a mail box is a MV but that doesn’t make it objectively factual. Does it rain water or dogs? Does a rose bush yield roses or tulips? Is human life sustained by oxygen or xenon? There ARE external of the brain objective facts regardless of what a person may choose to believe. Religion is a belief largely void of fact especially its claims of the supernatural.

It’s a bit ironic for a Protestant to be talking about this. The fundamental doctrine of Protestantism says ‘you have the authority to discern what the Bible says’. Aka what’s true for you in the Bible is the truth. Hence why we have tens of thousands of Protestant ‘churches’ now. Just saying…

Not cringe. Your truth is developed by the Romanist magisterium. Your truth is, at its very core, solidified off of tradition primarily and not scripture. That's how Rome can hold to so many awful doctrines that clearly contradict the plan teachings of scripture. Furthermore, the whole denomination argument is fallacious. In man lies the error, not God, we can both agree upon this. But why hold men to such high regard to interpret scripture for you? This is double-mindedness. Scripture clearly voices itself, and says the Holy Spirit teaches us all things. The Holy Spirit convicts and guides us into all truth. Or do you believe He must have mere man's tradition to do so? Remember, just one of the many scathing rebukes from Christ towards the Pharisees and scribes was the elevation of their tradition. I will add to the former argument and point out that even Rome is guilty of non conformity. Let's not pretend Rome has been unchanged, the difference between Vaticans 1 and 2 are proof as such. The current pope is as ecumenical and liberal as any, many Roman Catholics can't stand him. But wait, I thought the pope was infallible? Even Gregory the first denounced the idea of a universal bishop, calling such an office "antichrist". And thus is the position of the reformers. I wonder, what does traditional RC dogma teach (hint: the pope is a fallible man, but is infallible when he speaks ex cathedra)? There goes that darn tradition again :) One last thing- the only schizmatic dog in this fight is always the romanist, as many Roman Catholics err when they assume the reformers broke off from Rome via Martin Luther. This is false, the truth lies in their name. They are called the "reformers" for a very good reason, as their primary goal was to reform and purify Rome from within, not split from it. They have made many statements as such. The main qualifier was that the pope should give up his silly hat and repent of his evil, and he would be received. Rome actually struck out with the excommunication of Luther, and ultimately the council of Trent, anathematizing the doctrines of the reformers, most notably with their perverse view of justification.
@TH3MANWITHAPERM Жыл бұрын
@@silasberdes6466 So many falsities in this and I cannot really by bothered to address every one of them. No, the Catholic Church does not promote tradition over scripture. Instead, the Catholic Church upholds the concept of "Sacred Tradition" and "Sacred Scripture" as two interrelated sources of divine revelation, both equally important in their own right. The Bible was not even compiled until 400 years after the death of Christ (compiled by the Catholic Church). Tell Sola Scriptura to the Christians of the first 3 centuries and they would have no idea what you are talking about. All they had was tradition. All your messy attacks at the Papacy and councils are just silly. Please actually study what the Catholic Church teaches and don't get all your information from random Prot preachers. Protestant Churches only go back 500 years. There were no Christians professing your beliefs for the first 1500 years of Christianity. Something to think about.
@gordoncrawley5826 Жыл бұрын
The biggest problem with Roman Catholicism is the Gospel, the core of what Christianity is built on. The bible says that the Gospel, is the power of God unto salvation, Romans 1:16, so it is an ultimate issue to be getting it very right. Even many Protestant Churches do not get it right, but the original Reformers did get it right. Luther and others argued with the RCC mostly over that primary issue. Luther was not looking to start another denomination, but was trying to reform what had become a very apostate church, by pointing out the serious errors in the theology and practices of the RCC. He was not the only one by the 1500's that could see that. Many people saw that things were not right, but the RCC had too much power over the people for them to say anything, you could lose your job in a heartbeat, or worse. Luther did not intend for his letter attached to the church door to go viral, but it did when a printer got a hold of it and printed many copies of it, that went throughout the lands. The printing press being newly invented, was used to print bibles in the common language of the peoples and they were reading it and understood for themselves, what Luther and the other Reformers were rightly saying. There is a whole lot that can be said, but I cannot write a book here and if I did, you would probably not read it, because you are confirmed in the teachings of your church. I cannot speak for all Protestant believers, but as for myself, I am not happy at all with the fact that there are divisions between us. But it is a fact in life that not all people, even Christians, see things the very same way. However, Christian Truth, is the most critical issue in the world, and we better be getting it right, because eternity is never ending. Truth is not found by having it shoved down your throat, it is found, like what the bible says, when you seek it out. If anyone is a lover of truth they will give an ear to what the other side is putting forth. I have checked out, and continue to check out, the RCC side of things, and find some good in it, but the things I keep reading in the God's Word, keeps contradicting what the RCC teaches and practices. PS Are you sure this "pope" you have right now is really Catholic? Protestants may have their "denominations", but there are many differing voices in the RCC and she is still splintering from within. Even this pope is not speaking for all Catholics right now, and many of the bishops and priests are not in agreement with him either. These are interesting times, as the culture is seeping into Christendom on all sides, eroding long held truths. Jesus said rhetorically, "when I come back, will I find faith on earth." Luke 18:8 True faith comes from hearing, and hearing the Word of God, Romans 10:17. It will be on that Word alone, that we will all be judged, not on what mere churchmen say is true.
