The Tunnel, The Mill & The Viaduct - A Disused Railway Explore
In this video you find me in the West Yorkshire Town of Halifax where we seek to uncover 2 lost Railway structures closed back in the 1960's
First up is Lee Bank Tunnel. 267 yards in length and mainly built from stone sections.
& on a curve & gradient too as it by-passes Old Lane Mill, a little bonus additon to this video.
We take a short look at Old Lane Mill from the exterior on ground level & from the drone. Almost 200 years old, this is the sole remaining building of a once huge bustling complex.
Our second piece of railway architecture comes in the form of the magnificent 200 yard long Wheatley Viaduct. Closed in the 1960s, access is now indeed very difficult. 100 feet at its highest point, the views either side of this curved railway viaduct are lovely.

Loved this vlog Ant. Enjoyable as always. Anything with a viaduct. Bit scary going in a tunnel. Fortunately, you had plenty of light & torches. A big thank you to Steve for the viaduct footage. It was great. Look forward to yr next vlog. Loved the out-takes at the end. 5***** must do more. Best wishes for this year.

The tunnel seemed in very good condition, Ant, seeing as the line had been closed for some considerable time. Amazing how it was warm inside, too. The mill is a grand building, made of stone and steel for such an early period, in fact built like a castle. It would be ideal for conversion to apartments or something. The viaduct, well that is remarkable, and Steve did a good job of doing a walk over. Great drone work you did of the area, and many thanks for doing this film.

Nice video. I used to live 200 yards further down from the tunnel, just where Ovenden station would have been, so was really interesting to see it on video. The viaduct I think was part of the halifax high level line, but tbh, it would have been more interesting if you have researched the local history and included that as part of your video as Halifax is littered with old railway lines that have long since gone.

I'm only guessing but I think The building you walked into at the old mill was probably a boiler house there would been to or three big boilers fed by a stream maybe from the mill pond there would have been high pressure steam lines that ran into the mill and was used to power the equipment and provide heating as well

Amazing video as always! Love the work that you do and the efforts you go to, you are appreciated by so many and very gifted at the work you do. I was wondering if you could do a video of the lost railway that ran between Morton and Stonebroom and on towards Shirland and Higham, all villages in Derbyshire and close to Morton Colliery. There’s an old railways line and embankment which I cannot find any information about and so would welcome any exploring you’re able to do on this. Keep up the great work!

There’s also the Morton Colliery spoil tip to explore that was used for pumping water from other local collieries and there were steps on the front of the tip and settling lagoons on top which can be seen, also some old colliery buildings survive

All of this is just 10 mins away from me! Great to see you exploring other parts of the uk! On the otherside of old lane bridge about 200 yards up still stands ovenden station building now used as a shed. Its on google maps a green building. So sad that the mill owners saw fit to remove all the windows to, no doubt, let the elements in to destroy the building to justify it's ultimate demolition "on safety grounds" rather than intelligently looking at repurposing the clearly robust building. No doubt in a few years the site will be cleared and some concrete and steel monstrosity, with no architectural merit, will be erected.
