I often hear complaints of how changed he seems, but people don't realize his new disposition ties to the fact that rather than simply run away, something he is fine with, Cloud goes in for the kill, which pissed Reno off and got his backup to actually put in an attempt to stop Aerith and Cloud of only because of Cloud's altered behavior. This time it really is personal.

The Turks and the wider Shinra network are actually the characters I'm most interested in seeing come to life through this remakes. The Turks (namely Reno/Rude but I liked Elena for comic relief as well) were among my favorite secondary characters. I always dug on their "I'm just doing my job" attitude and the way they acted while in Wutai during that questline. great video!

You know... I don’t get why a vocal minority of FF7 fans are so adamant about characters being portrayed EXACTLY how they were in the original game in supportive material. Don’t they want three dimensional characters and not carbon cutout archetypes? When I saw Reno and Rude in Advent Children I just considered it character development, the company they worked for is no longer a fascist pseudo-dictatorship and now they can lighten up a bit and be more themselves.

this is exactly it, people don’t seem to understand that events in the earlier periods of the timeline affected and helped characters to mature or change as people, but they don’t seem to believe in character development and just think it’s inconsistency 🤨🤨

Yeah, Reno literally says to rude at the beginning that they have a lot to make up for, and the general attitude of Rufus and the Turks is one of remorse and a desire to make up for what they’ve done. Idk why people take issue with that

"They're appealing precisely because they're ruthless etc" THANK YOU. I made this point on tumblr when the Ultimania guide came out stating that Reno has misgivings about Shinra's direction, and there seemed to be some celebration of this good-washing. It's so misleading, because no... he doesn't. Nothing in either the OG or the Remake gives that impression; in fact, it seems they've backtracked on Reno's character from AC to make him more ruthless, amoral, and-frankly-a bit unhinged. I was always pissed with AC because Reno and Rude (and Rufus for that matter) seemed so freaking out of character. I had pointed out that characters do not need to be boyscouts to be enjoyable, and the reason we loved The Turks in the first place was because of the criminal aspects of their behavior, and their moral ambiguity. They gave no f*cks, ever. I don't know why the developers felt the need to make Shinra sympathetic. We loved them as bastards.

Hmm, the Turks always interest me on how well they complement the Shin-Ra company. It gives us perspective on how the company really thrives, by doing dirty behind the scenes work rather than the good image that they set out to the public. Even though they do dirty work, the Turk members, I think they were all kinda fleshed out and we can see and understand on how each individual members work with each other. I'm always curious as to why there were not so many of the Turks that appeared in the original, even though the compilation has shown us that there are a lot of these guys. Then, I known about Before Crisis, and damn, a lot of these guys are pretty fun and interesting characters. Makes me feel interested on how upbeat Turk members such as Elena and Shotgun to an extent, want to even join this group. But, knowing about Before Crisis just picqued my interest toward this group as well. I wonder what will they do in the remake with old fans knowing that there's a lot of these guys running in the backgroud? Will they stay faithful or will they change? Since, Zack is one of the major changes in the remake, I wonder if the Turks will be more involved in the events or not. Then again, maybe it's just me that wants to know what Cissnei's real name is lol. Sorry if it's too long, just wanted to put out my two cents on the subject. Interesting analysis btw. Hope you improve more.

I have hope that theyll be faithful to the original in the remake because there is that clip of Cloud dressed as a woman, which they could have very easily cut. That shows me that there are certain aspects that they know are important to the feel of 7, so hopefully that will extend to the Turks too.

They mass slaughtered for a known corrupt, evil corporation not once thinking perhaps to join the party in helping people instead of serving Shinra. I heard people saying, "Well Shinra would kill them if they didn't do it." Well Shinra tried to kill Cloud and company too but they don't cower. Great characters but not at all likeable to me. Them and the SOLDIER core were trained and to make a life off their spec ops missions just like in real life. cloud and co. Killed thousands of grunts who had families and didn’t know how bad shinra was that’s the whole point of the game it’s not black and white it’s grey. Not only that they got everyone in sector 7 killed from the plate dropping because barret liked talking to the cameras and broadcasting rather than staying anonymous so it was easy to pin them for it only difference between the Turks and the party is a paycheck

I honestly think some new game... maybe a spinoff into it's own series... coming off of the Remake series, should be a game with the Turks as the main characters... not just here or there, like with Advent Children, and the like, where they mix in with Avalanche pre and post VII, but, a full series showing them personally after VII Remake, in their own full adventures, showing a redemption arc for them, with each game, as they try to rebuild the world into a better place... Reno and Rude as the mains, obviously, but with other Turks to join them as a third member before each chapter, or mission, that they can switch out after each mission is over... possibly with replayability for each mission, to see, "Or, this is how it could have happened...", so they can see how the mission would have gone with a different member, each mission having different components that would work, or, simply work better, with one Turk over another, and new dialogue for each one used. Elena with strength, endurance, and survivability over experience, with a mix of average melee, pistol, martial arts, and explosives attacks, the versatile member of the group, not great at any attack, but able to power through battles. Tseng as average in stats, but, high dexterity to hit and dodge, with strong unarmed martial arts and high tactical experience, possibly with the ability to use weapons like nunchuks, or average sized swords... compared to most seen in the VII series... for slightly better range, to increase his ability to hit and dodge attacks, at the expense of extra attacks per round barehanded, the FFI Monk/Black Belt of the game. Vincent Valentine, as he normally is portrayed, for strong long range attacks with his guns, and finding enemy weaknesses. Reeves, now in charge of the Turks, their moral compass in trying to keep them on the good path, even as anti-heroes, working from the safety of his office, while using Cait Sith in missions for hacking and support, both moral and functional. Possibly even finding new recruits for the Turks here and there... possibly one, or more, in each game, who could show up in future installments.

It'll be interesting to see the wider departments and relationships within Shinra, all we saw in FF7 was some Turks, some scientists, and a couple of SOLDIER (Cloud/Sephiroth/Zack). Crisis Core expanded on that a bit, but it'll be interesting to see the remake approach.

And, presumably, SquareSoft didn't make the Turks feel remotely close to anything Turkish (not even Janissaries or Nizam-i Cedid, but, of the two I would have preferred to base Turks on Nizam-i Cedid over Janissaries, because, even though both were elite Ottoman units when they existed, the Nizam-i Cedid wasn't nearly as politically influential as the Janissaries were) because the Turkish government might have been angry back when the original game was released...

i genuinely loved the depiction of them in the remake and the the re-cast, particularly reno. his old voice actor worked for the comic relief but now he sounds like the threat, a sinister side in his tone. the only thing i will nit-pick is i think they’d be better off giving him a bit more of a backbone as the second-in-command because he became a little too pathetic in remake so i really hope they keep the corneo drop.

This doesn't have anything to do with the Turks per se, but I'd be interested while you're in a mood around FF7, to see you do some videos about the wider parts of FF7, as in specifically Crisis Core or Advent Children. Might be there's not a terrible need for it, but I know that more than once you've said something about the non-core-game lore (like something about Zach from Crisis Core", and having not consumed (or at least not really understood) some of those pieces I'm just left thinking "Oh, okay, I guess -that_ thing happened there."
