A hauntingly atmospheric and star-studded adaptation of Henry James’ gothic horror story, published in 1898. This engrossing chiller stars Downton Abbey favourite couple Michelle Dockery and Dan Stevens, who play Matthew and Mary Crawley on the series. A young and inexperienced governess, Ann (played by Michelle Dockery) is hired to look after Miles and Flora (played by Josef Lindsay and Nicola Wallker), two small children abandoned by their uncle at his country estate following the death of their parents. Enchanted by the flourishing rural landscape and easy charm of the two children, Ann is at first happy in her new role. But things take a chilling turn for the worse when ghostly figures and strange noises and voices make her believe that something malevolent is stalking the children in her care. She becomes convinced that the two children are being influences by the ghosts of her predecessor, Miss Jessel, and her sinister lover Peter Quint, who both died under mysterious circumstances. But are appearances everything they appear to be? James’ novel is brilliantly brought to life in this evocative drama full of ambiguity, eeriness, and menace.
