THE TWENTY-FOURTH

At 4 a.m. on February 24, 2022, Russia launched a major offensive against Ukraine. Millions of Ukrainian citizens woke up to the sound of air raids, explosions and the noise of fighter jets. In a film produced by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (Foundation Office Ukraine, Kharkiv), five Sur Place Scholarship holders talk about their memories of February 24, 2022, their escape from Ukraine, their current lives and their hopes for the future. The film was produced by Iryna Riabenka and Olha Lykhnenko in cooperation with the film agency "ABOUT PEOPLE".
The video was completed on September 02, 2022. After the exchange of prisoners on September 21, 2022, Valeriia, our protagonist, learned from the released POWs that her fiancé, Yaroslav, was murdered in Olenivka prison.
