Something exhilarating about sailing in fresh cold water. Only sailed in Benmore, Opuha and Aviemore. Hope you have a spinnaker for the downwind run.

@@sublimesailingnewzealand5653 I haven’t been in in years but took 2 lasers in on standard laser road trailer a few times as far as loch Katrine. Apparently track from lake Taylor to LK improved since then. Yes need to take time and a shovel and right weather. I don’t think ever got yacht trailer stuck. Then you can sail from LK through canal. Just have to use your ears as the jet boats don’t know what 5 knots is and there’s only room for you or them. Also your mainsheet could get caught in gorse 😅 Definitely worth the effort, you won’t be disappointed.

Nicely done! Do you plan on doing any of the lakes single handed? Curious how difficult it is to sail and trailer the quest solo.

This was my first season single handling an RS Quest. I'm 68 and I won't say it's easy. I'm in good shape but it had been around 30 years since I had sailed. Besides your experience, a lot of the difficulty is dependent on your location, whether you moor or trailer, how quickly you need to get out away from other docks, the wind conditions, etc. I needed help raising the mast despite rigging a post at the front of the trailer with a pulley up high. I think with a bit more rigging, I could do it myself. It's just a bit unwieldy. I'm sure some folks can do it by themselves, but if it gets away from you, the damage will be done. Now as far as the sailing goes, as the summer progressed, I did a few tweaks as in replaced the jib sheet cleats with swivel cleats so that the ropes came directly toward me wherever I was sitting. The outhaul clam cleat should not be trusted and the outhaul should be tied instead or a cam cleat retrofitted. The outhaul failing resulted in my one flip. I had help from another boat to right her. Later I needed to clean the centerboard so I deliberately flipped and then righted with a rope tied around the mast draped over the hull. That's the technique to use unless you are very agile and stable enough to stand on the center board which, if you slip, you could hurt yourself. I've added a few more things on the RS Quest Facebook page so you might want to hunt that down. All that said, I did have some wonderful jaunts around Pickwick Lake in Mississippi.

Hey! Thanks, like Gary said, totally do-able to sail solo, but it's really designed for two or three. I suspect there'll be a few trips solo coming up for sure. 🙂

RS should be paying you guys for advertising their boats.
