Little late to the party, but wanted to share growing up going to the LLWS I always gravitated and hung out with the Japanese players, especially when I was the same age 11/12. I introduced the team at the time to sunflower seeds at the time. They saw American players eating them but never indulged & apparently they didnt have them in Japan at the time. Spitting or putting anything foreign on a baseball field is completely sacrilegious to them, which is probably why. They always bow to the field coming on and off as a ‘thank you’ for the field for allowing them to play/practice. Always have had the most respect while watching how they maneuvered playing the game of baseball (and probably the fact I was born decades after WWII)
