my understanding is that mushroom popcorn is used for caramel or cheese corn because it is more durable when stirred with the coating mixture unlike butterfly corn which crumbles into tiny pieces.

My experience with mushroom is you get a lot more hulls. Don't know how they get rid of hulls commercially, maybe tumble or stir it more🤔

Hi, why do mushroom popcorn have mushroom shape? Is it because of their composition, for example: they have less protein content? Or maybe a specific gene?

My understanding is due to the moisture content inside the kernel. It creates a larger explosion inside the kernel. I could be wrong though.

I believe a company I purchase popcorn from swapped popcorn vendors. It seems like the pericarp is gummy/chewing & is cause choking. Is it the pericarp that usually causes choking with popcorn? It feels like peanut hulls & I can't enjoy the popcorn as I did once before.

i was under the impression that field corn is used for animal feed and sweet corn is what is found in food stores.

field corn is used as animal feed but is also ground into cornmeal, it's also soaked in an alkaline solution to make hominy which is then dried and ground to make grits, or ground and mashed into dough to make masa which is used to make tortillas or tamales.

@@primalsnackco I bought some Perfect Pop and it was decent mushrooms and not overwhelmed with hulls, but it still wasn't that mushroom popcorn from a gourmet shop. I'm thinking there's mushroom popcorn and then there's a tier above that (or it's all the the cooking process) I used a good amount of oil and popped it at 425F...I've heard an air popper works good too, is that true?

Small bags of mushroom popcorn are grossly overpriced. They're total ripoffs. I'm happy with a gourmet-quality, yellow butterfly popcorn that comes in much larger bags. Not cheap, but it makes great caramel and cheese popcorns.
