The reason that the Aprilia Moto 6.5 looks unique when compared to Aprilia’s other bikes is because it was a one off outsourced design by Philippe Stark. He was a popular French industrial designer during that era and he was given design exercises far afield from his usual endeavors so Aprilia had him design a ‘city bike’.

The designer Philippe Starck is not a automotive designer and made something different. He managed to create a own line without that triangular front down plastic overkil that was initiated by Hans A. Muth with the BMW R100RS and the Suzuki Katana. That style went crazy and lead to the KTMs with their sharp design. so sharp you won't want to approach these bikes without protective wear. That actually appeals to a lot of people, not me.

I realize this list is subjective & the opinion of the poster, but we can all agree there are ugly motorcycles throughout the years. 9:15 I was sitting at a light in Vancouver in about 1979. A noise came up beside me. It was a HD model of some desperate alphabetical scrabble mistake. The rider was a long haired bearded hippy and his Ol' Lady perched on the back was a Twiggy look alike. The bike was loaded down with camping gear. It was mildly chopped with an extended springer fork. Buddy asked me if this was the road to the ferry terminal. I said it was. He thanked me and we pulled away as the light turned green. The bike was rust from top to bottom, fender to fender and rim to rim. Even the spokes were rusty. It had mud and dirt and shit on every surface. But it ran and sounded great. Rat Rod wasn't a thing back then. But if there was, this bike was the poster child. Best looking ugly bike I've ever seen.

Honda Pacific Coast @ 3:55 , i like the look of that bike, the body is fully enclosed, sleak & clean looking, beginning from the cover over the frontwheel, over the engine and all the way to the rear end. even that whiteish beige color a bit like mayonaise suits to that look well. nice round forms around the headlight and windshield. that whole bike looks just right. its in itself & for itself harmonic looking & well desgined, so i think that you can not really call that Honda Pacific Coast "ugliest". 7:24 now that looks like a design failure, like some part broke of below the case of the headlight, unharmonic for a bike, a bit like the head of a mantis (that insect). i like harley bikes, but that one, nah, not nice. i think that "aereal leader" (if i understood that name right) at 4:14 looks embarassing with that flat strange front around the headlight, but that is nothing like the round harmonic form around the headlight in the Honda Pacific Coast you compare that "aereal leader" to. 9:17 old "Indian Chief", that is so very americana, american history and it reminds native american culture, which is i think that "Indian Chief" is supposed to. why does it remind native american culture to me, is because those flowing lines of the fenders of that Indian Chief look calm & resting, like native american wisdom. i like that Indian Chief. maybe a native american person would disagree, possibly its my eurocentric cultured view to consider that "Indian Chief" look as reminding native american culture. how can you find that "ugliest", like what would go though your mind to find that "ugliest" ?? that BMW K1600 looks just fine to me, nothing wrong with that at all, similar the triumph in the end of the video. what is not so nice looking on that triumph bike are all those screws heads that stick out from the body, but thats a minor issue. that ktm i would agree, "crazy weird mask thing" 11:28, that form of the front fender looks totaly wrong and not belonging to that bike at all, like fish with chicken. the ktm designer must been fedup with work to put that mistake on that ktm bike. 5:03 i think that headlight suits to that bike, all together an ok look. what i like about the BMW K1600, Honda Pacific Coast and that Triumpf is, that the lower legs & knees have a part of the bike in front of them, that protects the legs. there were BMW bikes that had air ducts there that conducted warm air from the machine there, to warm the legs in colder weather, great for touring. i think that Honda Pacific Coast is the nicest of all these bikes, i would like one for longer journeys.

BMW has made a lot of ugly bikes, especially the newer ones, but by far the ugliest was the 1991 K1. For Honda, It is without a doubt the 2017 and up Rebels. I mean, there is ugly, and then there is UGLY. And the 2017 and up Rebels are without a doubt the UGLIEST motorcycles I have ever seen in the U.S. What the hell were they thinking? Yes, the Madura was not a pretty bike, but when it comes to downright ugly, that has to go to the early '80s Katana. That is what today is known as the Harley Road Glide, and that fairing is ugly. But the same bike with the Street Glide fairing on it is gorgeous. So it's just the fairing. To me (and I own a 1989 FXRS Low Rider) all older Harleys are beautiful. The Pan America and the Sportster are hideous. And Harley had ruined so many bikes by dipping the whole bike in matte black paint. I like bright shiny paint and chrome. Matte black looks like primer to me. It's just a big black blob. You can't see the lines. The Sportster Iron models are ridiculous looking. The ugliest Yamaha would have to be the early '80s Vision 550, or the early 90s GTS1000 with the RADD front end. The ugliest Kawasaki has to be the Vulcan S, which is a close second behind the 2017 and up Honda Rebels. I like all the old original Indians. The first Indians that Polaris came out with were. They strongly resembled the original Chief, with that big full front fender. Then came the Scout, which looked like some kind of industrial machine. Super ugly. Then they totally destroyed the Chief, they don't even have that beautiful front fender anymore. And they have started the YBOB thing (Yet Another Blacked Out Bike) The blacked out fad has gone far enough. It needs to go away, and go away NOW. That Triumph looks a lot like a Buell, all of which were ridiculously ugly. But besides the bikes I mentioned above, perhaps the ugliest bikes of all is every single crotch rocket ever made. Every one of them is disgustingly ugly. These bikes started in 1985, with the Suzuki GSXR, and the Kawasaki Ninja 600 and 900, and they have been getting uglier and uglier ever since. Not to mention the are virtually unrideable with bars that feel like they are attached to the front axle and footpegs where the rear turn signals should be. Basically, 99% of the time, the newer a bike is, the uglier it is.
@curtislynch81892 жыл бұрын

I have wondered if a lot of design has been influenced by some of the graphic art in Japanese manga - all that spiky hair and angular everything. Perhaps I'm just a wet blanket on modern taste. (I still think a 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint is the prettiest Alfa ever made.) And why is it that many of the flagship cars and SUVs of today have to have those enormous teeth, like some horrifying, monster fish that lives at the bottom of the Mariana Trench? What happened to fluid lines, proportion, or even a union of form and function like your Triumph 500?

I got a 2008 Versys 650, it looks horrible if you stand in front of it or look at the front from a certain angle... but the side an rear view is great. Never bought a bike by to looks, the versys is my swiss knife or do everyrhing bike, plus its fuel efficent. I absolutly love it. Expect that fugly headlight.

Honda DN wasn't that bad. It got use in as a cool bike for a TV show in Kamen Rider Decade. Though I am surprise that older gen Suzuki Katana didn't got in the list.

Oh yeah, KTM excels in awkward; like beginner origami. But I love the Aprilia 6.5... I think it's stand-out-from-the-crowd flowingly gorgeous. But then, I love the Bus too for its (voluptuous) curves. It's a shame about the Triumph Trophy 1200. Not sure what they were thinking there. I own a 2014 Sprint GT and I think it's a handsome fellow. Nearly as good-looking as the old Honda Super Blackbird, which is timeless to me.

I can't believe you went with the K1600 rather than the R1200CL. But watching more of the video I see you just don't like touring bikes. Almost every one of these is either touring oriented, or you don't like the headlight. Or both.

I gotta disagree on the K1600-series BMWs... to me, by far, BMW's most egregious styling and design fubar was the early 2000s (roughly 2004) R1200ST. Google it to see of what I speak. This monstrosity had vertically stacked headlights that would have scared children if they saw it coming at them. Otherwise a fine bike, like all BMW boxers, but this was a hideous styling exercise gone all wrong. IMO, today's K1600s are fine art, by comparison. Love the video, though!

I totally agree, the K series bikes, especially modern ones, are easy on the eyes. Sorry, but the video way missed the mark when it comes to BMW. Nothing uglier in their line-up than the R1200C cruiser. I know the bike was featured in a Bond movie, but that was probably to boost sales number... to no big success. Because the damn thing is too weird looking!

From its inception the first-gen Ducati Multistrada had a love/hate relationship with the public. It's unconventional styling was shunned by many, even as the 2007-09 models were routinely heralded as a tremendous all-rounder. I purchased an '09 1100S in 2014, picking it up in Raleigh, NC and riding back to Dallas, TX. What the air-cooled L-twin lacks in HP it makes up for with tremendous torque and a relatively light gross weight. Coupled with Ohlins & Brembos and lacking electro-sensors, the rider feels very "connected" to the bike. The maligned yet majestic Multi can hang with sportbikes in the twisties while knocking-down 500+ miles a day and not leave the rider aching. One subjective advantage to questionable styling: exclusivity. My Multi almost always draws a crowd, even among bike enthusiasts.

Got a 2004 1000DS. Absolutely love it for the reasons you listed and more. Great for two up road-trips too. Draws a crowd every time too! So many say it was the one bike they regretted selling! Never selling mine…

The Honda PC800 Pacific Coast was a beautifully styled tourer for its time and its sculpted lines are still easy on the eye - particularly to the non-riders who don't find it “intimidating”. Another aerodynamic design was/is the H-D Road Glide. Its “shark-nosed” fairing made it a great long distance tourer that was easy to do “Iron-bottom” (1K miles or more) runs on. Ironically, many non-riders would mistakenly refer to my two CVO Road Glide Limiteds (FLTRUSE) as “Gold Wings”. I generally agree with you on the “sport tourers” and their styling over the past several years. When I finally broke down and got an actual “Gold Wing” it was a 2018 model year, the one where Honda unfortunately decided to go “Sport Touring”. Yes it was ugly and its fairing was next to useless - I wish Vetter was still around so I could have replaced it with a more effective one. Lastly, Indian's Chief Vintage valanced fenders flow along with the rest of the traditional lines of that bike, recreating the characteristic charm of the 1930's era American motorcycles. Of course I've only been a rider for 60 years - so whadda I know?

I thought you might include the Cagiva Gran Canyon, I got one ten years ago super cheap because it was considered such an ugly duckling at the time, I didn't care too much because I'd ridden one and they are awesome to ride, great sound and feel, it is a slightly weird looking design when you get off it I must concede. Not nearly as bad as that travesty of a Multistrada though. But hey, from the sounds of it, the multi rides bloomin' great also.

Normally I hate people like you with their subjective criticism. But Dude! you totally and with 100% accuracy nailed each one of these😂 Your descriptions were so spot on! I’m only halfway through at this point, & I’ve laughed myself off the couch! The descriptions- wow! “ looks like somebody put a balloon inside of a sport bike and blew it up and then nailed a scooter rear end onto it”, haha !! or that MV with the square headlight. Odd looking yes,, but then you come paste some meme of an old halogen Home Depot work lamp.. lmao 🤣 😆 fkg perfect son!! The soda sprayed right out of my mouth! Great job!!

Agreed, the stupid trend in touring bikes is to make a huge gap between the fender and the fairing. Its super ugly, they just need to make a larger lower fairing. Will probably help with gas mileage too. These are touring/adv bikes, its not like they need a foot of travel in the suspension. Not sure why designers never figured this out.

The PC800 is a fantastic bike. I rode one for about a year. I don't think it's right to compare it to other bikes it is so unique. It is odd looking but has a certain charm. The "Eye Abuser" is widely considered to be awful looking, but it's a wind tunnel design, what can you do, I would own one.

The Pacific Coast, was for people that don't ride, wanted a motorcycle, but without being "a motorcyclist". It was a smart, comfortable, useful design that appealed to bean counters, NASA scientists, and real estate agents. On the Pacific Coast, no one saw you as a rider with a bad attitude, nor a speed freak, nor a 50 to 60 year old "touring" guy to accomplish his bucket list, across the United States. For its day, it was a very thoughtfull, non threatening way, for people to ride. Remember, this is during the same age, as all computers being beige.

When you talk about Design(!), you must consider other aspects as "I don't like it". The Augusta with the square lamp and the yellow/silver Aprillia are good examples. Both designs are outstanding, and both will find their place in the best museums of this world.

My last bike was a BMW K1200RS. Not a particularly handsome machine, but wow was it a great ride. In the middle of one trip I spent about half an hour at 135mph going down the A303 in the south of England, ...steady as a rock. The bike had more, ...I did not! :)

I always saw the HPC as a cross between a motorcycle and a scooter. It came out when Honda and others were making some big scooters, so it was the next step up for scooter riders.

Man that KTM 690 really takes the cake. How did that get past focus groups? Also, I think I know why sport tourers are ugly. They’re trying to make a big, comfy, stable bike seem small, aggressive, and maneuverable. End up with a “lipstick on a pig” situation where they just cram a huge 4banger in it to make it fast and call it “sporty”, and then try to hide all of the toury stuff behind a sport bike look and it just doesn’t hide well.
