reason i started minimalism was i found out how peaceful it felt when there's less stuff around you. It also clears your mind and gives you more focus, energy on doing the things you love. It also helped me simplify my daily routine like choosing what to wear for the day. Minimalism also made me see the value of some of the things in my life that I took for granted since I no longer have a lot of distractions. I am far from perfect but this is a journey and not a destination. Let's start 2021 as a year to better ourselves. Love from West Australia!

Hi, I am from Malaysia. I started minimalist lifestyle since 2 years ago, because I love simple life. I started decluttering unused things from my room. I cherish quality more than quantity, and emphasize on value in every expect of my life, including habits, routine etc. It goes together with Buddhism teaching, wabisabi, zen, etc. So, i feel really great so far. Love your speaking.

hello! I stumbled upon your capsule wardrobe video and subscribed to your channel RIGHT AWAY! I myself am in a transition period of my life and decluttering has been essential. I've started this shift because I partially inherited my grandmothers house. My grandma, from the Depression Era, has kept EVERYHING that came with the house. It has been a beautiful experience going through and sorting all of her things. Learning how to be more minimalist has really helped me put into perspective all the things I DON'T NEED to be happy. Thank you for your videos, in a weird way, they feel like declutter-therapy and help me to keep on track. ♡♡♡

You are a very nice direct person. Funny about plants: I decided to go head first into minimalism because I wanted more time to spend caring for my plants and a lot less time sorting, putting away and cleaning objects, yes my plants come first. I was born in Scotland, lived in London and then moved to Rome where I finally established part II of my life plan which was becoming a doctor.I’m still very busy working but now able to set aside time for myself leading to a very new sense of stillness and peace, I loving driving into the country with my classic sports car .. whenever possible, love travelling and curious about people and their lifestyles. Your channel is my most favorite one now. Thanks for recording this video with your personal Q&A. It makes me feel you are my friend now, haha. I don't know how KZbin lead me to find your channel but it seems that we have a lot in common. I was born in Korea and lived and educated in Seoul, Vancouver and Mexico City. I settled down in Seoul and stayed there for 25 years. As the pandemic hit Seoul, I escaped from the city life and move to the small Island in South Korea. Still I need to learn more about the rural life but I am so satisfied with the simple and slow living here with my family.

Seoul seems so fun, flashy and glam, but the rural life is more what I enjoy too

I started living the minimalist lifestyle since 2003 when life sprung on me that I had to accept I was going to be moving into living out of my car. And I had no idea for how long. The first time was almost for a year (10 months) but it turned out to be a positive experience and found out a lot about me and some of my very good friends that I still have today. I had to let go of everything I owned except for 6 storage bins that a friend made space for me in their garage and what I kept in the car trunk. And eight years later I had to move into my car again for a second time, about 8 months that time. (Cali is so expensive) Of course I have accumulated again over the years how much I own but I have always had the minimalist mindset to question why I am keeping things and have shopped 2nd hand first since 2005 :) I can say that at least 80% of my wardrobe has been thrifted all of my adult life, and now I love that I can find such quality brands so easily on Poshmark. Actually it's gotten a little addictive during the pandemic ;) wink ;) but I have always been a camping outdoorsy person. So when I get back out into Nature every time it provides that reminder of how little we really need to live :)

Hey Sophie! I loved how you opened up about up your life! You definitely have a lot going for you, and it’s been kind of a puzzle trying to figure out how you got to where you are. This really helped! I had to chuckle when you said that you talked to your husband about a lot of things! Gayle does the same thing to me, which is great, but sometimes it’s too many thoughts too quickly. Often I don’t absorb everything she saying, especially if I’m deep in my own thoughts. So many times I have to put up my hand and say “ Hold those thoughts for a sec, I’m thinking out something else right now.” I know I do not verbalize as much as she does, and it frustrates her, as I keep to myself too much. It’s really funny how you can think the same way as your spouse most of the time, but then there’s other times when you think quite differently. That’s a real strength because it’s true “ two heads are better than one”. This is especially true for really tough problems that arise. It’s a good feeling when your spouse knows you and you can come to an agreement!

One thing I would love to see is a before and after video. I feel like so far I’ve only see the “after as a minimalist” state. What was your life like before?

Your videos really inspire and motivate me a lot. I'm a minimalist newbie and so far it's been great. Keep it up, Sophie! More power to your channel! I'm so lovin' it. You can say that I'm hooked! Hehe..😉

Congrats Sophie on 10k again. It's really early to move to Hawaii at 25 :) Impressed! I'm a bit surprised on the list of minimalism creators you like, because some of them is so so to me. You are much better haha... Can you also talk about how you grow from 1k to 5k subscribers? It feels really hard for me to take it to the next step.
@MalamaLife4 жыл бұрын
Ashley! thank you so much for watching. These are the channels that inspired me to start my own channel. Even if I don't watch all of their videos now, there is a memorable video that stood out to me :) Looking back at my analytics, what really helped me grow from 1k to 5k was one or two of my videos. All I can do is post twice a week, be consistent in my video style, research topics, strategically tag and leave the rest up to the algorithm. Do you watch @vanessalau? her videos on growing youtube helped me a lot to understand. I hope this is helpful
@TheKrazyKoala4 жыл бұрын
@@MalamaLife oh thanks for the tips. I will check out venessalau. i haven't. I think for all of us to get to next step, it's always 1-2 videos. For me, it's the Bhutan and Singapore videos. but it cannot sustain. It only gets me to monetization. but that's it. how do you strategically tag? and how do you identify the topic? Some people said "i invented" new market (new topics), which no people searched. Do you create your own topics or follow other people's topics?

Im planning to move to HAwaii in 2 years. Ive been planning this for a few years now.Just like you you,I want to save enough money where I dont need to work for 6 months to get adjusted with life in the Island. I will be moving from NYC where the living expense is about the same. My daughter and I travel to HAwaii whenever we can.Hawaii is my happy place. I hope she decides to move later to the islands too after she experience life on her own here in the city. Thanks for all your videos, I am a minimalist to some extent and I do want to continue living that way. It's very peaceful and less stressful.

Hi Sophie! I love all of your shared experiences. I was wondering about your experiences working for a nonprofit and how that relates to your slow living. I am about to graduate and I hope to work for a nonprofit while aligning myself with my own personal goals for how I live. Thank you so much!

Oh wow, you have lived in a lot of places! I have a big smile on my face when you mentioned that your parents call you to tell you when they've been decluttering. My mom does the exact same thing, when I mentioned some vegan food thing or a KZbin thing she gets really excited and needs to tell me about it...it's adorable. Yeah I totally understand the social pressures of keeping up with the Jones...I've felt it all my life. But time and time again I've found that when I do things that are true to myself, I feel much much better and retrospectively know that I made the right decision. So it gets easier. This was a very nice video, always great to know other people and KZbinrs lives and lifestyles. Well to answer your questions, I'm from New Jersey, but live in North Carolina. I don't know if there is any one unique thing about me, but I have a Ph.D. in Chemistry (for what it's worth), and I think I've always been a minimalist (or tried to adhere to a minimalist lifestyle and ideology) since I was really young, but I never really knew it was a thing. Anyway, this comment is really long. I look forward to seeing you in the next video, congrats on 10K subs! Like- 287

Hahaha aww moms are truly the best! that is cool to hear that you are able to share your journey with your mom as well. Also, I think you mentioned in your videos that you are a scientist and always wondered what you do outside of KZbin :) having enough interest in one subject to pursue a PHD is both admirable and unique in my opinion. Yes I love slowly getting to know the creators through their videos. It helps me to understand the content better as well. Thank you so much Alex! you are awesome
