I have just been given the task to create 401 and 404 pages in my internship. The video could not have been uploaded at a better time 😁

This is really helpful. Like knocking on the wrong door, but the resident patiently directing you to the correct one.

Love your examples - i feel having a 404 page is a lot more comforting rather than just a broken link or a button with no destination.

Next thing should be: How to implement good sdearch bar. Because what I have realized is, that while searching is probsably the most efficient way of getting anywhere on a new page, it is also the most misunderstood tool on any home page. Even on corporate sites, their search tool really suck. I learned back in the days, that the way to do navigation is not equal among users. Some are minded on the menu, some are minded on filtering in the side bar, others do search. I think it was Nielsen+Norman who did the research and already back then found that searching is completely misunderstood by almost anyone. With a good filter *_built into the search_* you can navigate only using search. You do not need the menu bar or the bread crum or side bar links. Take an online store for example. If you can use search like in google to find your item, then why use anything else than search? And YET, these companies continue to disregard it. Even miscrosoft asre horrible at it.

Damn, never thought a video on page 404 could be this informative. Thanks a ton _/\_

I've never seen a UI/UX vid/article about a 404... way to go on creating unique content!!! (how much time did you to come up with the idea?)
@DesignCourse3 жыл бұрын
My discord server gave me the idea. Rather, people IN my discord server did. ;)

I really like how you address something specific like this with a design approach. Thanks for that. I wonder if you could do more things like this. For example: a complex form page (incl fieldsets, tabs etc...)

I always include links to the Home Page and to a Service/Products Page. If a super brand-centric client, I'll link to the About/ Culture page

As long as you don't produce a "404 Not Found" page with an HTTP 200 header, you're not failing.

Anyone ever notice that Jon Frok and Gary are never in the same room at the same time? 🤔🤔mmmmm
@olekristianmller-hansen42203 жыл бұрын
Completely agree. It's not like you would design a page that says "200! This page exists." for a valid page. Why should a page that collects invalid URL requests randomly betray all UX principles?

Finally someone thinks like me .. I never do this big 404 number, this only can be good for ui design portfolio or something but not in real website which deals with people who don't know ui design or don't know what is 404 or 503 etc .. I also has the same opinion of it should include 1 DESCRIPTIVE sentence , WTF is "there nothing here" LOL

Hi Gary, I have a question. I started my UI/UX classes at uni and we did a quick textbook lesson about “boolean attribute”. I’m confused exactly of what it is. What’s the purpose of it? When should it be used? I’m still not sure exactly what it is. I asked the professor and still lost and I tried googling it and no luck. I kind of need someone to ‘dumb it down’ for me or ELI5. (: Have a great day and thanks in advance!
