Loved the show everyone! In case you wondered - I absolutely LOVE ❤ the pre-amble with the beers 🍻, the charts and the context behind the weekly pick. For some of us - we really dig the rapport, the 'banter' and the exchanges you all have - as colleagues, friends and music lovers. It's 'sound as a pound' - as we say in #Liverpool !!! Never been a massive fan of Marillion but this has inspired me to revisit! 🎉

I saw Marillion live for the first time aged 14 on the Real to Reel tour where they played the first half of Misplaced Childhood. It sounded good but no one could have predicted how popular it was going to be. I live a 20 walk from De Montfort Hall so go to the Marillion Weekends whenever I can.

Oh what a fantastic choice, Fellas. Truly one of the all time GREATEST concept albums ever made, in my opinion. A gathering of guys that were all completely on the same wavelength as each other, at (arguably) an artistic/creative peak.

Great video gents, hope you're all well! This is an amazing album, when I started buying second hand vinyl in the mid 90s this was one of the first I got, 50p well spent! So on to my ranking, this was hard I love the entire thing... 10. Lavender 9. Pseudo Silk Kimono 8. Kayleigh 7. Bitter Suit 6. Heart of Lothian 5. Childhoods End 4. Lord of the Backstage 3. Waterhole 2. White Feather 1. Blind Curve. If i was to rank this again in a month or so the order could be very different.

Evening chaps! Great show again. My favourite Marillion album has always been Clutching At Straws. However, when I've went back to Misplaced Childhood I often only played Side 1, now I much prefer Side 2! It's weird how your tastes change over time. Fish's lyrics are a tad pretentious but I just go with it. It's an absolutely crackin album! Heard it a million times but still love it. Cheers guys, Graeme from Greenock! 🍻

Great album and one of my all time favourites. I was 16 in 1985 so reminds me of my adolescent years. Never thought of it as a album of individual tracks but rather an album that should be listened to in its entirety, a bit like Floyds DSOTM

Thoroughly enjoyed the show guys 👍and thoroughly enjoyed rediscovering this wonderful album. Been listening to it the past couple of days on my original vinyl release and it sounds fabulous! My ranking - 10.Lords of the Backstage 9.White Feather 8.Waterhole (Expresso Bongo) 7.Childhood`s End? 6.Pseudo Silk Kimono (such a wonderfully haunting intro to the album) 5.Bitter Suite 4.Blind Curve 3.Lavender 2.Heart of Lothian 1.Kayleigh - Easy to tire of songs that are overplayed on the radio. However, going back to listening to the full version on vinyl reminded me of how good it is and why I am still very fond of it. Annoyingly the version on the radio is the 7" version which cuts short the guitar solo but on the album you get the full version. It was soooooooo good to have a song so high in the chart back then by a band like Marillion. That sort of thing doesn`t happen every day and I`m very glad it did happen. I nearly put `Heart of Lothian` at no.1 but through loyalty of how much I enjoyed it at the time and the sterling work the song has done all through the years by flying the flag for Marillion and Neo-Prog (sorry Simon!🙂)I went with `Kayleigh` for my number one. Many thanks for choosing this album to rank as I don`t think I`ve enjoyed a revisit on any other albums you`ve covered more than I have on this one.

Oh yes, sentiment for me. Saw them performing it live as part of the Welcome To The Garden Party tour (I think it was called), June 19 1986 in Rotterdam Netherlands where I live. Since I discovered SOT the biggest compliment I can offer is that it has pointed me in the direction of albums and artists that I would not normally have discovered. This was an album I bought back in the day, more out of curiosity/thinking I was missing out on something. I have to be honest and say I didn't really get it then (I can't have played it more than 6 times) and listening now, noting the pop genius/beauty of Kayleigh, I still don't really get it - but that's ok because I gave it another go. I remember seeing Marillion at Monsters of Rock in 1985 and being just as nonplussed. None the less an entertaining show and remember; "stay out of the black and in the red, there's nothing in this game for two in a bed...listen to Tony"

Music is OK, I struggled with the vocals, but you know what, it doesn't matter because it was the wrong record (the Jester one)! Round two: Marillion - Misplaced Childhood 1. Kayleigh 2. Bitter suite 3. Blind curve 4. Childhood’s end 5. Heart of lothian 6. Waterhole 7. Lavender (dillydilly?) 8. White feather 9. Lords of the backstage 10. Pseudo silk kimono

Too difficult because every track has it’s place, but thought about using the hat to draw them, then thought I’ll pick them on mentions of places I know.Turns out when you listen not as many ‘songs’ mention places as I thought. So I did it properly knowing if I did it again it would be different. 1 Blind curve 2 Bitter suite 3 Heart of Lothian 4 Kayleigh 5 White feather 6 Childhoods end 7 Waterhole 8Lavender 9 Pseudo silk kimono 10 Lords of the backstage

Enjoyed this episode. Re Pseudo Silk Kimono: I do love it. Yes it's a bit melodramatic, but it's mysterious, hinting at weighty themes to come. It's an overture to a great piece of work, and segués beautifully into Kayleigh. That's my take on it, anyway.

And here I've been watching Golden Girls on Disney+ for two years now, never gets old...! Family Ties was shown in Finland, my best friend and I had a bit of a crush on Michael J. Fox back in the mid 80s, hahah. Thanks to this episode of The UK Connection I have now finally listened to Misplaced Childhood *hides under a chair* I just never got around to it! Very Genesis. The only song I knew from it was Kayleigh which I even had dubbed on a tape back in 1987, always loved it, remember seeing the music video for it plenty of times on Sky Channel and Music Box, but from hearing the record only a few times as of now I can't rank the rest of the songs at all... Pretty nice record though.

If you are going for New Belgium beers, Pete, I would strongly recommend Trippel or Honey Trippel. They taste about the same, but the Honey is about $4 more for six. Excellent copies of Belgian Trappist beers, but probably closest to Gordon's Gold, a Scottish beer made in Belgium and unobtainable outside that country.

When i heard Kayleigh I couldn't believe what Marillion had done so I never bought the album and moved on musically. I always liked Fish and became really interestd in the new Marillion who unlike Genesis were just as good but different without him. Post 2000, I came back to to Misplaced Childhood and skipped Kayleigh to find an otherwise superb album. One day, I really listened to the album end to end and got it. Kayleigh as a single i am afraid mighht be a great track for the masses yet cheesy but in context of the album it fits perfectly and is essential. I now see it in a new light and the album is even better for it. This is a class album almost from cover to cover. Those wasted years what a fool ive been.

Still only my 3rd favourite Fish-era album (Behind CAS and Fugazi...yes, I know I'm in a minority of 1 there, but I'm used to that...). We clearly need to get Uncle Simon more fully aboard the Marillion train though, could HIE be considered AOR/Melodic enough to fit into one of those shows somewhere down the line?
