I own the 350z and I love my car. But, I have to respect the S2000. I think they're both great cars.

@tw06le s2000 and most hondas are crazy in tight turns, just needs a lil more power...amuse did a great job on that z to fend off all the others and just as fast in the s-turns as the honda and heavier

it seems harder to make a higher power to displacement ratio as you increase the displacement of the engine. the f20/f22 can only get so far with n/a. but you have to remember that the s2000 engine comes outta the factory pretty maxed out. love both cars!!

good choice,tough choice,v6power in the z33 vs high rev superb handling in the s2k cr. Im not sure which car I would choose.Driven both and s2k had better feel especially around corners but the Z33 definitely has more punch.

as a nissan fan and owner of a Z33 and s13 , i would agree that the s2k is in a class of its own. its just just a pure sports car in every since. i dnt believe nissan has really ever built anything to compete with the 2sk. s-chassis is a different type of monster. also s2k has forged pistons i heard. and the VE is pretty high stock just a great car i never compare only respect it

S2000 and 350Z, apples to oranges? NO WAY! They are the same exact idea transferred in different ways. They have very similar power to weight ratio. The difference is, the S2000 is much more nimble in the corners, but the 350Z has the torque to pull it out of the corner. With the S2000, you have to use the cars momentum to get it around a track. The 350Z style is to point it where you need it and hit the gas. The torque of the 350Z translates better on the street than the S2000, it feels faster.

I love all the fighting about which car is better. They are both phenomenal and anyone who posts that one is better than the other is just a fanboy hater. As for the results of this race, 15/100th of a second is the difference of driver skill, not machine superiority as the said fanboys will have you believe. Tsuchiya rarely loses.

@Gred922 in part 1/2 of this series, they said that they kept the Amuse s2k with its previous Touge settings (for tight turns, hairpins, chicanes, S turns etc).. that last long uphill straight was where the Amuse Z, stood any chance of creating some type of lead.. which wasnt very much if u look at each cars best lap

i think it is more because they are rwd coupes from the same time and same price. where i live, you can get a ap1 or a pre facelift/vq35de engine 350z for around 10 or less of they are in normal condition while an ap2 or facelift/vq35hr 350z for around 15-17 grand

@XenomorphLV426 The SE-R has a %25 larger engine, which is also undersquare. And because of this the Tq and Tq per liter are higher. And the opposite for the Square (or slightly oversquare) S2000 engine. The HP per liter, and the overall HP is higher than that of the SE-R. Its basic physics, and a known compromise between high-reving oversquare vs low-reving undersquare.

@XenomorphLV426 the 6k vtec engagement is for economy/ mpg... u stay under 6k u dont waste as much gas... once u hit 6k rpm, vtec stays engaged as long as ur mashed on the throttle... there are also ways to tune/lower the stock vtec setting just as with other hondas.. but how many stock se-r's have a 9k redline #LOL

@NSX86R True i had a 2002 S2k with a greedy turbo and while it was fast and nible i just couldn't do everyday things that i needed to do. I had to end up getting rid of it. As a secobnd car in the garage to mod it is amazing but as a primary mode of transportation its not so conveniant

@Ellisinho9 Hondas deployment of variable valve timing predates that of Nissan by several years. Ditto for the production of the engines in the video you mentioned.

No it doesn't. Nissan was the first manufacturer to put it in a road car, they beat the Honda by 2 years, 1987 vs 1989. VQ series engine debut in 1994, F20C was years later.

@ambientflier, power dont matter if your car weighs a ton...on a track, power to weight ratio reigns. Eitherway, this 350z was nice. I still would choose the s2k for keeping up that Close.

And I would like to add to your comment. How so do we go about doing this math? for starters the size of the motor is a variable not the equation. add in gearing perhaps, tire size rotation weight overall ground traction in a torque straight/corner, curb weight, balance, air resistance and drag (@ certain speeds) braking, center of gravity, oversteer/understeer and its relation with the chosen motor/weight. But I am sure you know more about this than the professional teams behind the vehicles

@BlueMetalS2k Um...when Honda makes a V6 that makes 350hp and 276 lb-ft n/a, let me know...Why would Nissan worry about maxing out a 4 cylinder when they can get high hp AND torque by using a V6?

Power to weight were evenly matched. The torque made the difference in a high speed track. The Z can be faster in the corners with 285 in the front.

@tw06le not true...it's under powered and eventually with a decent driver the Z will over take it, it does'nt shift faster...that would be driver error

Thats precisely why the S2K kept up. Awesome car no matter what anybody says. Oh! N the car is not maxed out! You can always go turbo and max out @ 800hp 8) saw one on youtube.

@rondar2 They already make a V6 to compete with nissan. It's the 3.7 in the new Acura TL, and it's inferior to the Nissan 3.7 in the G37 by 25hp.

My point is these two cars are not even in the same category. You've got a small purpose made convertible sports car with a small high-revving engine, and a mid sized luxury/sport hybrid type with 2 extra cylinders and 1.5L more displacement. I get that peple compare them because they have similar straight line performance but they are not even close to being related

@DcEvoIX im not sure.. im with you about tsuchiya's driving skill, but in this race you can clearly see the power advantage... they were both driving good. take this battle to the touge and the z33 will loose because there is not enough straights to pull away.

@icandangle Wow you really dont know the potential of the Nissan Sentra SE-R. put just an intake on and it runs in the 14s. Auto-x it keeps up with many cars. Just a couple of weeks ago at an auto-x event, a Sentra SE-R was battling it out with a Ferrari 360 spider for position on times.

In Japan, did they only utilize the 2.0 displacement motor? I wonder if the extra 0.2 liter displaces in the AP2 US version with the same mods would have changed the outcome

S2000 is smaller and lighter than a Z, hence it doesn't need as large of an engine. Convertibles Z's are even to an S2K, while the hardtop ones are faster.

Nissan can create a high revving, high compression 4 cylinder if they wanted but they chose to go the V6's for their performance cars. I find it disgusting that Honda makes a 4 cylinder and actually prices higher than the Z.

not in japan based on my knowledge. from what i remember is that honda just upgraded the torque and stuff but kept it 2.0 but i could be wrong

I have a JDM S2000, its a very good car, for a na engine car it has the most hp in the world, stock that is.

@IAmTheRealAsif Well, i was dreaming of Porsche's. Then got a bit realistic and wanted a Supra. Then wanted to drive the Camaro of my dad. In the end i bought a Honda and am saving for a S2k. Happy ending after all.

@caligurl350Z The Nissan Sentra SE-R is alright, I'm partial to the s2000 seeing as i own one, but i must say i'm also a fan of the Z.. almost purchased one until i got the S. At least Nissan has a nice lineup up vehicles, what does honda have now, the CR-Z? Lame.

they should switch tsuchiya and orido and battle again orido is a truly amazing driver but I always root for tsuchiya even if he's racing against the car I love more and I love the s2000 more and I think tsuchiya's skills will make a difference

I sold my 2007 350z hr for a 2008 s2k, best decision of my life. Power isn't everything, honestly the s2000 is much more enjoyable and feels faster.

both cars are good. s2k is a fun car and would beat the z350 in touge but since the track here is in the z350's favor, it takes it to the finish line. any of these car is good. it all comes down to the tuning and driver.

this shows how succesful the s2000 is 2.0 I4 engine keeps up with 3.5 V6 just imagine honda making a sports 3.5 V6 engine. i guess they would compare it with supercars then

@Gred922 some people drag, some people track/touge/drift... its obvious that even though drag racing in a straight line can be fun and exhilarating; doesnt require as much skill as racing in a track/touge/drift event... i like the Z but theres something about that 9k redline that makes me choose an s2k

The Z was lucky because it did't up against the J's Racing s2000.....still i go for the s2000 for its light weight body and high rev motor....in a track or street racing,s2000 is a monster....

S2000 is amazing, 2.0 vs 3.6 and very close in terms of performance. I'm more impressed with the Honda in this case.

Basically a maxima motor in those Z33's. It wasn't until 2008 that they got an actual high performance built engine in the VQ35HR.

@@teonesterov9141 s2k lost to sti so Z33 defeated STI, r34 gtr 600hp and more shitboxes from fast and furious on touge (bestmotorong)? Explain this? Even keiichi said more times that handling in Z is from other planet. Keep ur peasant brand honda away its in rang with opel in quality etc... Where did Z lost? I remember every time when dk drives Z33, defeats something like NSX R lol... just watch newer videos... lol your mighty nsx r lost to a legend, but u can't really get rid of cheap hondas lol. U got times in this video. FD, S2k, e46 m3, Rx8 and boxter porsche is in same competition with z. Watch even european tests. Z holds 1st place. If its faster than 600hp gtr mcr tuned r34 its easy to understand, s2k is just miata. Honda is just imposter. Nissan is first brand that got variable valve timing systems, 1 year later honda decided to make shitec... ohh yeah did honda got constant vvt like 350z? Nope, cuz its so cheap brand its almost GM now.

2.0L v4 vs 3.5 v6, you do the math. If s2000 can keep up with that z, that's freaking amazing. Imagine the s2000 was 3.5L, it would kill the z. Hands down.

The only person have to do the math here is you..please understanding power to weight ratio principal before do any stupid argument and 1 more thing..S2000 is Straight 4 Longitudinal engine type NOT A V4 like you said..

@axsb Yea I think the s2000 has a better build it's balance is amazing but the 350z is very quick in the straights and tsuchiya is to good of a driver to see it's weak points in the turns I am an ex g35 owner and I will say they handle very well but they are heavy and a little skidish when they are up in the power band in turns the s2000 just grips so much but they are a little slow with out 4.7 gears and a mild turbo or semi built but I agree put them in a touge and say bye bye 350

drove the s2k cr, my buddy and i frickin love that car, he was thinkin to actually get cr but the dealership wouldnt lower a fuckin penny, so he went and got a 335 bmw ahaha

Thank god... I was starting to lose faith that anyone actually knows shit anymore. if countless professionals (including the companies themselves) placed and created these cars in the same class, then maybe they know better than trolls on the internet. Half of the people here are butt hurt because their s2000 lost on this particular track. Well be happy to know that most autocross tracks it would win. However every track consisting on longer sections/high torque would favor the z.

Fuck Honda, they no longer make true performance cars anymore. They are becoming just like Toyota; boring and bland. At least Nissan still has some soul left in its cars, and judging by the amount of Nissan tuners/drifters in Japan--most would agree.

You're comparing a 2.0-2.2L 4 cyl to a 3.5L V6. Plus the Z in this video has 40 hp over a stock Z. That considered, it shouldn't even be close. The S2000 is the purer sports car, and more fun to drive :) convertible Z's are slow and hideous
