Naruto being one of the most misunderstood anime of all time seems like an understatement with the amount of terrible takes content creators have on the series. Naruto being a societal underdog not an underdog power wise, Naruto’s actual meaning of his speech to Neji, Naruto’s themes of his own character and the themes the show pushes with other characters and the story. Bleach transformation have always made low sense to me. Like i get ichigo becomes stronger by transforming, but why does he need to become over the top stronger than his enemy? Like i think ichigo can fight gods, lose miserably and after just 1 transformation or Zangetsu taking over we know ichigo can toss them around like adult vs kid. Ichigo insta wins at transformation. Naruto didn't win just bcoz he had sage mode. Luffy didn't win just bcoz he had gear 4 against doffy, cracker, katakuri. He didn't win against kaido just by gear 5. Ichigo has no struggle against any enemy if he gets transformation. It's like his transformation are AI set up to always analyse his opponent full strength which isn't even shown and surpass that by 10x atleast without any reason. It makes sense he is stronger but why stronger than his opponent who was beating him miserably?

Ichigos bankai shouldn’t be S tier it’s A tier at best, for one of his criteria he said that some of the transformations weren’t good because the character’s transformations weren’t good enough to beat their opponent. He just contradicted that with ichigo as ichigo has never beaten anyone with just his bankai even the first time he transformed, he was beating byakuya then as soon as byakuya showed his trump card ichigo started losing and the only reason he made it out was because his hollow side kicked in and he went berserk.

I was one of the few who actually experienced Gear 5 during the weekly manga experience, and let me tell you, there's never been another chapter like it in any series I've read. The One Piece community is known for it's theory crafting and one of the biggest subjects at the time was what Luffy's next power up would be against Kaido. Some people thought it would be Gear 5 (but a very different version than the one we know now), some people thought it would be a new Gear 4 form, and some people thought it would be awakening. Oda combined Gear 5 with awakening, but also completely subverted expectations by making the form super goofy. It was hype as hell, funny, and just an overall amazing time. It's hard to describe to anyone who wasn't there to experience it before spoilers, but let's just say there's a reason why it's the most spoiled transformation.

The Naruto KCM take is so beyond braindead it’s not even funny. Why does reading comprehension go so out the window when people talk about Naruto? Like there needs to be some type of case study on this stuff. It’s not even like it’s hard to understand lmao. I can’t even fathom how someone can understand Ichigo and Zangetsu but then say “haha Kyubi mode chakra go brrrr” when talking about Naruto’s process of self reflection and acceptance which is far less complex to understand than Ichigo’s transformation. Gear 5 is a fun transformation but some One Piece fans went too far. Particullary when they can't help but trash any other Manga / anime and saying gear 5 is the best thing ever made. Also I'm still on the fence on the long run for gear 5. If he managed to fold Kaido with it. It would be strange to see Luffy struggle against folder characters because I highly doubt from now on he will only fight top dogs like Blackbeard or Akainu. But more importantly than power scaling, it's narrativly that I'm worried. With that Joyboy thing and Sun God fruit revelation I'm scared Oda will go the "choosen one" road. Kishimoto got flak for it in Naruto despite trying to nuance it with a prophety half broken (he didn't kill Sasuke like the endless reincarnation cycle wanted). Can only wait and see what Oda will do with that plot element.

I still think SSJ >> MUI >> Gear 5. I grew up watching dragonball. One Piece was just an anime that my friend suggested and i binged it. Super Saiyan and MUI transformation was the moment when audience had a rage and wanted goku to beat the sh*t outta Frieza or Jiren. But with gear 5. It's the complete opposite. Gear 5 is the only transformation which made me laugh. But that's what the author wanted. Luffy was always meant to make everyone laugh. And his alter ego 'JoyBoy' literally states happiness in a kid. Saiyans are known for their rage and so super saiyan is the culmination of their rage. Similarly, Luffy is the embodiment of happiness, and gear 5 sums up his character. Also Kaido was basically unkillable before gear 5. Some people even theorized that Straw hats would lose the raid. Cuz, Marineford had shown us that a loss can happen anytime. So, when gear 5 happened in the manga. My Jaw dropped cuz they just revealed a 10 yr long mystery of JoyBoy right when the transformation happened and Luffy toying the guy who he couldn't do sh*t in the previous chapters

I completely disagree with this list in so many. What is the point of a power-up if not to serve the story? Shouldn't "power-ups" that do that well be higher and those that don't be lower. Even with saying that, Dragon Ball being so high makes sense. Dragon Ball would be nothing without Super Saiyan. If you ask most people what the theme of Dragon Ball is, they would say its surpassing your limits. Not only does Super Saiyan perfectly embody that, it is THE reason people even say that is the main theme of the show. The story of Dragon Ball doesn't really have a theme (I think Toriyama himself even said this), it's just not written neatly enough to have one. That's why the fact that the "power-up" itself is so powerful that it becomes what the whole story is about makes Super Saiyan deserving to be that high, even though everything else is kind of lackluster. That being said, Gon, Mob, and Eren got absolutely robbed.

Hard work is just something that’s shared with rock lee And kurama never gave naruto the kyubi form willingly, Naruto literally had to battle kurama and steal some of kuramas power which showed the fact that no matter if your a good or bad person someone will always want something from you, and Naruto shared that with madara as madara took away kuramas free will and naruto took away kuramas power both without consent. Kyubi mode 2 is Naruto breaking free from that reality by facing kuramas fears and hatred. Naruto shared kuramas burden willingly and showed kurama the love he restricted many years ago. so kurama began to trust Naruto and so he entrusted him with his power and life (chakra is spiritual)

The only people that could enter it at will, are the ones who knew their trigger (e.g. Akashi's initial trigger being to solely focus on himself, and stop caring about his teammates). Only in the Movie do they straight up go against this. Also yes comparing it straight up to real life is a little silly, it's just mostly based on real life.

I don't think I count Rimuru's demon lord evolution as a "transformation" since its always active. Its just his new current state of being. Its not something you active or deactivate. It doesn't feel the same as the others. Kinda the same for Yuusuke as well. Once his demon blood awoke, thats just who he was. Sure he got a hair cut, but he simply was a demon/human hybrid now. I can maybe count Mobs ??? form as a transformation since he cant actively trigger it. But Deku's full cowl is just him using his powers the way they are supposed to be used. Basically, Deku sucks at controlling OFA. Notice All Might when he's using OFA just gets super muscular all over...cuz he's "full cowling". The fact that "full cowl" and "shoot style" became things that required names was kinda dumb. Ones just him using his quirk properly, the other is just him kicking instead of punching. Even him using 100% with the help of his backpack loli was still just him using his quirk the way its meant to be used because his body cant handle his own full power. Nah I can't let Zone be disrespected like that. Zone is based off a real life aspect of sports, it's not just an "on and off switch", when you're in the Zone you're in you're just a beast. The problem with gear 5 , the execution was just meh! Music was not iconic, and 10 month earlier just people hyping that it was going to break the internet, and it didn't, i love one piece but it was not funny, its was alrigth at most.. and i am caught up to the manga. I like one piece but have being falling out because in my opinion the anime is over extending their episodes and pacing is slow, i can literary watch 3 minutes beginning 3 at the end and that the episode the rest doesn't matter. Pacing being bad.. better to take time for the manga to not be so close. But yeah is your opinion, lol but i didn't feel any emotion like watching other anime , and the overhype kill it. And is a shame in was looking for, no goosebump and no laughing over the mask luffy powers either. Gear 5 is not S-Tier.

I've been watching one piece since about 2005 and if im being honest this is the only time I've been disappointed. Not only was it massively spoiled but it was his first power up that didn't feel right to me. I get people tie it into the lore as far back as skypiea but I really didn't like how they changed the story from Luffy constantly being an underdog taking down titans to being some sort of chosen one. It went from being a weird fruit used in interesting ways to just changed into something else. I would of rather its awakening just cause a bounce world all over the place/ turning other things into rubber. Instead it turns out he was just using his fruit wrong and just needed to imagine himself into something. I am hoping as the story progresses I'll change my mind on it but right now it feels kind of bittersweet.

Finish watching at 2x speed, I think the tier list is pretty solid, Gear 5 as expected would be a riot in chat. Gear 5 basically was set up for almost 2 decades, from introducing the idea of awakened abilities, awakened zoans, mythical zoans with 2 abilities in one, to Joy Boy and the Drums of Liberation, Gear 5 is the most thematically robust power up, it ties up all the themes of One Piece and Luffy as a character. It also realises that OP readers are probably middle age and grew up on cartoons so it really drew on the childhood memories and ties it to the feeling of happiness. It's a powerup that's not based on anger and negativity, but on pure ecstatic joy.

Actually the other weapon also have their curse transformation. It just that you need to experience extreme negative emotion that relate to the 7 deadly sins to do it. Shield hero got it first because he was betrayed and accused. So he got the curse shield of wrath.

He did teach Kagami how to turn it on and Akashi was able to learn by himself by analyzing Aomine. But neither characters are shown to turn it off by themselves willingly. I’m a huge One Piece fan, but I hate the original gear 4. Oda normally balances goofy and badass very well by making a design be one, and the actions be other (look silly while being badass or looking badass but acting silly) gear 4 looks silly and acts silly. The fact that he can’t physically stop bouncing is really fun and silly, but when combined with a silly design there is no way to feel the impact of when Oda wants you to take it serious

Take into account why he had to go for that transformation as a 12 year old kid. The power gap between normal Gon and Adult Gon is crazy. Easily S tier imo and it being just a 1 time thing just to defeat a royal guard where I doubt any character outside of the top 5 hunters can beat just makes sense. Though in the sense of just basing it off the anime then I can see why it's A tier but manga wise no arguments S tier.

I was disappointed with the manga and to a lesser extent Shin Mazinger Z without a Great Mazinger, and I kinda want a complete story ending with Great Mazinger. The start of this marathon are the anime shorts Daicon III and Daicon IV, which can be found on youtube. Daicon is a pun for "raddish" and the name for Osaka con, it was a grass roots level con celebrated by old school otaku back in the 80s. These 2 shorts are special anime made by the founders of Gainax back when they were still students, by watching these 2 anime, you will see the origin of all of Gainax anime and by extension Studio Trigger. After these 2 shorts, watch these anime in chronological release date if possible: Gunbuster Nadia of the Blue Water Evangelion FLCL Diebuster Gurren Lagann Evangelion Rebuild If you watch these anime in sequence, you'll see that all of them reference the previous anime, you'll start to see red heads, bunny girls, giant raddishes, Rider/ Inazuma Kicks, yellow vespa bikes etc. everywhere through out Gainax's anime.
