Really appreciate the parts list. Its pretty difficult sometimes to know for sure what parts are compatible and which aren't. Especially if someone doesn't have the same level of experience you do. So many of the channels out there do builds and never make a parts list or even show part numbers on screen. They just assume everyone knows exactly what they are talking about. It makes getting into the hobby quite a task starting from nothing.

Thanks for the video and links! I absolutely hated the stock slipper clutch on my Granite. Once it came loose I was never ever able to get it tight again. Even buying a whole new assembly, it worked its way loose eventually. This is a game changer for sure, and not dramatically expensive.

Great video and build. The alternative to this would be to buy a 3s Big Rock and install the center module as it already has the wider arms and handles better than the Granite due to its longer wheelbase.
@DerbyCityRC8 ай бұрын
Thanks! That’s true!! But I also really like the air control and flips of the short wheelbase, but yes I agree that’s still a great alternative!

We have both the Granite and the Big Rock. Both stock aside from adding rear wings to protect the body. We drive the Granite far more often than the Big Rock. There is no question that the Big Rock is more stable, and if you are running it around a track, it would be great. The Granite can do double backflips, tree flips, you name it, it's just a little animal. The Granite just seems so much more exciting. As a result, our Big Rock stays on the shelf. If you want to avoid traction rolls and you want a truck to jump straight and land level, go for the Big Rock. If you enjoy the craziness, go for the Granite. A slightly wider Granite might reduce the number of times you have to do the walk of shame, so that might be the sweet spot! 👍🏻

@@DerbyCityRC Well it's a funny story, sorta. I have had a few kid level RCs like the Bezgar tb141 to play with my dog. She loves chasing them down. It's a fun way to get her some exercise. Wished it worked to get me some too. I also bought a Hot Wheels Rc trick truck for my grandson. Yeah I'm that old. He loves jumping it off the built in ramp. So I figured I would get a new one that would be a little faster that both I could use with the dog and he could play with. I watched a few videos on here and came across your video where you upgraded the HBX 2995 to 3s and then jumped your tree. That was all it took I was hooked. So I bought it that day, but I used Amazon. I "can't" direct order from Banggoods since its Chinese based. Now I watch everything you post but only after locking my credit cards in a safe. I have bought two more since then. Another HBX the 16809a but its confusing me since it really built more like the 16890sa. the other one I bought was a junker DeeRC boat so the GK can use it in a pool.

Arrma sells a $29 "wide track" kit for the granite. It's basically arms and turnbuckles from the Typhon. Good luck.

Are you using batteries with the EC5 or IC5 connector? It can do that if you have deans plug batteries and use an adapter to hook to the ESC. If not, like Rants said, make sure each individual wheel turns freely and that the car is easy to roll on the floor by hand. I small bit of resistance from the motor is normal but should still roll easily. Checking the motor pinion to spur gear mesh for being too tight is another thing. Hey Evan. Love your videos as always. Couple questions cause I wanna do this to my Granite. Its already wide which I love. Hopefully I'll win the raffle then I'll have 2. 1st. Will the stock center slider driveshaft fit? If not what do I order? 2nd. If I get the housing from Horizon do I still need the screw set with the socket head screws because I see it comes with screws? One more thing. Where do I get the counter sink? Thank you for your time.
@DerbyCityRC7 ай бұрын
Thanks Ben!! I good luck on the Raffall and thanks for the support😊! Yes the telescoping axles and the spring-loaded center drive shaft all still work perfectly. So you should be good if HH has the screws. I guess I didn’t pay attention to that. Jenny’s takes all the screws and sells them in a kit (greedy! 🤣) My countersinks were bought from Home Depot, but this one is what I would use. No need for it to have the drill bit on it, I just couldn’t find mine that day (I did right after of course when I wasn’t even looking). amzn.to/4dDDM0E Could always get a single one for cheaper at hardware store. Hope this helps!!!
@benlandrum757 ай бұрын
@@DerbyCityRC Awesome! That helps a lot man. I forgot to ask. Where do I get that sliding block you used off the outcast? Thank you for the counter sink link. Im gonna see if I can find a single. What size did you use? One more thing. If I have any questions regarding RCs in the future could I get intouch with you via email or messenger? I'm still pretty new is why I ask and also Im a member of a few forums, but alot of times the members want to give me a hard time because of my lack of knowledge. Thanks for your time again.
@DerbyCityRC7 ай бұрын
@benlandrum75 that sliding block, I found out, was actually supposed to ship with the diff housing from Jenny’s. I emailed them and told them it was missing and they sent it out for me. That was after they first sent me the completely wrong center diff too and corrected that problem as well the week before lol I’m sure it’s on Horizon Hobby but it’s part number ARA311169 Yes, email me at derbycityrc@yahoo.com. Ya I can’t believe the amount of negativity on Facebook I see. Almost every post has someone commenting word garbage on it.

Excellent upgrades thx 4 sharing. Fyi... Pool closing next year with ball in middle of pool. You'll see much easier when removing the cover. And prevents stinky water going in pool why uncover.
@DerbyCityRC8 ай бұрын
Thanks! There actually is a ball under the pool cover it’s just not tall enough and shifts to the side (I did a terrible job securing it in place). We drained the water to just under the fill tube so it’s not tall enough. I’m still working towards a better idea for next year but possibly 4 of those pool pillows to make a pyramid lol. Or a few lengths of rope stretched over the top for the cover to rest on. 😆🧠

Thanks dude! I got the center diff and housing from JennysRC so slightly cheaper, but it was right around $150 in parts for the upgrade. I’ve got it all listed in the description if you decide to do it. Even just making it wider alone is a huge upgrade. lol So glad you love the videos!!

@@DerbyCityRC man that Granite is crazy. I’m totally new to the RC world. I’ve been watching a ton of Granite and Gorgon vids. Not quite sure what I should get. Wanting to get into this with my kiddos my son is 10 and my daughters 11 they’ve both run really really cheap RC’s in the past 20 thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated man again love the continent love the videos you’re amazing. I’d prefer my RC being that stable. That upgrade was so money!👍🏻
@DerbyCityRC6 ай бұрын
@russellupkes8263 it is for sure! The Gorgon is probably more kid friendly and can be upgraded as needed. The granite you can always slow down some with the controller and make it faster as they’re ready. I don’t have a Gorgon but it seems cool for sure! Me personally I would still go for the granite. The stability upgrades helped a lot for sure!
@russellupkes82636 ай бұрын
@@DerbyCityRC would recommend doing the stability upgrades or the Big Rock?
@DerbyCityRC6 ай бұрын
@russellupkes8263 I like the granite because it’s short wheelbase helps it do tricks in the air. The big rock may be slightly less capable of that, but would be a bit more stable most likely.

Binge watched a ton of your videos the past week. Trying to decide between the Granite, Vorteks and MT10… feels like the MT10 is the perfect mix of the Vorteks and Granite but how would you rank them with the upgrades you made to the granite in this video?
@DerbyCityRCАй бұрын
Thanks! The biggest thing I dislike abo it the MT10 is the electronics are kind of weak. It just lacks the punch the borteks and granite have. I think what I would do for the best of both worlds, is a vorteks with granite shocks and a center differential with 500k fluid in it.
@MrDolphinsfan305Ай бұрын
@ thank you! I was already leaning towards the Vorteks over granite for the handling but the MT10 pulled ahead for the stunts and handling. Love the idea of making the Vorteks a mix of the two.
@DerbyCityRCАй бұрын
@MrDolphinsfan305 you’re welcome! I’m working on that project now. The shocks alone made a big difference. Maybe even add the typhon arms but if you keep the stock tires on the Vorteks it’s not as necessary
@MrDolphinsfan305Ай бұрын
Update: Ended up pulling the trigger on a granite! It went on sale for $300 on Amazon + a 10% off coupon, $270 subtotal. That was too good to pass up! Added the wide arms for stability and it’s driving great. Still on the fence about the center differential, not sure how much bang for buck that upgrade would be.

@DerbyCityRC7 ай бұрын
@GaetanoCrisci thanks! They’re slightly longer so it will give it just a little more ride height. I didn’t drive it with them on as the 2996a is not currently driveable lol. After you install them, do a little bit of trial and error to see if you need to put thinner fluid or adjust the springs. The terminator is heavier so it’s possible a little tuning may need to be done. Thanks so much!!!

enjoyed the video, but would rather just buy a car already with the center diff and wider stance. I will admit, I did the wider arms on mine, but I don't see the center diff being worth it on this car given the fit issues. However, I do think I'll be taking my BIG Rock to the next level by installing a center diff. 🙂
@DerbyCityRC7 ай бұрын
I still think it’s worth it 😃 I’m pretty sure you will still need to grind down the chassis for the big rock. Not sure if the battery tray is longer on the BR or not, but yes it would very well be worth it on that too!!
