A really useful and honest view of the market from Mike. Since this video was posted the Coronavirus lockdown seems to have really hit sales (no surprise with most places closed). I took a chance on a 2005 (AMEP engine) DB9 Touchtronic with a full AM main dealer history and less than 12k miles. Its original local owner who ordered it from new hardly used it and was bored of it and so let it go for £27k. My own amateur inspection (I can hear Mike wince that I did not get a proper specialist inspection done!) revealed that it needs about £1600 spending on it to make it perfect (paint and minor mechanicals). So far so good over the past 6 weeks but only time will tell if it was a 'good buy' or should have been a 'goodbye'!! :) Either way, it looks like I will be calling on BR for future servicing needs. Thoughts on the price I paid?

Mike knows I went through the process of deciding whether to upgrade from v12v to the new Vantage. I think my dilemma is the same as many others in the market. Besides marmite styling inside and out, the new car has lost that ability to thrill. It’s quick but not visceral or engaging along with the very awkward inelegant design - it won’t age well. Because it’s so big I’d compare it to a Range Rover sport with your arse closer to the floor. Same issue with the DB11. Outside looks slightly fussy, inside of it looks like a merc - the new Bentley GT has shown up how cars should approach that segment of car. The new DBS looks better but is a body kit and joke remap for utterly stupid money compared to a DB11 AMR or otherwise. Because many cars will be on AM Finance, someone is already holding the residual “baby” so Aston can’t slaughter that even more with facelifts yet - maybe 5 years in. So essentially the used market is in a funk while everyone decides whether to go “new model” as per the consumerist brainwash or appreciate the last of “Peak car” era. (other cars in the same era like the 997 also fall into the same category - the big blobby new cars drive like video games) with engines, steering and looks (while legislation has killed real driving cars, there’s no excuse for the styling). Anyone who has driven a 991gt3 at warp speed after getting out of a 997 gt3 in an exhilarated sweat will relate to this. There is always a market from people who want the latest thing - they’re often not the enthusiast or discerning drivers. Just worried that they need to be seen in the latest thing, with the latest performance stats (try enjoying one of the new turbo torque cars with electric steering on a damp road!) Theirs are probably the cars for sale at the moment now that the step up in price to the New Vantage seems reasonably cheap. We’ve also got the perfect storm of Brexit and the impact of Climate Change peer pressure frowning on fossil fuel cars - that will have a short term impact on the image of ICE sports cars until people realise the volumes are a tiny niche compared to the mass fleet of everyday cars and trucks etc. When the dust settles on that lot, people will want something to behold and savour - whichever is the best to look at, the best to drive. And that will not likely be the latest crop of legislatively strangled bloaters. Again look at the 911 market....The current buck stops with Palmer (From Nissan!) for the design sign offs and push for volume, but the DBX in volume and the margin on ultra elite custom runs like the DB4 Zagato will probably bail them out. I think it’s very sad and hope the brands sports cars survives this chapter, but I’m utterly thankful I’ve got a manual v12v in the shed - longest I’ve ever kept a car by far (5 years and counting - having had other stuff alongside it which has been and gone) but I have very recently decided to use some of the “trade up” funds I’d have otherwise put into a 4.0 Vantage, toward upgrading the V12V - a 580+bhp noise and feel from an NA V12 with hydraulic steering compared to the Merc Turbo....there is just no comparison whatsoever. Just look at it, start it and go drive it....:)

Sorry but i don't agree on the 4.3 Values, Ive been looking since August this year and only found one car for sale under 25k. Ive also noticed that sub good 28k Vantages sell within a week or to. I missed out on 2 within a week of them being advertised. On the other hand i viewed some cars back in August and 3 of them are still for sale.

Im amazed not a word about the DBS v12 2008-2012? and especially the manual, I searched almost 2 years for a manual before i found the right one, with B&O that came late 2009, and from that point almost every DBS was Touchtronic, ( only 40 manual transmission from 2010 to 2012) for your guidence in the absence of information from mike sligtly over 110 000 £

Indeed, the DBS prices are at least worth a few words in this video. Especially the Manuals. Until 2010 a lot of Coupes are Manual, the Volantes in Manual are very rare, 44 worldwide, and now go for more than Euro 250K overhere! Further a nice video, thx!

Thnks for doing the video. I had a Vantage V8 for a while, switched to a Lotus and now an M4 believe it or not. I’m missing the special feeling of owning and driving an AM and now looking at new shape DB9.2. I’ve only just come across you’re channel. It’s a very useful resource. Thanks.

Greetings from California, thank you for sharing your knowledge. I've been following along your posts and videos. Currently own a manual 2013 V8 Vantage and would like to slowly upgrade the exhaust & clutch in stages. Not much information on the 4.7 upgrades and gains compared to 4.3, other than your exhaust dyno chart on your website. Thanks again for your content.

Mike, enjoying your channel, thank you for sharing your information, Can you do a chat on the benefits and difference on purchasing a DB9 and a DB9+2, is the DB9+2 build quality different or is just a re-badged Virage? Kind Regards.

Interesting to see that in the month since this video was released, the new Vantages have dropped much further, with nice spec, low mileage dealer cars now below £90k. The cat is well and truly out of the bag about the deeply discounted finance deals during December (I now have one solely because of that deal) so I guess the used market is still adjusting to take account. I wouldn't be surprised if the V12VS has pretty much bottomed out and starts slowly climbing, if at least not falling any further, whilst the new cars will keep falling. Having now owned both, I know which car I'd want to have tucked up in my garage when future ICE bans start biting....and it's not the new one!

What? Why stop 4.7 V8 Vantage in 2009? It was produced through 2017 and is the best looking most fun to drive sports car ever made. Manual of course!

I just can't get past the grill on the V12 Vantage S. I much prefer the grill on the V12 Vantage - I wonder if you can stick the grill from the V12 onto the S - Is that even possible or is there a reason for the mesh grill on the S?

2010 DB9 for £35k is what I’d be looking at. I can’t imagine getting much cheaper than that and in fact at that price with low miles it may even go up in price in 10years

Would you say a 2008 facelift DB9 with 109k on the dials for £28.5k would be a great price, full history and well looked after?
@BamfordRose
@BamfordRose 4 жыл бұрын
Graham Brand Hi - that’s sort of just about ok if buying from a trader with after-sales care. But, when you come to sell, that mileage plus what you put on, will be a real issue and you’ll find it tough to sell for any decent price. If you are keeping the car for a few years then fine, enjoy it, but if you’ve an eye on selling soon, my advice would be add up to 5k to that value and get a lower mileage car. In reality and if well serviced, they can soak up miles, it’s the market which doesn’t like high mileage

@@BamfordRose Thank you for the response. A fresh MOT and I've seen the full history plus been on a test drive makes me happy with the sale. Until someone might come along and tell me to absolutely not entertain it.. but a good back and forth with the seller has been so far a pleasant experience. I want to keep as long as possible tbh. And have a sunday car I love.. if I lose 5k on it's in 2-3 years that's ok with me Thanks again

What about V12 Roadsters?
@johnc5clive
@johnc5clive 4 жыл бұрын
Mike, I’m looking at the purchase of a V12 Vantage S from around 2015 as 2016 facelift cars are quite a bit more money. Been looking a long time for the correct spec as I prob will only ever be able to do this once. Not too bothered if it’s a coupe or roadster. Hopefully will have it long term but the price of cars the same age can be around 10K depending on the spec. In your opinion, does a higher mileage but higher spec car deserve to be 10K apart?
@BamfordRose
@BamfordRose 4 жыл бұрын
johnc5clive When you come to sell the car, the higher spec will help bolster a sale, make the sale go quickly, but higher mileage will always significantly detract. Unless you have no plans to sell, mileage must always be low

I’d love one But a car where you can carry only one other person and does 12 to the gallon (if you drive it with any kind of enthusiasm ). Also ridiculous running costs and repair bills? It’s nice to dream about but impractical and why you can pick them up for peanuts and why the market is stagnant.
