I had a U8H but returned it. It is interesting how two different people see different things. On your video, to MY eyes, the Sony looks a lot better except the blooming. But the huge one is motion. Your eye preferred the Hisense and I respect that. I saw where all the other reviewers were complaining about the Hisense having motion problems, studdering, banding of colors and blamed it on Hisense processor not being up to the task. I figured they were overblowing it and ordered one. Nope. Holy cow they were right on the money. Drove me nuts. I returned it and saw your video where I greatly preferred the Sony. The first time my wife walked in and saw the Sony 75X90K she was wowed and told me she liked this one MUCH better. I agree. I bought mine through Costco so it came with a better backlit remote and a 5 year warranty. Buying at Costco also means it was never pulled off the shipping pallet and I rented a van to bring it home myself so I knew it was handled with care. After updating the software, it now has a new gaming bar/menu. The Sony processor is legendary for its capability as is it's reputation for quality. I kept my last TV for 16 years so quality matters to me. At this point, I plan to keep the Sony.

I highly recommend the Sony over the Hisense. As you can see in this video color accuracy is way better on the Sony and there are settings that you can adjust to reduce the blooming and motion blur. I wish I could see a comparison to this Hisense with tweaked settings on the Sony.

COMPARISON: Those two TV sets were on display next to each other in Best Buy. I saw multiple display examples simultaneously run on both TVs. The BIG difference was the Hisense U8H suffered from problems with "Stuttering" that were not seen on the Sony X85K and X90K sitting next to the U8H. For example, in the demo of Doctor Strange, just rotating his head caused "Stuttering" in the U8H. But that problem did not occur in the Sony TVs. Also, there was a scene of an airplane moving quickly from left to right in another movie. The Sony TVs were fine. But the Hisense U8H, TCL Series 4, and LG UQ75 had SEVERE problems with "Stuttering." The worst one of all was the LG TV with the "Stuttering" problem! The demo in Best Buy clearly showed an example of Gran Turismo. The Hisense TV had severe problems with "Posterization" so you could see the different individual gradient color changes rather than being a gradual change in color. There were also problems with "Macroblocking" that were visible in the U8H. There is no point of having "Superior Black" colors while watching movies if the movie itself is "Stuttering" when people are rotating their heads or an object is moving from left to right quickly. I finally needed to return my U8H. Very disappointing. I hope Hisense doesn't take shortcuts like this in the future. The firmware updates did NOT fix those problems.

@michaelzoran
@michaelzoran Жыл бұрын
@@5000NATE "Macroblocking" is when video quality ends up looking as if it has a very low bitrate that is extremely pixelated. Macroblocking is a distortion that appears in compressed video material as abnormally large blocks of pixels. It occurs when the encoder cannot keep up with the bandwidth of the video. It is particularly visible with fast motion sequences or quick scene changes.

@@loopymofo I cannot speak about what Best Buy might have done to make the TCL Class 4 and LG UQ75 TV sets look so terrible with "Stuttering" problems while sitting next to the Sony X90K and Sony X85K. However, I watched the Best Buy employees take the Hisense U8H 65" TV out of the box and set it up properly in "Retail" mode. When I arrived at the Best Buy store, I asked where the U8H was. I pointed out that the website specifically said there was a U8H on display. I was told, "We did get it, but we haven't set it up yet." I was then told, "This is the third or fourth time you have been in the store asking about this TV from Hisense. We will get it out of the box and set it up for your right now." And I have to give credit where it is due to the Best Buy employees, because they did take it out of the box and set it up appropriately. The Best Buy employees had their same demo connected that runs on all the TVs. And they also connected a USB card with a bunch of videos on it for me to look at anything I wanted. Each video I looked at had the "Stuttering" problems on the U8H.
@loopymofo
@loopymofo Жыл бұрын
So what stuttering problems were they? Side scrolling stutter? Also should have asked them to do a firmware update to the latest version soyou can see if the issue was fixed via an update.. If its side scrolling stutter, the settings could have been turn off upon unboxing that would smooth out the stutter and make it more fluid. That being said, sony does have it enables outof the box. Its a big ask for the employees but always best to judge on the latest firmware version as many issues could have been fixed. I am a self calibration type of buyer. To me only the colours need to look good. The rest can be tweaked within the settings. Also idon't mind a bit of side scroll stutter. Keeps the image intacts with out the settings artificially enhancing the video to much. But to each is there own. My x85c just died and i chose the U8H over the x90k and the LG C1. So not gunna miss much if thereis stutter compared to my first gen 4K tv lol

The sony looked better, actually, from my eye as you ran the demos. Call me crazy, but the sony colors are more accurate to me with detail and skin tones. But I can see that the Hisense has darker black levels, probably because the brightness makes the black levels pop a little better. I like the black levels, but I cant get over seeing them side by side. The sony is my pick. Thanks for the great video. Please keep them coming. I was pretty much dead set on the u8h until I saw it in the store. It didn’t pop like all the reviews said. Plus I’m a big gamer and I thought it was the tv for me until I saw the x90k. The colors are way more accurate. I can even tell in the video. And in vivid mode the Sony gets plenty bright. When I hooked my ps5 up to the Sony it was beautiful. 4K @120hz looks amazing on this tv. When I looked at both of these TVs at Best Buy they were both the same price. So I went with the Sony even though on a lot of sites they say the u8h is better especially for gamers, seeing them in person changed my mind.

I suggest looking up how to unlock pro mode with the cal man app. It unlocks more customization settings to make your tv look and sound even better. Plus if you have a ps5 it auto configures the best settings for it. Coming from a tcl 4 series this tv was the right choice for me. Hope this helps.

It seems to me that in some scenes, especially bright and colorful scenes, the hisense looks more vivid than the sony, which was very evident in the burnout paradise racing game you showed. At the same time, in other scenes, the sony seems to have a look to it that's more appealing than the hisense, which I mostly noticed whenever it was displaying for lack of a better term "realistic content" i.e. close-ups on people's faces, the picture of the brunette woman smiling, and other moments based more on real life, including most of the natural landscapes and such that you put up on display. From that standpoint, I'm willing to say that the Sony will most likely have a better picture in realistic scenes, whereas the hisense would probably be more fun to game on. That said, it's very hard to come to a true conclusion from viewing these demos via video as opposed to seeing them myself live in-person. It's a tough life :/ Hard to know what to believe. U8H might be the better picture in a certain percentage of cases... but the reputation behind the Sony Bravia xr chips... the reputation of Sony as a tv brand... I mean they are legendary for a reason, and the x90k is not an entry level model... I would probably sway towards the x90k for that reason alone.

Great video. Good work. This is why I love competition. I love Sony, but Hisense and TCL have been bringing the heat. I currently have the Sony 75X940E, which is still a great set. With that said, if it were to break and I couldn't get an LG OLED 77C2, I would get the Hisense. It's amazing that this set can be had for $1500 for a 75 inch, with HDMI 2.1 and all the bells and whistles. Being Mini LED makes it a no-brainer to me, because it's punchier and brighter than the Sony with arguably less drawbacks. The color banding will bother some purists, but for the price it can be overlooked and many people won't be able to notice unless it's pointed out. It's a steal, and I hope these brands continue to put pressure on the bigger brands, because the consumers win.

I think this is an excellent video. This is the kind of content I look for. The Hisense on paper is so tempting and ideally its what standard LED and Mini led should be. Then you start to hear about quality control and the bug hisense has with 4k/120 gaming. Nonetheless, I'm impressed that Hisense keeps brining the heat and getting better. They just need help with video processing and more. I remember telling you this, Sony needs to start swinging next year. They have been holding back too much.

I now own both tvs and the Sony is the better of the two. Yes the Hisense is brighter and the sound from the sub woofer is better, but you have to work for the picture in all content and it has to be updated to make the picture viewable. The Sony has a more refined picture and processing is much better than the Hisense. Both great tvs and I'm happy with both. I also have a U6G and it has a very good picture as well. Hisense is definitely a reputable brand and I'd choose it over a LG or Samsung.

MOTION: The bottom line is the "Motion" of the Sony one is superior. Just go to a local Best Buy and see the same demo running on each. You see the "Stuttering" effect problems on the Hisense U8H, but you don't see it on the Sony X85K or X90K. Those TV sets were all next to each other. The TCL 4 series had problems with "Stuttering," too. And the worst one of all with "Stuttering" was the LG UQ75 next to them at Best Buy.

Where did you see a Hisense on display at a Best Buy? Every Best Buy I've stepped foot in doesn't even have higher end Hisense TV's, and they never have any Hisense TV's on display at all. I just got a Hisense U8H, coming from a Samsung TU7000. I don't notice any stuttering. Also take note, in this very video you can see the Hisense has much better motion than the Sony.
@michaelzoran
@michaelzoran Жыл бұрын
@@PotatoeJoe69 I saw all of those TV sets on display at the Best Buy in Port Huron, Michigan. If you look online, you can see whether or not TV sets are on display at stores. As far as "Stuttering" goes, you cannot accurately and precisely judge the "Stuttering" of a Hisense compared to a Sony when you are watching a video that was recorded at either 30fps or 60fps on a screen running at 60hz. In fact, even if you watch that same move on DVD and compare it to the Blu-ray, you won't get accurate results due to the fact that Blu-rays run at 24fps (23.97) and DVDs run at 30fps (29.97). The way you need to accurately and precisely see the "stuttering" for yourself is to watch the same movie when the TVs are next to each other and playing the exact same content running at 24fps. This is what I was referring to regarding the example of Doctor Strange. On the Hisense U8H, when Doctor Strange simply rotated his head 90 degrees, there was visible stuttering. You could not see this stuttering on the Sony X90K or the Sony X95K or the Samsung Q90B. The LG TV sets actually had the worst "Stuttering" of all in several instances. And I'm talking about their super expensive models. This actually agrees with the reviews of RTings where the LG TV sets, even the C2, had very low ratings for "Stuttering." In all the reviews I've ever seen on RTings, though, the reviewer outright said he found the "Stuttering" on the U8H "Annoying." I had never seen him go so harshly against a TV set. And in those instances he was referring to, it really is bad. Hisense needs to correct that for all future TV sets. The "Shimmering" effect is something you can in fact see when comparing two TV sets. RTings did a good job of showing how the "Shimmering" effect does not exist in the TCL Class 6 TV, but it clearly does in the Hisense U8H. It is unfortunate that problems like this exist in TV sets today. Anyone who spends $1,500 on a 75" TV should not be experiencing these types of problems. Also, all of these problems with "Stuttering" with the 24fps Blu-ray movies can literally be blamed on Sony. We didn't see this type of "Stuttering" in the DVD era, because of the 3:2 Pulldown technology. We heard Sony say, "Having the Blu-rays run at 24fps is better." But, we ended up seeing that is nonsense. Sony's greed to do everything "their way" (i.e. betamax) ended up hurting the entire industry and all consumers.

I was going to buy the Hisense U6H to replace my dead RCA TV till I saw the U8H TV. The viewing angles and the head-on viewing of the picture and the colors on the U8H were superb. They were as good as the higher end TVs such as SONY. The U6H and U8H TVs were less expensive than their higher end competitors. I am no audiophile or videophile as I am unable to discern the finer aspects as noted by such individuals. So the clear cut winner for me is the Hisense TV. BTW, I had originally intended to buy the U6H based on your review and reviews by others. I bought the U8H this evening based on what I saw. When I got home, I saw your review. The viewing angles and the colors were better than what your video showed. I should mention that I did not see a U6H hooked up in the store so I cannot comment on how that TV performed. The 55 inch U6H was $429.99 while the U8h was $699.99 at Best Buy. I think it was worth the price difference for all that you get. I hope the Hisense lasts as long as my RCA 36 inch CRT TV. That RCA TV was about 23 years old when it died 4 days ago. And again, I give you 2 "Thumbs UP" for your excellent comparison review.

I have seen a lot of positive reviews of the u8H, so I got one. Unfortunately, I have increasing concerns that Hisense is selling mislabeled TVs while ensuring reviewers get a different tv. I have hooked by U8H to 3 windows 10 PCs, all 3 show a max refresh rate of 60 hz. I actually starting looking into this because when I signed into my google account, google recognized it as a u7H. I didn't think much of it, but it seemed a tad odd...plus all of the firmware on the TV itself all has generic names. Finally, when I went to play games the colors were fantastic but the game was surreal, choppy, and kind of gave me a migraine...which is when I started looking into the windows settings. I can't say for sure Hisense mislabeled this TV, but I can say for sure the TV experience I got with a u8H is nothing like the professional reviewers are getting.

@@anorton4821 a Firmware update somewhat fixed the 4k 120hz. 444 4k 120hz still isnt going to work well on pc, for me it causes heavy banding and pixelation on streaming content. But 422 will using text clarity mode with brightness turned down a bit it looks fantastic across all content iv tested so far. It drops the color range and disables all the processing stuff. But will give full 4k res at 120hz and give surprisingly clear text as well. This makes it a very viable gaming tv for pc, just dont expect full 4k 120hz ei chroma 444 with everything enabled. For the price of this tv, this is a solid compromise imo and makes it the best budget gaming tv id now recommend it for gaming and movies both the same now.

Great breakdown. So my finance and I are close to moving into a brand new condo and we have researching a brand new tv for the living room. We currently have a basic 42" TCL 4K tv but want to step up to a higher end. What's your thought on these 2 TVs vs the LG C2? That is way more money so I'm trying to decide if going OLED is worth $600 difference currently on Best Buy.

Great video, Steve! Found you a couple days ago and you have been a huge help!! I am looking at the X90K, UAH, LG QNED class 83, and the Samsung q80b. Out of this list, which do you think is the best bang for your buck? It is for my living room for just streaming tv, watching sports, and maybe occasionally I will game with it, but not much. I game in a separate room. It is a pretty bright in the room as well. Thank you so much- a new subscriber!

I would go with the Samsung Q80B. I ended up buying the 85in Q80BD from Costco and can’t believe how awesome this tv looks and how many features it has for the money. The tv feels and looks more like a high grade tv than a mid grade. Went to get an LG Oled or Samsung Neo QLed qn90b but couldn’t justify the price difference. The Q80B is the most bang for the buck secret out there awesome tv very bright good for gaming and watching HDR content

So I think the Hisense has lots of features and with the mini led tech the blacks are blacker but that warm filter, makes me want to 🤢 esp when you see what it looks like to Sonys picture quality, blues are blues, reds are reds, vs Hisense (any color)/orange

Joe ! My honest sincere try to offer u to check out Sony Scene they all look BLUE !!! Any snow scene is blue n Black ! All d TVs on d Market have Color tone issues ! Right now all d TVs Colors r made by RED -BLUE- Green lights ! They can NOT produce True Yellow ! By switching intensity n combo, they have to always miss out some color accuracy ‘ Sony makes evrything Blue! It’s a Depresing Look cuz it’s like makes vibrant magenta look Blue/purple . It makes red looks more washed out , green looks more Turquoise!!! 😮😮😮 Year aft year ! LG is Extremely Green n Orange 🍊 consistently C9 CX …. Their QNED… Samsung n Hisense r VERY close to nutrual ! But ppl r PICKy! They r like “see see see washed OUT !” Literally LG was overly Tuned ! To fake the “vibrancy “ Hisense seems was force to Turn up tiny bit Warmth So Hisense used to be more pink . (Asian ppl already more green warm toned prefer see tv more Pale/cool tone ) , they altered it to be more soft in between LG n SONY . Yeah check out their like Someone with suits ,,, white collar . Their White will look blue . N white flower 🌸 look blue , White wedding dress is blue . It’s so strange seeing in store .

Also check it !!!’ Bright Red !!! Road sign ! Sony doesn’t have the Orange Coral 🪸 RED spike beautiful POP ❤of color . It always looks with Thin Film of Dirt ! Pink neon Candy 🍬 scene ,,, the driving game ! Pink 👩‍🎤neon -looks Severly Wash 🧼 OUT on SONY ! Megenta -- Sony ,, looks more of Purple tint ! Than Magenta ! RED color group is such IMPORTANT traits ! Same with White color ! Those crisp white , n Bright 😮REDs makes d Visual !!! Black n Grey just Fillers ! Sony Heavily Market “we good at this “ like 👍🏻 1 thing ! But We need COLORs to make Pics vibrant ! 😅

@@nelsonmendes7551 that's not true.. x85 is lower mid range , the X90K close to the X95J with great contrast , brightness, color gamut , color volume that's the reason why the picture in the video looks lifelike, but yeah with worse local dimming, still score good overall though (score by rtings) so in the spec range it's upper mid range class

When you consider the price difference when acknowledging how close these are, the Sony is definitely better in some areas, but for the price difference? A barely noticeable improvement from the Sony certainly doesn't justify the huge price difference. Also, that brightness tho...
