Great Vid. The uni is a great knot. Fishing on a boat with few fishermen you can get away with lighter line. On busy boats, the mates will hate you when you tangle every line around you after your fish makes a run on light drag.

I mostly was tying trilene knots from my freshwater days, but they were slipping out on heavier salt water stuff so I switched to the uni. I use it for almost everything now. Its fast, strong, works for connecting anything to anything - the only thing I don't use it for now, is sometimes on certain setups I'll use an FG to tie braid to leader, mostly where I'm casting and the knot is gonna go through the guides.

I snell circle hooks which is just a uni knot on the shank rather than on the mainline (read a whitepaper on tuna longliners and they found that a snell is the most effective knot, improved catch rates quite a bit as the mainline comes through the point side of the eye and retains 100% of line strength.) . the uni knot is king IMO. only others I use are PR knots or FG knots depending on line weight if I'm not using dacron/hollow braid. I experimented with bloods, palomar and all else. I'll do a bimni twist then loop to loop or albright. it's more important to use a knot you trust. a failed knot should never be the reason for a lost fish IMO.

At some point can you explain why the bimini?
@notsure78744 жыл бұрын
Knots are a weak point, so by doubling the line like that before you tie a knot thats gonna be under stress, you can get the full strength of the braid where you connect to a swivel or whatever terminal tackle you're using.
@harrismichael884 жыл бұрын
What is the need for the bimini? Wouldn't you just go from the main line braid to the mono? Or is that braid below the Bimini doubled?
@GaleForceTwins4 жыл бұрын
The Bimini doubles the braid giving it more strength. It also makes it easier to tie mono to braid when the braid is thicker. Another benefit to the Bimini would be if you want to tie the albright as your line to line knot which requires the line to be doubled over. We use the albright on our slow pitch set up. Video coming soon!!
@notsure78744 жыл бұрын
@@harrismichael88 Yeah the bimini is basically a type of loop knot, so toward the leader yes, it's 2 strands of braid.
@harrismichael884 жыл бұрын
Ok, so you end up having 2 braid tag ends on the double uni then? It didn't look like double line, thats why I was confused.

So keep thumb on spool on the drop when on the bottom slightly increase thumb pressure, as boat drifts away from that spot do you want your weight to remain in position or hold distance from boat? On the sinker is it a lighter line to act as break away in case weight gets snagged? Is there a preference for the Uni( Palomar, Clinch whatever) knot to hook eye over some variation of shell knot through eye and around shank, it's supposed to increase chances of hook set in corner of fish mouth. ATB Spam

Why use a swivel with the weights tied to the line vs a fish finder clip for the weight?
@unionsquaregrassman4 жыл бұрын
By using lighter mono/flouro to attach your weight to your swivel, you have a better chance of losing the weight but getting the the rest of your rig back if you snag bottom. With a clip, you will probably lose everything up to the braid. Plus, you could adjust for depth of presentation, almost like dropshotting.
@webincomeincome87672 жыл бұрын
Seems if you used sinker leader of lower poundage than regular leader or mainline you could break it off when it gets hung.
