I just recently switched back to Kyser after what I thought were fond memories from back when I started. I was very wrong. Terribly inconsistent tensions on 6-string, 12-string, and classical, horrible intonation issues, etc. THANK YOU for this video. I will be looking into Shubb, NS Pro, and Elliott TODAY!

As a 10 year old beginner 60 years ago I actually resorted to the pencil and rubber band trick . The music store wasn’t nearby. Anybody remember Black Diamond strings?
@LuckyInCards Жыл бұрын
Yes ... flat wound Black Diamonds ... they were horrible but the only strings the local music store had (even though the local music store had accessories for brass instruments).

I had always hated using capos mostly due to tuning issues. Bought an Elliot Elite from y'all some years back and absolutely love it. It is dependably in tune always. I wouldn't buy anything else.

Interesting video. I think the missing elements are price and use case. I've never lost a capo, and I have never had one fail, but I don't gig and I don't mind retuning. For me, a Paige works well, if I put it on right. The biggest advantage is that it's mostly not in the way on the neck. Lots of people who play way better than I do get great sounds from lesser capos. Of course we all know Tony Rice had an Elliott, so I'm sure I'd sound just like him if only...😂

Please, do a video on capo’s for 12 strings. Talk about frustration! Thanks, Santa Cruz.

One capo that wasn't in the test, but I think would fare quite well is the D'Addario cradle capo. I have the Shubb, Paige, G7th, and Kyser and personally think the D'Addario cradle is the most consistent capo I have. Would love to see you do a video on this capo with your pro's and con's.

I use a Shubb Fine Tune. I'm surprised you guys didn't use one of those rather than that cheap Shubb. My Fine Tune rivals the Elliott in my opinion and at less than half the price of the Elliott. . Cheers

I've had a few Keysers. Quite handy for live.....but the spring on the last couple cracked.....I live in a cold country and if they are cold when you start using them the spring is ''brittle'' and susceptible to cracking.

Great video! It confirms my own experience (except for the Elliott, which is out of my price range). I hate the Kyser. The Shubb and the NS Pro are my go-to capos. One advantage of the NS Pro is that it can be modified. I like to shorten the length of the bar a bit and that makes it easier to reach over when playing certain chords. I can shorten it more to use with my banjo. I have also cut away the part of the rubber that goes over the lowest string so I can get something akin to a drop D tuning.

This was great.... Please do more of these. I would like to see the adaptive radius capos vs the Elliot. I have a custom capo very similar to the Elliot (just as good i think) but i can't get keep the guitar in tune as well with the vinyl plastic bar cover like i can with the shubb rubber.

Nice video guys. What about D’Addario Artist Capo? I think it's wonderful for 6 and 12 string acousitc guitar (haven't tried the classical guitar version yet). You could add it to an updated version of this comparison in the future! greetings from Chile

Tommy Emmanuel defends the Kyser tuning stability by pulling up the strings after the capo squeezes the strings out of tune. I should say my son uses many different Kysers and they sound great when he uses them. I use the D'Addario NS Pro ... you can put one in your jeans picket ... and because the Kyser is way too springy ... afraid it will pop open and damage my Martins. I use the Shubb L1 for the Strat. I really like the IDEA of the Shubb F1 Yoke capo and the Elliott capo ... reminds me of the 60s ... but they're $70. (In the 60s and 70s i used capos that were basically rubber bands ... they REALLY damaged the finish on the necks ... my 1971 D28 still bears the acars). And thank you for this video ... didn't know folks cared about capos.

Please do more of these type videos and call the new series of videos “Riff Busters” and dress up like this everytime. Love you guys
I have all kinds of capos - I find Shubb to be the best VFM. I like my Elliot the best, but they are expensive. I have a Paige for my 12-string. G7 was too bulky and got in the way of my left hand. D'addario capos are good, too, and don't break the bank, although they are a notch below Shubb. Kyser is an OK cheap model. Shubb has a new cradle capo that is pretty dang nice.

Oh man, i was actually about to buy G7th as i thought ART 3 will be great with tone and other issues, but this test really surprised me. So other ones i'm considering are a Shubb and D'addario NR PRO. I like the classic looks of the Shubb, but am afraid off the bulkiness of the back of it, that it might get in the way, especially when you put it close to a fret.
@texhaines9957 Жыл бұрын
What about guitar brand Capos? Taylor sells a cradle capo with a 15 radius that works well on their guitars. Martin has a clamp that works better than the D'Addario capos. And then there are Thalia capos with various radi and a grip and hard surface. They work well on a varying profile neck.

It depends somewhat on the guitar and at what fret you're placing it. I have two that a Kyser wouldn't even fit at the fifth fret. I have a Paige, Gth & a Kyser. I use them on different guitars and different positions.
@etyrnal11 ай бұрын
i'm going to disregard this entire test -- because they were CONFERING. They may have been blindfolded, but they are trying to REACH CONCENSUS... which is NOT a 'blind' rating. Also the strings are NOT vibrating on the materials of the capo, they are vibrating on the frett/tail nut. the WEIGHT of the capo can affect the sustain due to the weight of the capo dampening the neck vibrations

Paige had a good capo with the old design. Old design had the bail clip that caught the capo bar. new design has the gate hook side swivel that is oftentimes impossible to disengage. They ruined a good thing by "improving" it. Functionality---none.

I picked up a Taylor Cradle Capo on the whim, it works, it’s my first cradle, but I will say I never thought about cheap material stripping screw out, but hey we spend more on cost of strings over the life of one capo, and strings go in the garbage, I wish y’all would’ve put the $230 Paige capo pro in there

Use only Kyser capo's . There's one in every guitar case as I use it often on gigs , studio, practice, etc. No marks whatsoever on the necks of my guitars from these capo's. Have musician friends who use Kyser capos also. Haven't heard anyone complain about marks on guitar necks either. At times, yes , strings may bend out of tune. Readjust capo. Quickly readjust it. Not knocking these other brands . Just saying the Kysers work pretty well. Can't justify the cost of other brands that are slightly better. Thanks for the reviews you guys do ! 🎸🎸🎸

I think you guys didn't test functionality. The Elliot although sounds good is too fiddley when working on stage . Takes too much effort to put on and take off . Both hands are required. Also it will not slide up or down the fret board . Any capo with a tension screw adjustment can be made a perfect fit for a guitar neck

Geez - hard for us “just do it for fun” guitar players to justify $150+ dollars for a capo, but at the same time, I’m a sucker for quality design and craftsmanship. And I’ve been knocked by non-guitar players for owning a $1,500 acoustic as a beginner guitarist (I have a good ear and I can afford it is my excuse), so there’s that.

You are missing the point . All capos restrict hand movements ..especially fret one . The g7th skinny is the only one that has revolutionised my playing . No shubb Kayser Elliot etc comes even close to the slim unobtrusive skinny capo … I can’t sing it’s praises high enough . Tone does not matter if your hand cannot reach the notes …. I cannot emphasise this enough . Sorry guys . Ps I leave my capo on second fret and tune guitar to d standard … makes additional capos less prone to tuning issues ….. 😊 pps don’t knock rubber band pencil … like flamenco capos … it does. A Good job …stop ragging on the pencil. Pps the kyser was designed as quick change and that it is …functionally better than any on the market .,.. you need a better analysis guys …sorry …. Kyser…. Quick change then retune quickly … job done . All capos need retuning in my experience . Great channel , you play really well but engineers you ain’t. Get a grip guys ( capo joke )
