The amount of knowledge I got from the few words that were said are invaluable. I’m new to fishing and any bit of info helps but out of all the videos I’ve watched this is my first comment, so cheers and I look forward to more content, and also FOODIES FTW!!

Nice video! Those dishes looked great. I've probably heard negative things said about every fish or animal meat out there... 100% agree, it's all about how you care for the fish/meat and how you cook it. I personally like chinese style, steamed surf perch the best.

Thanks I appreciate it! I love Chinese style steamed fish as well. I prepared a corbina that way in one of my recent videos!

I'm glad I was able to conjure up some nice memories! As for myself, I kind of got into fishing later than I would have liked. I wish I could've gotten into it 25 years ago. Better late than never I guess!

Great tips! Thanks! I’ve caught a few perch but mostly been lucky I figure. This is some solid intel, and seeing the variety of ways to eat them is inspiring too!

you can dry age it for a few days in the fridge and let the moisture out, that firms up the meat quite well, I then just bake it without cover, tastes good

Very nice explanations of the rig you use. Can you explain the benefits of the 12# tippet and 1 oz sinker. I usually see and use 6-8# leader and 3/16 to 3/8 oz sliding bullet weights? I am always looking to improve is what drives me to ask. As you said, most of our casts are usually 50' or so. Thank You

The 12lb test and 1oz sinker is just my personal preference. As for the line, I haven’t experienced line shyness with surf fish that would require me to go lighter than this but a lot of people swear by it, especially with corbina. But again, I haven’t noticed that much of a difference. As for weight, I just like being able to throw it a little farther which is why I choose 1 oz. While many of the fish are very close to shore, some of the biggest fish I’ve caught were much further out and I like to have that option to catch both near and far. I believe the theory with lighter weights is that fish will be more likely to commit to a strike if there’s less resistance when they strike or inhale it. However, I’ve seen people with 1.5 oz pyramids on fish finder rigs kill it, and those were in mild wave conditions. In the end, I would just experiment and find what works for you. I think that’s part of the fun.

Hello sir, I just watched the video of the montage and thank you. I wanted to ask you the question because I have a cane of power 5 to 30 grams so very light. Can I take a 20-gram lead or do you advise me to stay on a 30-gram lead? Thanks
@thefishingfoodie

Hi there. You can throw a 20 gram lead weight if you prefer. There’s really not too much difference. Good luck!

There is no size limit on barred surf perch, there is a 10.5" minimum to the Redtail Surf perch. The same issue with babies applies, size limit violations.

I believe red tailed surf perch must be 10.5 inches to be legal.

That’s correct. Barred Surf Perch however, no size limits.
