You’ve helped me confirm my decision on going with the supernote. The folders and navigation abilities are a nonnegotiable for me. Thanks for this in depth comparison

I couldn’t wait for the Super-note to arrive. When it did, I was so disappointed. It’s screen is off white and it is just a dull, grey, awful appearance. Can’t see a thing on it without additional lighting. Couldn’t wait to return it. The absence of a back light makes it useless and potentially bad for one’s eyes. The Super Note reminds me of the original Kindle reader that came out 8 years ago, because we had to use a flashlight with that too. Only difference then and now is that the Kindle is a gorgeous well made device. The Super Note is not. I have now had the Kindle Scribe for two months. I love it. It is an awesome piece of kit and gets better with each update. Totally loving it as it makes me want to write write write AND read read read. Your comparability presentation is spot on. Thanks. And well done Amazon. You’re simply the best.

The Kindle scribe doesn't have a backlight either. It has a front light. The front light is meant to recreate basically what happens when a ceiling light shines on the screen. A backlight is bad for your eyes.

The new A6x2 nomad is out, no eraser-button and no front-light still unfortunately, the overall performance seems improved...would like to see your new review video when you hands on the new nomad
@stanleywang7367 Жыл бұрын
it's called front lighting because the lights are above the screen, hidden under the front bezel. Backlighting is when the light is behind the screen and what you're seeing is the light shining directly into your eyes.

What was your choice?

@@haroldgaming7 I went with the Kindle Scribe and am really happy I did. They’ve made several improvements to the software that addressed essentially all of the initial issues people had with the device. It’s a pleasure to read PDFs on the Scribe and since it’s really just a large Kindle with note taking capabilities, there’s no risk of getting distracted by other things. I also really like the folio cover for the Scribe, which props up the Scribe on a desk, protects it while travelling, and is designed to be easy to take the Scribe out when you’re reading. Having said all that, I’m sure the Supernote or the various other larger eReaders would all also be great.

In another video you had a template that you used for linking to books. It was like the spine of several books stacked up. You said you got it in Reddit substack. Can you provide a link?

Superb comparison! I just hopped on over from your 2 year retrospective video. I'm a University student, so I feel like for my studies and journal/other personal use, the Supernote would be perfect. I do have a question though: What is the battery life like on these devices? It's a major sticking point for me.

I just learned about epubs from your video. Can you tell me how to bring kindle books into supernote so I can annotate like this video.
@CTilling Жыл бұрын
I download the kindle books on an older version of kindle, then strip DRM with freeware software. I'll check the name later when I am at my PC. I then convert in Calibre. If this doesn't doesn't work o download via "send to device" and use the device key on that freeware software. Ah, it's called "Any eBook converter"

Just came here after your 2-year long term review. Thanks for the practical comparison as our uses for the device would be quite similar. Just wanted to ask why you didn't go for the Boox Note Air 2 as this would provide the front light and newer hardware you listed as a negative for A5X?
@CTilling Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I felt the Boox Note Air was too close to my iPad, which does most everything but better. So I was after something more minimalist. And I wanted something bigger, so I got the Boox Max Lumi as well for certain pdfs (this was before SN had actioned the half-page view). But I think the Note Air is a very good option for many. The front light in summer is, for me, not a problem at all either. I prefer the natural feel of the SN in many ways. What did you get?
@evior5215 Жыл бұрын
for the scribe when you make a sticky note is what you show in the video all the space you get or can you somehow make it more pages/bigger? for example suppose you would be doing a physics problem from a book where you need more space than just that small box..

The Kindle’s Home Screen ads are unacceptable… There’s no way to remove the ads. You have to just “not click home” or not restart your device to avoid the ads.
@1dash1337 ай бұрын
Have you tried calling or chatting with Amazon's Customer Service? According to Reddit sources, you can simply ask them to remove the ads (at no charge) and they will do it. Sometimes, you need to call more than one time - because some agents are stricter than others - but you'll eventually find one that is accommodating.
@liketheduck7 ай бұрын
@@1dash133 they’ve built them into the OS. They can’t/won’t remove them. The Lock Screen ads are different.

I thought the Supernote has the (ability to install the) Kindle app. Why do you need to convert them into epub's?
@CTilling Жыл бұрын
You are right, SN does have the Kindle app. You cannot, however, write over them and annotate them in the way I showed in the video. You are restricted to the usual Kindle options.

Hi, great review. As you are an academic, have you tried to read papers or articles (for example Aeon's articles) on the Kindle Scribe? If so, do you consider it to be a good experience?

Yeah, not the best experience to be honest. We need crop and contrast options to help the Scribe, so the Supernote is way better in this regard
