Homesteading with all that special, expensive equipment is a luxury that few real homesteaders can afford. It's like saying me and my family are going to rough it in the wilderness for two weeks, in a 48 foot RV with TV, running water, gas stove and oven, refrigerator, baseboard heat, and air conditioning. Also a good smattering of kitchen appliances. I envy your style of homesteading. Still love your videos. Keep them coming.

It's awesome Cody how you include your son in your homesteading chores and projects there's no closer bonding between a son and his father than this. My father passed away when I was 11 months old....and it's a loss that I've always felt throughout my life. I now have two sons of my own who don't necessarily find interest in spending that kind of time with me and it makes me sad but it makes me happy to see the bonding that happens between a father and his son like you and your son

This has been a very pleasant video, it brings back many fond memories of my younger days of woodcutting, climbing trees, tying off limbs, felling trees. That was then, I'm 69 years old now and spend a lot of time on my computer, watching and wishing I was back in the day. Thank's for sharing a great video, I enjoyed it.

I really can't believe some of these comments you get. Man... they are just insanely mad your living the dream. God Bless... and enjoy the sun...

Watching this video, I was overcome with gratitude to you! I really feel the effort you put into making these videos, and your channel is an incredible resource for education here on KZbin. I am continuously inspired by your videos, the work you do on the homestead, your knowledge and wisdom.. I get such a good feeling from watching your videos! I live in a small town in Wales, my situation and reality is very different to yours, but you are one of my most watched channels. I have so much respect for the hours of incredible content you produce, and it has taught me so much! I must mention your back to basics series as a real highlight, so simple and beautiful and honest. Much love, massive respect and gratitude! ❤️

I live in a cold Canadian climate and heat only with wood. My 30 (face) chord log pile is waiting to be bucked, split and stacked. This job usually takes me about 3 full days. Hi Cody, the firewood processor is nice, but that log grappler is awesome. You can tell that you are getting real comfortable with it now. It is amazing what delicate maneuvers you can do with such a powerful piece of equipment.
@digbyodell29247 жыл бұрын
It works pretty good but I've seen pallet or three tine style attachments that work better because the logs are balanced better and they set down real easy on the deck just by lowering the attachment past the deck supports.

How is the garden going? Is it large enough for annual/daily supplies, reducing supermarket runs to a bare minimum?Last year you nearly lost Mrs W to a rough pull down of the lower shed doors, how is that going? Is the shed functional as you hoped for? What of the snow ladened roof collapse? Will that be first off the list, even a temp repair?

Watching this reminds me of my youth, well, teenage years, when we got a fire place, it became my job to cut, split, and pile the wood. 6 bush cords a year (18 face cords for those who prefer that measure), lord it took a long time, physical exertion, and general misery. What I wouldn't have given for this machine back then!

Man, that is the way to cut firewood, especially if you are a one man operation. I can see that piece of equipment becoming an essential part of the homestead since you depend on wood to heat your home in the winter.
@digbyodell29247 жыл бұрын
Well it certainly increases the efficiency of one man but I wouldn't say it's optimal for a one man operation because he has to stop the processing when the log deck is clear and reload it, and the wood pile is not being moved or stacked. For a processor like that, those things should be concurrent.
@albinez12447 жыл бұрын
Hey Cody, I like the recent budget woodworking kit, but I was wondering if you could do something for working on cars (like your older video). I figure with advancement in tools, and your new experience it would be worth redoing. Something to show us the tools we would need, and good quality tools to use. That would be very helpful for people trying to save money by doing their own work. I would also reach everybody since we all use cars. Just a thought, and keep up the work.

What a huge workhorse that Yanmar is with the grappler implement! The sawmill is a homesteaders dream tool. Those 2 together with you is like having 6 ranch hands working all day for 3 days to cut & split that much wood. About $70,000 for both retail I'd guess.
